Most Overrated Folder

Hold on. Hold on.

Jim, you said you tried to buy a Hinderer at manufacturer cost as a veteran and Rick turned you down. John, you said Rick will sell a knife to Jim as a veteran at manufacturer cost. Obviously both statements can't be true. Which is it?

You want overrated? I guess I'll be one of the several other people who votes for Emerson.

I believe they are way overpriced for what you get and most definitely overrated. Frankly there are other knife brands that give you a much better product for half the cost of an Emerson.

Regardless, I am still somewhat of a fan of them. I absolutely love ALL of Mr. Emerson's designs, and have owned quite a few through out my lifetime of knife collecting.

Actually it was twice, the 1st time was awhile ago, the 2nd time I spoke with Rick directly not long ago through other means and got the same answer.

Hmmmm. Seems to me the question of whether Rick will sell directly to vererans is one that should be asked in the Hinderer forum. I've got no skin in the game, so I'll ask and we'll see what kind of response I get. I'll post the results here.

EDIT: Never mind. The answer is posted right here:

Jim, you are right. John, you are wrong. Veterans are not qualified to buy direct from Hinderer. Issue settled.

How many active military and LEOs are there? few million? How many Hinderers are made a year? Less then a thousand would be my guess. Of course you wont find many of them knowing about or carrying hinderer.

Don't get me wrong it's a smart marketing strategy...... To sell knives at the inflated prices they sell for.....

How often are they stocked at dealers? I never see them any where in stock. To say that they do all this to sell them at inflated prices is silly. Please tell me how does Hinderer benefit from secondary market value?

You will get Active Duty only as a response, that's the answer I got twice.

He really doesn't benefit from it at all, that's from him directly.

The point is that if they would sell the knives to some people who really do want them for other than flipping them for twice the profit as in Veterans it might be better....

I believe it is only active duty. What would the point being in selling to people that are longer on the front lines?

Of course it would be nice if he did, but assuming he is sticking to his reason why he only sells to active duty/LEO EMS. He says since they are in that type of environment, they need a tool that will always function properly and hold up.

He sells more then knives doesn't he? Fact is we have no idea how many he sells. But they are never in stock at any dealer period.

That's because they are sold (Spoken for) before they even get them in.

If he doesn't benefit, then why would he want to hike up the price? Doesn't make much sense.

The only thing I know is, even if they were sold to the public, the price on the secondary market would be the same, since he cannot meet demand. Supply Vs. Demand

He isn't hiking up the price, the dealers and flippers are...

If you say so. I have never seen a preorder option all the times I have shopped.

Dealers and flippers do the mark up, I know that. But you said its "smart marketing" for him to do that. So if he isn't making anything on it, seems like dumb marketing. Or its not a marketing strategy.

You have to email the dealers directly to see if they have room on their lists.
