My Buck 112lw (420hc) just out cut my Spyderco Delica 4 (VG10) - Is this a fluke?

Same, I even have the double stuff 2 with the CBN plated side.

If that's breaking the bank, a guy can buy a Norton SiC Crystalon pocket stone for $6 plus shipping.

Prior preparation prevents piss poor performance. :D

Shawn,

Got the Double Stuff Plus for my gear bag.

Looks like the perfect tool to me for that.

Jim

Yeah that's what I got, the one with the CBN side. :D

Replaced the standard ceramics I had in there before.

My favorite sharpening was on a cinderblock. Seriously. Using diamond plates, waterstones, and strops is just an exercise in boredom. Systems that set angles or power the sharpening action even moreso. Feels like a morning commute. Yay, I can get to work on time, just like millions of others. There's so many polished edges and split hairs that it's gotten to be as impressive as not falling down stairs.

I sharpened once on the sidewalk. :D

If I was in a cabin in the woods why wouldn't I have the proper tools with me?

They are part of the standard things that I would take.

The knife that I would have on me would also have a sharpening stone... This is the knife I would have with me, it's part of my gear.

Now this is interesting. Fantastic Randal BTW. I really expected to see some crazy super steel outdoor knife. Is there a reason behind the old school 01 or is it mostly due to the Randal/design? What a cool knife!

It's stainless, 440B/C...

It's because of what it is, the model's history and how well it works and what it was originally designed for. I would say it's likely the best outdoors knife made. Randall Model #14 Attack.

Not to mention it works great.

Sounds like an upcoming Forged In Fire episode.

Trapped in a cabin in the woods you must make a knife out of an old car bumper and fashion a handle out of half a potato. In part two you must sharpen the knife on one of the following items. A live wolverine; any plate cup or spoon you can find in the cupboard; or some sharpening stones you've packed in.

What will you chose? Then one guy in the cutting deeper segment "I forgot to pack the stones"!

As a polisher, I don't think it's the design or the alloy. I think "refinement" makes any knife more useable. Having said that, I am notoriously cheap. I find a folder I can afford, and then take it home and polish it.

This has to be the best comment in the entire thread. Well done! LOL

If you cannot imagine a single scenario in which this could occur then you have a tremendous lack of imagination.
Which is sad IMO.

I am a realist...

Plus I am always prepared. ;)

If I am actually going someplace I will have my gear with me...

I don't fly, I drive....

If you're saying that you never go anywhere that you cannot bring a knife, then I have to pull the BS lever.

Alrighty then... So Jim, what you're saying is all 420HC is basically the same then?

:D

Yeah, there isn't anything wrong with it.

It works fine.

Saw guys I was in the Military with using Buck 119's etc and they seemed to work fine in the field.

Totally pitching this to Forged in Fire for a spin off. Knife or Death is pretty OK but this could be gold. Think Alone but where to top it off the bladesmith has to construct their knife with stuff they find where got dropped off.

Also got this. Alton Brown hosts like Cutthroat Kitchen but this is called Fool with the Farrier. 10K on the table and you can sabotage your competitors; one guy has to forge on a trampoline, another can only use his feet. another has all his 420HC stock replaced with pop cans.
