My First Historical Khukuri-Long leaf Victorian

Got my new GAK in from AC. Looks similar to the last one but in better condition. It has a shorter handle and is shree 3 chandra like the rest and I believe battalion is shree jung (श्री जंग).
From Khukuri Lipi:
"The Shree Jung unit apparently specialised in Prime minister & Durbar Palace security in Kathmandu"
Khul!!!
Pics tomorrow or very soon!

still have to clean em up

Any more pictures all along the way please. From the picture that looks like it has the potential to clean up rather nicely. Looks very nice.

I've yet to push the button and get one for myself. I plan too. I just bought another 22 rifle I been wanting, guess it's kind of a one want at a time thing.

The handle appears turned down slightly more than the one from IMA but side by side the drop is about the same. May have been some characters filed off like my IMA Khuk. Will examine it closer later.

Dave9 Looks like we got ours about the same time and they look very similar in shape. Ill try to translate yours shortly. If you can get a pic after cleaning maybe without the flash it may be easier to decipher. Looks like yours is very good condition! Mine also is better condition than the one I got from IMA and is almost sharp. Your regimental looks considerably smaller. Let us know what you think when you get a chance to try it out. looks good!

here is the top wiped off
not really cosmolean on these more like axle grease
wiped off with a paper towel and some soapy water
the blade has particular patina as is, but going to clean it up a bit dress the terrible
blade edge as its beat to hell

I ordered a blade only bhojpuri from AC, which arrived today.

They're supposed to be unmarked, but a little light scrubbing revealed this on the spine

It says 2R on the top line, and either 150 or 750 on the bottom line.

Way cool! From what i understand is that no one really knows or has figured out what the numbers mean. Some of these number stamps have been found with devanagari script together. Maybe because of British inability to decipher devanagari script? Do you plan to put it to use? Guess we are going to have to figure out how to put handles on them?

Just looked and see they have the Bhojpure and the longleaf in blade only.......and close to my meager price range.

Seems like the handle is usually the weak link in a 100+ year old blade. Might be a good way to go and a nice variation on my grip making thing to play with during the winter.

Maybe not technically correct or fully the REAL thing but close enough perhaps for my neighborhood.

If anybody could make a grip worthy of one of those old blades, it would be you Bawanna. I bet it would be a lot prettier than the original, though.

Thanks! Yes, I do plan to try to use this one. There is some damage to the edge, but it still looks usable. I bought a hickory hatchet handle that's about the right diameter, I'm going to saw it down to size, drill a hole for the tang, and probably add a pin or two.

Here's a picture of the only really damaged part of the blade. It looks like it tried to cut into something harder and thin. Another blade, perhaps?

It looks like the edge tore here and was repaired.

Well thanks philllll, I don't mind saying I'm blushing a bittle lit here.

Wow these Kinks are deep. Almost looks like it was involved in a battle where Kukri blade hit Kukri blade square on.
How would one fix that? Just round file into the kink to get a better transition of it into the edge, or reduce the edge until its behind the kink and the kink is gone?

Hickory handle? Come on! Ndoghouse and me are planning to have at least carbon fiber handles, if we can't come up with anything fancier for these blades with awesome history.

The kinks are only about 1-2 mm deep. It looks like most of the metal's still there, it's just been cut and peeled back. I'll probably just bend it back rather than try to file it out.

The "tear" that was repaired is huge, though, about 15 mm deep. I hope it holds. This is what it looks like on the opposite side.

Part of me wants to build something cooler, but the other part of me wants to put a handle on it NOW and start whacking things with it as soon as possible.

I'd put a handle on it but most likely wouldn't whack anything with it. Get a Klvuk and whack to your hearts content.

That's hysterical, or historical you got right there. Sure wish they could talk, the things they could tell us.
