Damn those look tasty....Mmmmmm...

Steak is actually pretty good for ya. Its got the highest % of natural creatine in it. Just look for lean cuts.

Count me in, but my goal is to gain weight. 160lb right now, I'd like to get to at least 180, this means I'll have to eat a lot more read meat. I'll take a before picture asap.

Okay I'm in. A couple of weeks ago with my daughter.

5'9" @ 245#

in 6 months? 200 would be great.

I'm in. Currently working on it anyway. Will post pics and that starting weight on the July 1st. Thanks for the extra motivation.:)

I'll chime in here. I don't really care about joining the contest, just adding some info.

I used to be a PT stud...well, over the course of 10 years I turned into a married, fat, lethargic, civilian. I've been divorced for about 2 years now, which fixed that problem.

In January, I was 185lbs; and my blood pressure was typically 145/90. I'm 5'5" and 31yo, by the way. Anyway, my VA doc said I needed to start taking bp medicine. I said no, and we went back and forth until we decided on nasty fish-oil capsules and sticking to a healthier diet.

Jump to now: I'm 158lbs right now and am working on getting down to 135lbs. I'm more than half-way there. More importantly, my bp is down to a svelt 121/71.

Here's what I'm doing. Before getting into it, I need to say that the normal exercises that people do when they're loosing weight (walking, biking, swimming) don't work at all for me. Even when I was 185, I was pretty active, biking, hiking, soccer, running 2 miles-3 times/week, etc.

Anyway, here's what I do:

Mon/Wed/Fri: Morning Run: 8min/mile for 4-5 miles. I'm adding about .5 miles per week at this point.

Mon-Fri: As soon as I wake up, I do 3 sets of push-ups to muscle failure each set. I just started this last week, and counted this morning: 43/36/21. Not too bad for not having done push-ups in 10 years. I also do 5-7 sets of pull-ups at work, throughout the day. I'm weak at these, which were also started last week. My reps between 5 and 2, depending on which set and which day.

My diet, which is the most difficult part of this whole thing, and I am pretty used to it now, is:

Breakfast: One fruit
10:00 Snack: One fruit
Lunch: 5-7oz of fish, and between 3-5 servings of steamed veggies/salad.
Dinner: Salad, usually around 10 total servings of romain or green-leaf lettuce, mushrooms, onions, carrots, green onions. Salad dressing is oil/vinegar w/ pepper, garlic powder, and other spices mixed in. No salt for me.

The other important thing is I only drink water. I've always been a water drinker, and currently drink between 1-2 gallons/day.

After doing this for a little while, I can say that it's a PITA, and about twice as expensive as just eating fast food for lunch Mon-Fri.

It works for me, though. I have no idea what my caloric intake is, but I think it's pretty low. Well, I'm obviously burning more calories than I'm consuming which is good for now. Eventually, I'll have to change that when I get down to 135lbs and am running my goal of 30 miles/week.

Guess they are gonna go hardcore paleo now.

time to go shoot a squirrel :D

I've incorporated aspects of paleo into my diet because it's easy. Here's the non-paleo stuff that I like to eat: milk/cheese, cereal, granola bars, triscuits, cheese-its, and my all-time favorite food...peperoni pizza.

Now, for any diet/exercise program/whatever to work, the person must be able to do it. It can't be some extremely impractical program; it has to be comfortable and realistic.

To make my diet acceptable for me, I really just had to restructure my eating habits and alter a few things.

•Eat at least 3 times a day. This was hard because I don't like eating breakfast or snacks.
•Switch to the leanest beef I can find, and only eat it max, twice a week. No problem so far; I haven't had any real cravings.
•Eat more fish. OK, I like fish.
•Eat chicken.:jerkit: OK, I guess I can throw one or two meals of chicken in there.
•Eat more salad, way more salad. OK, I like salad, but am ditching the ranch dressing and cheese.
•Eat fruits.:jerkit: I don't like fruit; but, it's now routine to eat 2 fruits each day.
•Eat more non-potato veggies. OK. Steaming is super easy, and a little bit of pepper, garlic powder, and olive oil and they're eatable.
•Pizza: I cut back from once a week to once a month, and it tastes that much more delicious.
•The other non-paleo food: I just limit it to once a week, which is OK.

Cooking is the other important hurdle for me; I'm no cook. I grill my fish/chicken/meat and steam or sautee my veggies. I use olive oil, also. No butter or margarine and hardly ever use salt. This makes things easy and tasty enough for me.

Something else I wanted to add. Since I've been exercising and eating better, I've been feeling a lot better. I'm not so tired all the time, and sleep a little better. My bones don't hurt when I wake up. I used to have some GI medical issues like slow stomach and acid reflux, etc; which, now are almost entirely gone.

Glad to see more guys gettin in on this. I hope to see all of you finish in Jan!

I will start a thread on July 1st to kick it off. Till then, do whatever. Enjoy yourselves. On the 1st, its game time. No excuses!!! Come get some!!!!

......

