Most over-rated production knife brand?

I am not able to disprove his statement, and I had read some comments with similar satements. There is no proof though, so who knows except Jim....his videos are suspiciousy positive though, and the point about his Sigil review are suspicious. No one who usually shows blade centering simply forgets to show it in a review, I just don't see that happening with a $1k+ knife

Do you have proof either way? I aam interested to know if he is legit or not from your opinion

I don't have proof either way. The Fact that about 90% of his video reviews are about custom knives from small business or part time makers makes me wonder though; whom is supposed to be paying him off? In the end, I don't care much one way or the other, I like his channel, because he shows some really nice knives that I cant afford, but I have no personal investment in it.

My whole point though, was if someone is going to defame another's character, I'm gonna need something more than just hearsay if I'm gonna believe it. No matter how many times I read or hear it.

Just because more than one person repeats a rumor, that does not make it true either.

Same is true of stabman's lizard heritage. Somebody said it on the internet, I can't disprove it, so its true.

Much like the claims I've been reading about framelock lockbars lately. I have never seen any evidence of them being bendable by small children like paperclips, but until I get one and give it to a child and show they CAN'T, you gotta assume that they CAN be bent by small children like paperclips

This was my point exactly. You sir, are obviously highly intelligent, and good looking. :D

Small children are extremely dangerous. As a small child I laid waste to anything in my path. Only when I got older and the stuff was mine did the destruction begin to abate.

I am not able to disprove a lot of things that people tend to think are true for their own misguided reasons, but that does not mean that they are in any way right...

I would tend to believe that Jim has reason to give better reviews on some of the knives he shows because he knows several of the makers that he reviews now, and generally one of two things is likely to occur:
1. He has collected a LOT of knives, and he knows what he will or will not like by now, and so most if not all of the knives he gets now are going to be something he likes (which honestly just makes sense when you collect more expensive knives).
2. He has his knives often made for him by people he is aquainted with, so there is a good chance that more effort goes into making his knives what he wants them to be, since the maker knows more what Jim likes than they would a normal customer. Again, pretty normal for this type of thing, frankly.

And also, Jim had the Sigil for a qhile, before he sold it and bought a more ornate version of the same knife, which he still has on him frequently. I fail to see how that suddenly means he faked the review.

AND Jim mentioned in the review that Tony failed to put loctite on the first batch of Sigils that came out of that show. I don't remember if it was mentioned in the first Sigil video, but it certainly was mentioned in the second one on his more ornate model if not.

I am not saying that Jim is perfectly free from guilt here, but I am saying that in this particular instance, there is nothing that leads me to believe that he is being deceitful, or that he took some form of bribe for a better review, and simply believing it to be true because enough people tell you is a terrible mentality.
Next, you're probably going to start telling me how the world is only 5,000 years old, and people used to live with dinosaurs, or how the bones were put in the ground either magically or by some government conspiracy...the internet is not always a good place to learn my friend...

Crusade much for Emerson? Let it go some people don't like them for various reasons.

Are you going to interrogate every person ? Get real.
Have you owned one?

What have I ever done to you? Why are you so hostile toward me for the last couple of days?

Damn, are we gonna have to call for the dog bouncers?

Sorry.. I have been rather crabby.

It's not personal and I don't have anything against you, I get you're an Emerson fan and that's cool but generally fans of a brand who constantly defend "their" brand rub me the wrong way.

Everyone is entitled to their opinions and going after "nay sayers" is silly to me.

You make a good point, without proof it is't known. Unfortunately he probably wouldnt say, but idk

I don't follow Jim personally, so I don't know much about him. His videos are quite informative though, in terms of displaying the knife. He ever points out the flaws though (from what I've watched).

Now, I know the world is more than 5,000 years od. However...jet fuel can't melt steel beams ;)

It's cool, no hard feelings. I generally try not to take the bait, and yes everyone is entitled to an opinion. I was only asking what his opinion was based on.

I believe this was the first time in this thread that I outright defended Emerson. I think. Maybe. Not sure though.

BTW, I'll admit I drank the Emerson Kool-Aid, but I like lots of other knives as well. :D

Why?
Because of the Omega springs that only seem to break on the internet?

It works, it's strong, and plenty and folks like it.
Plus, they do offer knives with other locks.
Lmao, the GEC guys are like the CRK guys, they'd kick you in the privates for saying something bad about their brand.

I have no dog in that fight about other brands though. GEC knives have a cool old timey feel to them which I'm starting to appreciate.

"I vote GEC.
It's just a rehash of knives made years ago with a manipulatively restrictive delivery channel that encourages flippers to cyber squat on the site, soak up as many knives as they can and then I quote "Catch & Release" them at twice the price and thrice the value.*
That should stir folks up."

"I'm having difficulty with the quote function"

I have to agree with this assessment, though it won't go over real well on the traditional forum.

I got a couple GEC's recently, sent one right back. The one I kept is a good knike all in all. Still, (apples to apples), my Boker 2004stc at about 20 bucks less is twice the knife of their #73.

I make & sell culinary for the most part and the most overrated brand I come into contact with on a regular basis is Cutco.

Crappy little handle design, 440A steel, Hollow ground when they would last much longer if a FFG, Was too many serrated knives in their lineup, and there are plenty of other brands that are a better buy than them.

There, I trashed an over rated brand. Happy? ;)
