Most over-rated production knife brand?

To be overrated you have to be ratted. quartermaster is such trash they don't even show up on the radar

I was thinking this as well. Quartermaster is so thoroughly buried on my poo-list (keeping it family friendly) that it never occurred to me to list them as overrated.

Opinel and Emerson.

I would be interested to understand why you believe an Opinel (with an average street price ~$12 - assuming we are talking folding knives, and using the No8 as example) is one of your two most overrated knives? It is my guess that most folks think No7 or No8 when they hear the mfr. Opinel.

If it's because it's from France, enough said ...

Otherwise, this manufacturer has been making/designing knives for over 100 years in production that are what they are and has been for over a century. I find very few companies that can say this, additionally with 15 million knives sold annually. If for no other reason, how many average folks can afford to buy AND use/abuse something that Pablo Picasso is reported to have also selected as a tool of his trade?

Wow.....replace Strider with Winkler and you have named my five favorite knife brands! Not in order though...To each his own I guess.

Common sense and a sense of humor are the same thing, moving at different speeds. A sense of humor is just common sense, dancing.

That
was called humor.

I got a chuckle out of it and it elicited an involuntary nod.
Not the kind of nod that so many post elicit but the kind of nod signaling agreement.

I enjoy this forum for its technical aspects . . .
but brother there could be juuuuuuuuust a touch more humor.

Laytax if you're out there and you are reading this we need you !
This forum needs you !
ahhhhhhhh the good Ol'days.

Oh and that's a hard question I'm still mulling
It's premature but I'm between Buck and Boker but I like both and they are both inexpensive so it's not really true or fair but I don't like many of their knives when I actually go to cut stuff but they make some very fine products as well.

I wouldnt say im disagreeing about GEC but they are nice, higher end knives. I figured some input and grievances from a traditional fan who doesn't have the dough to buy hundreds of knives would help the argument. They aren't something I buy a lot, in fact I only have one. Only when I have a favorite style that they come up with in a great handle material do I buy. I think at the most I'll own three of them, because there's only three I can justify purchasing and needing. The folks who buy them up by the dozen each year are why I agree they are overrated.
Case has really been hit or miss for years, they're overrated overall because you can only know you're getting a good one if you inspect it yourself.

Easy. Mora Sweden, hands-down. Poor materials, horrendous ergonomics, terrible cutting ability, way too expensive for what it is.

Spydercos!!

Just kidding, they are only overpriced and overrated because i cant afford the one i want.

To me alot of the blades you guys love are overrated to me,i could just never justify 300 plus for any knife. Regardless of who made it and what materials were used.

I bought one and it came with a complete lack of edge the grinds didn't even meet. So I put one on it but the steel was soo soft it was ridiculous. And I found the lock to have a ton of up and down play. It's definetly overhyped but might not be terribly overpriced. I think you get what you pay for with that one

I'm just waiting for assisted open and/or flippers to go away.;):D Except for the Spyderco Mantra...that one has my blessing!:p

Well kiddo, get a better job that can afford you better things! Or don't and buy the many inexpensive options to this hobby. The only way to do this hobby wrong is with ignorance....

I don't think any knife brand is over rated.. Just some brands I don't think are as good as some people think they are..

Switchblade combs are WAY over-rated.

It's a validation of this knife community that this thread has stayed open for 14 pages.:o
