Most Overrated Folder

This entire thread can be summed up as

"Other people like things that I don't!"

You said it! And God forbid go against the cult following.
I dare you to find something negative about the beloved BK2...the will be knocking at you door with pitchforks and torches!!! LoL!

I dare. I think Beckers are ugly as hell and I have desire to own one. I won't deny they're a good value and extremely good at what they're intended for. But I hate they way they feel in hand and my interests lie else where.

Bring on the pitchforks and torches.

This is funny. People here's an idea dont get butthurt because a certain knife you like someone else thinks is overrated. Honestly if you like a knife who the hell cares if someone else doesn't. I would take a strider over a sebenza all day every day. Do I care people here bash strider no. Do I think sebenza's suck no. Its all just someones opion that they are entitled to. We all have our own opionions that we voice or we wouldn't be on a forum. Of course if the person is just trolling burn the mf'er lol.

Because people who really have to cut things often do so while having to wear gloves. With an average size male hand wearing work gloves, the PM2 handle is about the minimum size for really comfortable and dexterous use.

Except that the 710 has the same size handle and a half inch more blade (I saw your bold face and raised you italics) to work with. ;)

I get that big handles can be comfy; I don't get why a little knife would have a big knife's handle. If I have to fit a big knife's handle in my pocket, I might as well actually have a big knife.

Everyone likes different stuff, it's all good :)

Yes, I own one, but it's not going to cure the masses like some on this forum would make you think.

The Strider SNG. It is a nice knife, but ugly as sin. I genuinely do not believe a knife has ever looked that bad in the past. It looks like it could have been a Mantis design.

Any knife that people say is "perfect". there is no perfect knife, so that is over rating them. I Most often hear that about pm2's, sebenzas and xm-18's. I have two of three, and while they are not perfect, they are beautiful and very well made knives. I try not to expect too much from them, I usually do, but I don't expect perfection. If I bought a Rockstead I might expect perfection.

More like can't afford, won't afford as the higher end stuff is always a target and likely always will be.

We always see things like this (enter cheap knife here) will do anything that (enter expensive knife here) will do..... And that's usually utter complete BS 99% of the time...

Comments like just as good are key statements followed by complete BS after....

I will say it again, the sweet spot is the $125 - $225 range.

It really comes down to real use and needs because if the knives aren't really used it doesn't matter what knife it is as they are all the exact same if they are just play toys or pocket ornaments.

Can afford, and have purchased many higher end offerings. I can safely say I prefer my Buck Vantage Pro S30v for actual use. Is the Sebenza a good knife, yes but it definitely is not a great knife. Is it worth the $480 I paid for one? Yes. But my opinion of it being worth it sure as heck isn't based on function.

For me, a tool is first and foremost a tool.
Same reason I let go of my Southard. Manix 2 outperforms it due to the geometry.
I have no use for a knife which can't do it's task well, specially at the $260 range. 4mm blade stock, mixed with an aggressive hollow ground? Sorry but that spells cutting deficiency and confusion.

I can understand a folder like a ZT 560 being very thick, and chunky. It's meant to be a hard use knife and on my testing it is just that. A hard use knife.

I think all the hype ruins it for some people. They expect a knife to be "perfect" and are disappointed when it has slightly uneven grind, dulls quicker than expected, or F & F might be less than expected.
I think that is why we become picky!

I'm not a fan of the XM either, but I see no reason to infer people may be dumb for paying aftermarket price for one.
Actually you inferred that. I was talking about me. And if you look carefully at what I post, I think you'll find that's usually who I'm talking about . . . or at least I try to.

I really hate the folders with one scale-the other side is bare metal-looks like it's missing something.

I try to not take into account other peoples feelings about a knife when I purchase it. I might hear a lot of good things about a certain knife, but I decide for myself before I buy it.

No knife is perfect, and I have yet to own a knife I did not like. They are all designed different, with different purposes and intentions in mind. I try to appreciate the good qualities in the knives I own. If I cannot, I sell it.

If you do not let other people sway your judgement before you purchase something, it cannot be over hyped

This^^^^. I'm simply not dumb enough to pay twice as much for a knife as the manufacturer says its worth, especially when I know what else is out there for that kind of money.

Yes, I saw the "I'm".
When you say "I'm simply not dumb enough", it kinda makes it sound like you think people that do are, though you may not really mean it that way.

Yep, thats about it:thumbup:

I like Spyderco but their knives get more love than deserved, IMO.

For instance, the Native is a nice knife and very popular for EDC but IMO the Buck Vantage gets almost no attention outside of Buck fans. The knives are in the same price range but the Vantage seems like the better knife where as the Native seems sort of cheaply built (though has good steel).

PM2 is almost impossible to get but when I held one in hand I was fairly unimpressed relative to the attention the knife gets. Good knife, no doubt, but I don't understand the demand for it.

I like ZTs, but they are very clunky knives for EDC. Kershaw gets the most rep for being a budget quality knife maker but, IMO, they are only one of several companies that make good knives on the low end price range.

I really don't understand the status symbol brands either.

Overrated is a state of mind! I have found after much trial and error that I could survive with just a RAT1 for a long time. Doesnt stop me from opening my wallet and buying new toys lol.

Same reason why I carry a Military more than any other knife, and that's an S30V plain jane black G10 uncoated blade Military. ;)

Not exactly an expensive knife either, in the $140 range, but in the sweet spot price wise.
