My new wilderness knife

Very cool Jake and Tony
I think I'm gonna send my Battle Mistress to Siguy and have him grind it down to 1/8 inch thick

Or you could send it to me and I will swap ya for a 1/8in knife. ;):p

Im not saying thick ones arent good, or dont have a place. Im just sayin I believe thickness is relative to preferance, and in the end it comes down to heat treat. Which btw, Busse does a great job with!!

Tony, Its on for the 4th of July weekend bro. I looked at flights and cleared it with the wife. Flights are CHEAP right now!!!
It will be insane!!!! Ill call with the times after I book!

Dunno if this was pointed to me specifically, or in general... I tried to write my post "tongue in cheek", or how do you guys say it, so, no need for a chill pill here :D

Anyway, my point simply was, that some of your comments can, and obviously have been, interpreted like I stated. You can either accept that as a fact, and be more polite in the future, or keep getting angry replies. Its really as simple as that.

I choose not to change a single thing about myself to suite someone else. I figure if someone doesn't like what I have to say they can either debate it... or ignore me. But I'm not gonna censor myself other than how is provided in BF's TOS. And I don't think I've been abusive of members and don't think I've called anyone any names like "Internet-Commando" for example. Have I been blunt? Straight Forward? Maybe even arrogant? maybe. But that's me baby.

I think it is kinda funny that you like a big ole he man knife that you beat like a dog and can't understand why we like little girly knives used to carve dolls. And yet you carry and defend a wee little pistol that would go better in a girls garter than in the woods. Seems like you would advocate a big he man 44 or something. ;) :D

Maybe some people have the same views on knives that you have on guns. Chris

Seems like you tie too much of your manhood into what you carry. I never used the term "Girly Knife" nor did I use the term "He Man Knife". Your words... not mine. There seems to be like three members in this forum that get really threatened when someone mentions the size of a knife. This entire time we've been talking about blade and edge thickness and the various tasks each can do. Never in this thread have I implied that someone is a wuss or a girly man for having a small knife. MY God! I own several small knives. I think miniatures are awesome. I bought a Busse HACK just because it's the smallest knife they make... and I did it just for the small size of it. Same thing with the mini mag revolver. I would LOVE to own one of those swedish micro revolvers that shoot like a 2mm round. The thing is the saize of a quarter and RULES! Now if you wanna talk horse power... I own a S&W 500mag and 460mag. Those guns drop bombs. But that's neither here nor there. I don't get you man.

Hey SJ got a pic of your Hack? Im not sure Ive seen one of them, and m a sucker for the smaller Busses...

A thin blade can be used hard too. :)

Heres one that is.... OMG, 1/8in 1095, convex!!!!

I was instructed by the maker to break it, and well, I tried. I even shot the edge with my .45. So, Im not gonna preach thick vs. thin. Im gonna let the pics do that for me, and show that its all in your preferance.

Not tryin to stir the pot, or get confrontational, I just thought this was relevant.

Testing included pounding it through a truck hood with a hammer, shooting it, pounding it into a seasoned log of oak, and then beating it out of the side with a hammer, etc..etc.. after alot of tests the edge as still sharp enough to cut a seatbelt several times. Its all in the heat treat boys.

LOL... No I understand. Listen to me... I'm not saying that a thinner knife can't be durable... only that a thicker one will handle more stress and abuse. You're right... it is all in the heat treat... but two blades of equal quality and heat treat, the thicker one is simply gonna withstand more abuse. Now... you take a 1/8th knife with outstanding heat treat and a .5" thick piece of taiwan junk... and it might be a very different story. And I haven't said that a thinner blade can't be useful... only that I like mine thicker because I enjoy and rely on that extra strength. That's all. That simple.

Here is a picture of my FBM stripped... it's got a Bead Blast finish underneath... which i'm slowing buffing into a hand rubbed finish.

Here ya go. It was on page two of this thread. Here it is with my Battle Mistress. It's like a little over 5" I think with a 2.5" or so blade. I think the thickness is .10. It's a very smooth little knife... and although it's only a 2 and half finger handle... it's surprising easy to handle for long periods of time.

I agree 100%, I just wanted to point out, for those reading(not neccisarily you), that a thin one can be a pitbull too.

All in your preferance, and I dont think you have bad taste in blades at all.

Jake, if you like the smaller Busses you should check out the Cultellus. I think it's the closest to a 'bushcraft' knife of the bunch.

I thought so too. the thin stock sure insinuates so. But the handle is too small for comfortable yet powerful control of the blade with wood which is elemental for a bushcraft blade. The blade doesn't perform as good as one might expect for such a thin blade. The grind and edge is just not right for bushcraft. My opinion of course. I grew up with puukko so my opinions are colored for sure.

I agree the handle is too small, both width and height. I keep looking at mine and trying to figure out how to make a puukko like handle for it. I have a pretty good idea of what I want to do, now I just have to get around to doing it. For now I've wrapped it with some paracord and that did help a lot.

I have to agree. Though it does make a nice general utility blade. I just really wish the point was dropped a good bit more than it is.

Those Culties are awesome looking blades. I just wish I could handle one before I buy. I am really happy with my SMOG at the moment. Fits my hand like a dream....