I'm lucky- the VA doc has been all over me for a lot of other reasons, but my BP is ... well, I'm actually having my main problem be getting my metabolism UP. My resting BP last night (nursing student in the house, yay) was 105/57 and that's up from last year's normal 95/50

I am in a ketogenic state right now- I confess I started this a week and a half ago. Not dropping weight much yet, but the toxicity issues are clearing up fast. Here's my "semi paleo" setup right now:

Meat/Fish. any kind, any time, as long as it's as fresh as possible and zero additives.

Cheeses- all natural, hard/aged cheeses. There are cheeses with a lot of crap in them, and cheeses without. 4 ounces/day max.

Butter- used for coooking in whatever quantity needed. As there's no grain products or taters or whatnot, there's nothing to put butter on. (except steak)

dark green veggies, mostly leafy. - as much as I want when I want, nom nom nom. But raw. totally raw.

Nuts, seeds- limited amount based on glycemic index and carbs. Raw only.

Exceptions: some few peanuts. "Known Quantity" sausages, including salami and landjagers- very aparingly. Some 'low carb treat' stuff, such as Hansen's diet sodas, homemade low carb sugar free treats like cheescake and almond thins. Also very sparingly.

The kids are doing fine with this right now, it's cheeseburgers and hotdogs wrapped in lettuces, fish bites and chicken wings- and they are unlimited in all fruits and veggies for eating. And boy do they. Popsicles are made of fruit juice all summer.

Portion control is still an issue for me.

Exercise- okay, look. Last summer I went on a kick and tried (and did) to knock 2 inches of my wasitline. Paradoxically, this lead to my weight gain and general lathargic ass since last September when I started doing ALL the cooking for the kids and family and lost a lot of my exercise time.

Here's what knocked me at that time from a 37 to a 35 in levi's. 20-40 miles a day, EVERY DAY, of biking. flatland, no hills, but I kept a pace of 16-20mph day in day out. EVERY DAY. Mon/wed/fri 45 minute freeweight session with abs in between sets. 3-5 Hikes per week through the creeks and preserves around the area, 3-6 miles each.

That knocked 2 inches off. in 3 months. Figure what I have to do now.

I'll sit the contest out, but I'd like to add that since I stopped smoking I've never felt better. I dont think you can ever really be in good shape as long as you're sucking on those coffin nails.

Wow, what an awesome idea for a contest, with an equally awesome prize! I was thinking about this thread earlier today when I ordered a Baconator combo at Wendy's and sadly, it didn't sway my order.

As someone else put it, here is a picture of me with the reason I want to lose some weight.

I'm 5'9" and weigh ~230 lbs. I have somewhat broad shoulders, so I carry extra weight decently. Unfortunately, right now I've got about 45 lbs of extra weight to carry:eek: It looks like I carry it reasonably well in the pic above, but the one below is more revealing:o

3651245173_2ee85b3c2b.jpg

Ah, note the double (triple?) chin. Not so evident in these photos are the man boobs and love handles:o

I used to workout five days a week (at least) and often hit the gym twice a day, once in the morning for weight training and again in the afternoon for cardio. Unfortunately, working full time, getting married, going back to school part time and having a beautiful baby girl have all gotten in the way of working out. Over the course of the last two years, my gym attendance has dropped considerably. I've managed two days in the last two weeks, total. Hopefully, this contest will get me back into it!

I hope so too bro. You have a great reason right there in your arms...

I just ate dinner guys. Steamed green beans, chicken breast, and brown rice, and sliced tomatos. Mmmmm, What did you guys eat??????

Believe it or not - my reason is that I want a tattoo on my rib cage / side stomach and it'll cost a lot less smaller :)

Seriously though - I've got a kid, a bad back, blood pressure that rises with my weight so I'm over due. Hell, sex is a lot more fun when you feel good about yourself too :) Just sayin'.... Some more motivation

I am in. I am currently 5'11" and 220 lbs. I think that my biggest problem is portions. I just eat too much and then instead of putting the left overs away I will just eat them instead of putting 1/2 a meal in the fridge. I did the math when I first saw this thread and I consume about 10,000 calories/day. I plan to reduce that number gradually to about 2,500. Fast food is what is killing me. Do you know now may calories is in a triple cheese burger meal.
Thanks for the contest and a good reason to loose weight and get in shape.
I will get some pics up when I get my camera working again.

My new VA Doc is this 400lb, super dark, black lady that wears a ton of Egyptianesque jewelry and gold lipstick. She was all over me about my BP. My metabolism was crap; I used to eat like one time a day, just a normal meal and I was good. That's like 500-800 calories; nobody can survive on that, except maybe an 80lb girl. My body must have been running on a skeleton crew, I guess.

I'm still working on metabolism; but, I boost it by eating breakfast, snack, lunch, maybe another snack, dinner, maybe another snack.

I like my quasipaleo diet, it's been easy to adapt to and maintain.

Ok, I'm gonna join this contest because I NEED to.

I have lost 10lbs. in the last 6 months, but I need to lose a good 30lbs. more.

I'm 206 in t-shirt and jogging shorts today, and I need to get back down to the 175 that I was in High school.
