Most Overrated Folder

For me the most overrated is the Sebenza. I was so happy when I got one, and quickly lost interest due to poor F&F. The knife does not get very sharp, and it is just not that comfortable to hold on to. I would never buy another.

Hmmm. . . I can't tell if this is a sarcastic comment or not.

While I am not a big fan of the Sebenza, I do really like the Umnumzaan and have two of them.

Not too sure what you mean about poor F&F on a CRK because as production knives go they have the best F&F and are the standard by which all others are judged.

Doesn't get sharp?

I am confused there...

Just because one might not the looks of a knife or feel that it is overpriced does not mean that it is overrated. It is overrated if it doesn't measure up to the manufacturers claims or user's reviews (ratings). The most overrated folders in my opinion are Emersons and Cold Steel.

Both of these companies are kept alive by fangirls, although this is more true in EKI's case. Cold Steel is largely focused on the non-knife nut market. To the uninitiated, a reasonable quality knife, like the Cold Steel Lawman, is Excalibur.

Emerson is different, though. They are the Glock of knife manufacturers. They made some good designs, but became so convinced of their perfection that they have become stagnant.

I was thinking the same thing. I was about to post in disagreement with him, but stopped myself because I had a feeling it must be naked sarcasm so plainly delivered that I just wasn't getting the joke.

Yep, and I'll never understand why people do this.
Even when they don't insult a person by saying things like "I'm simply not dumb enough to buy it", they are still insulting them in a way(IMO) by saying bad things about knives that they know alot of people here love.

I also don't see why the OP named the thread "most overrated", when the one he mentioned never even gets talked about, and is far from overrated:confused:

I think he knew what this would start, and just wanted to get a heated thread going.
His thread title should have been "Haters come on out":p

Question for you: why do you spend time reading and responding to "haters"? People are simply stating their opinions, and not threatening anyone.

I usually try and figure out what those said opinions are based off of to see were they people are coming from to begin with..

No sarcasm! Shortly after I got it the clip loosened up, and now rocks back and forth. Others tell me that the clips are so tight on their knives that even after they take the screw out they can't remove the clip. That is not the case with mine. I also hear people talk about how smoothly they open, and again that is not the case with mine. My Mcusta, Spyderco ZT, Hinderer and Hogue folders all open much more smoothly. I can get a much better edge on my VG10, 1095, 154CM and CV20 blades than I can on the S30V of the Sebenza. With the options I have for EDC the Sebenza is the last resort.

I would have sent the knife to CRK to have it looked at....

What are you using to sharpen with?

I wanted to say what I did, but didn't see a reason to knock knives I don't like.
Why spend time reading it ? I'm bored, and its kinda like when I slow down for a car crash:p
I never said anyone was "threatening" anyone.

Moose--It sounds like you got a real junky lemon. It doesn't have much market value so just PM me and I will get you my address so you can shed yourself of this space-waster. To be fair, I will pay the postage!

I seem to remember a lot better days with SOG, when quality was much higher, same as with Cold Steel.

I'd have to say the PM2 is easily the most overrated knife on this forum, in my opinion. Underwhelming knife with an over-sized handle that makes it bigger in the pocket than it needs to be (it's a big in the pocket as Benchmade 710, a knife with a half inch more blade). Still have no idea why so many folks love this knife.

Because people who really have to cut things often do so while having to wear gloves. With an average size male hand wearing work gloves, the PM2 handle is about the minimum size for really comfortable and dexterous use.

There are people who go through life mocking other people for wasting their money on "over-priced toys" like Porsches, Rolexes, and Sebenzas.

I go though life enjoying whatever "over-priced toy" I can afford and appreciate.

I think the Lionsteel folders are a tad overrated as with the HEST folders. The ones I had seemed to have lock up problems and the roto lock on the HEST never worked right.

Case knives also have gone down hill, the newer ones seem so flimsy and the quality is not there like the older ones.

Don't worry Ken, spring break is almost over.
