Most versatile/well-rounded knife you have

Gonna go with my large micarta Inkosi. Utility wise I’d say insingo blade shape but for all around I’ll say drop point.

It is nice to see that I am not the only person that list more than one knife.

The three folders that I reach for the most are:

1. full size Griptilian

2. SAK (Spartan or Cadet)

3. US made Kershaw Zing

I like the Zing but, I have to admit, the Griptilian and Cadet is a wonderful combo.

I don't use my folders for food prep. However, if we are looking at jack of all trades knives, it would be, off the top of my head, Spyderco Manix 2, Southard, Domino, SG Spider Monkey, ZT 0095blk S90V, WE Deacon.

Which get carried the most? Lately, the 0095 and Southard.

However, for my uses, I find a wharncliffe or modified one to be most useful.

This is probably my most versatile knife. The ZT 0562CF. When I was thinning the herd awhile back I sold my Hinderer Slicer and kept this one. My LG. Sebenza would be a close second.

My immediate thought was to say the large Sebenza that I've had since March of 2002. Last month I was reading a thread here on BF that was talking about the Spyderco Police 4 Lightweight with a K390 blade.

I was curious to see how well it performed, how difficult it was to sharpen, and would I have any issues with corrosion as some have reported.

So far it's been quite nice. I do like larger folders. This thing is really slicey, great edge retention, not terribly difficult to sharpen. With the typical thin Spyderco blade, it doesn't completely suck for use in the kitchen.

That might be the least versatile knife posted in the thread. Although it looks to be superb for its intended purpose.

As a professional chef I can tell you it is by far the most versatile cutter I’ve ever had. It just edges out my Wusthof 10” Chef’s knives.

I go always back to this one. Can't exactly explain it but it's the knife I want with me, in my pocket, everyday.

I know this is not really the place (what, me? Concerned about derailing?), but as a partial Scot myself, I need to know more about anything Sgian Dubh-shaped.

Edit: found it.

Go to Paul Baleta Knives, he does beautiful Sgian Dubhs. Here is my other favourite, very graciously designed especially for me :

Yep, I found 'em, which is a new experience for me. Usually, things I like are long discontinued.

This falls into the other category: things I like are way more than I am comfortable paying!

But that's not your issue! Thanks for the heads-up!

You being a chef, I could see that. I think a shorter knife is better in the kitchen, anyway.

I like this one. I've used it on fish, turkey, lots of kitchen work, cardboard, paper, zip ties, string, rope, plastic, bread, pizza, invisible zombies (the worst kind), pretty much anything that needs cutting.

A Spyderco Gen 1 Gin-1 (or 2 because it's unmarked) PE Endura Clip-it. The one pictured is not mine but looks the same.

The only thing that distinguishes it from a Gen 4 (other than the name embrossed on the show side scale) is the molded plastic clip (still intact on mine) on the other side. It's he only true "user" in my collection.

I bought it for over 30 years and it still works fine. The best "versatile/well-rounded knife" that I own. :)
