My BK9 Fighter...in progress... UPDATE Pg. 4 & 5

Great googily moogily - that's some great work. How is it that you removed a fair bit of metal, yet the blade looks like it has more mass now? It's like a magic trick! :D

I wasn't sure if I was going to like it or not in the beginning, but now that's it's all done...

IT'S A BADDDD BOYYYY!! It's like like a bad ass!

Yeah, I actually do know what you mean. The balance stayed about the same also...the point of balance is right between the B and the K on the BK9 marking on the right side of the blade. I actually tested it out as a chopper today and I have to say the performance hasn't been affected too much. But it is a little lighter in the hand, and very nimble. I have a feeling that this will be a user for many years to come...but I will likely keep a spare BK9 on hand in case I need to replicate it (if it were to get lost or something).

But overall I am very happy with it. It took all the things from the Ka-Bar fighter I carried in the Marines that I liked and is an improvement on the things I didn't care for.

I appreciate all the good feedback....it was a really fun project and will likely not be my last. If there are any other questions just ask, I'm around. Guess I need to work on my Beckerhead status now :p

That is amazing. I don't think there are any flaws on that beauty, you did an excellent job!

Well, looks like a sheath is in the works for the bk9 from MyWifeThinksImCrazy. I'm pretty excited, it will be the icing on the cake.

That is one Bad Boy of a Bowie, I hope you will favor these pages with more of your work. Your level of craftsmanship is superb!

Holy moly! fantastic work my friend. When are you going to start selling these things? Where did you happen to find the stainless hardware? I've got a BK2 project in the works and I'd love to replace the black hardware with the stainless. I tried the local home improvement stores with no luck. Do you happen to know the size and maybe an internet resource?

Disregard. I found a thread where you detail what I'm looking for. http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/864879-Hardware-Info?highlight=stainless

Thanks for the compliments! I will try and have some new projects in the near future. I've got a BK2 that I have stripped, blasted, covexed, and given a patina...but I keep thinking that more could be done. I do know that I am going to do a BK7 in the same manner as this 9. So that should be soon.

Here is a picture I just took. It shows the deeper blue that I tried out:

Here is a picture of the BK9 scales on a factory sized BK2. It shows what metal I removed from the BK9:

The metal on the pommel that was removed was planned. The difference through the width of the knife under the scales was just a side effect of matching the scales width to the knife.

Man that turned out really nice. I'm gonna have to get a second 9 so you can do that for me.

DP, you REALLY got something there. IMHO, THAT is the knife the USMC should be issuing thier soldiers. That is WAY stronger that the current issue. Stunning work. As a former soldier who broke knives, i would be proud to carry that, & actually would trust my life to it. I gave my BK9 a friggin pounding this past week. I got it stuck in some hardwood 2x & even beat/batoned on the handle a bit, with no issues, just character marks. I'm just sayin.

Thanks man, I still have my Kabar USMC that I carried while in the Corps. I never had an issue with it, but I always wanted it to be a little beefier. The USMC fighter design will never get old and it is what I mimicked, as you can probably tell. I was always hesitant to do anything TOO crazy with it and wanted this one to address those weaknesses but maintain all the strengths.

Not in the Marines anymore, but it will still get plenty of use.

I'd say, you hit it out of the park, in that respect ! Great job !!!
