Okay, biga$$ restrictor race at Talladega...The names above will shift a bit & the older drivers probably will move up a notch or two.

The Daytona Beach news-Urinal listed the hotter prospects. Once again , I agree with them.
They list in random order , Junior, pretty boy ,Michael,Smoke,Lowe's hero & a few newbies.

Safe racing !

Uncle [ alone in the wilderness ? ] Alan;)

Alan,

That list sems pretty right on except for Mikey...his cars were junk at Daytona and from all reports, much of the same for 'Dega. Reports are that he is a toss-up to make the race as he is not currently in the top 35 "in points" and must race his way in.
Gonna be a barn burner in Alabama as usual...

Elliot Sadler and Smoke are out front tomorrow.Tony took a ride on his roof today, but he's fine.
JR. will be driving a black car tomorrow,Dale Earnhardt Sr.'s 55th birthday,E.Sr. was inducted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame.

TALLADEGA IS SUPER!!

Doug:)
RAIN OUT.

Jimmie Johnson stays in front of Tony Stewart to win at Talladega.Jeff Gordon gets out of place and everyone avoids him like the plague,he finishes a disappointing (NOT TO ME.) 15th.
JR. blows his motor after recovering from a wild spin early on.

leatherbird,

Actually, it was the International Motorsports Hall of Fame. The new NASCAR HoF will begin construction soon in Charlotte.
Awesome last 10-20 laps today. Typical restrictor plate racing with two of the best cars all day finishing 15th and 16th. Wanted Smoke to take it, but not a bad finish at all. Next week...Richmond!

Wsyocum,
Yep.You're right.
Uncle Alan mentioned something about the I.M.H.of F. a while back,IIRC,
and the folks behind it.

Doug :)

We are lucky to have Uncle Alan here as a go-to guy with his amazing wealth of knowledge of NASCAR history.
Not to worry, I see #3 as one of the very first inductees into the new hall in Charlotte.

Thank's for the kind words.

Have fond memories of the old fairground's track there. Short, heavily oiled dirt & low banked , it drew top drivers for hundreds of miles. Always marveled at how the track squiggled in the turns after the herd thundered through.
Was at the new track before it was lengthened. My lady had never seen a car race & was looking forward to her first one.
Trip up was a real bummer though. Was clocked at 78mph on old #301 & was tried at a J P court in an abandoned service station. Fine was $78 & I only had $80 with me. Paid the fine & had to wake Sonny Mallory [Round man with the square deal ] who had a super speed shop & get him to cash a check for me.
More bummer ! Got there late & had to go into the infield. Got a great parking place & we sat on the roof of my '69 Dodge with our stockinged feet on the hood. When the green fell,my lady let out a Rebel yell, jumped up & kicked the antenna off my new car. Boy,she went ape !

I was naming the drivers for her & in those days you could identify the car make without looking on the hood crown. She started rooting for # 43 & she screamed & yelled him in for the win.
They had a cage in the infield to isolate the drivers, [a new thing] & we went over so she could see King Richard. He had facial hair, probably porkchops & a goatee. When I pointed him out ,banshee breath said, Richard, you're a damn good driver but shave 'cause you look like a bum!"
He grinned & waved at us.
Guess what ? He appeared at the Rock with a face as smooth as a baby's butt.
My lady passed away some years back . I have more stories about ouy track adventures for another time.

Tonight's lineup has 2 Fords up front ! Imagine that ? This race'll probably be a survival of the fittest one . Should be lots of a'beatin' & a'bangin going on too.

Safe racing !

Uncle Alan......

Lots of cautions,no injuries . A bunch of snakebites but # 8 stayed clear. Last 20 laps were really something. Hamlin was giving him nervous moments though.

Coincidentally, our church membership # [ for tracking donations ? ] is # 8.

Kid did well & hopefully the hex is lifted. Where did this Hamlin kid come from ? Don't mean his home, his rapid rise from obscurity is the question.

Wish Kerry would find the groove too.

There are so many newbies that it is difficult to keep up with 'em.

The team owners are getting fuzzy in my aging brain. Like they used to say at the baseball stadium in D.C.," You can't tell the players without a program " !

Guess I could play around with the NASCAR web.

Cindy, durn you girl, I wish you lived on our route to Kansas. I'd swoop down on your collards like a chicken on a Junebug !

SAfe racing .

Uncle Alan ;)

Kinda quiet w/ Uncle Alan out of town.
I guess the big to do is the Jarrett to Toyota deal, which I guess was never a big secret from the get go. Read an article today where life-long fans are vowing to burn their gear and never root for him again. One article told how when he jokingly said he consulted his dogs on the decision making process, people shot him angry emails telling him that he should have consulted his wife and family....
NASCAR fans may not all be the brightest nor the most rational, but never let it be said they are not passionate about the sport. I really think that is what all the nay-sayers of the sport have yet to grasp about its meteoric rise in popularity.
All-Star weekend in Charlotte is here. Should be a beatin' and bangin', fender rubbin, run 'em in the grass all for 1 million dollar$$$$ good time!

Able to use motel computer briefly. Glad thread is still alive.....

Yep, a high-speed demolition derby is in the offing. Am engineering our meetings to give us the evening off. As usual,I'm the only racing fan in the group.Since I am in charge of it all [wife excepted, naturally ] I'll get to watch it.
Hope to be home safe & sound for the Charlotte race next week. Remember Curtis Turner building the track in '59 & it was a honey !

Mamma's Yukon has 2,300 on the odometer .

Safe racing !

If possession is 9/10ths of the law.....

As I predicted-a high-speed demo-derby . Finally gave up watching at midnight CDT & saw the results on Yahoo at 4:40 am. My old body is still on Eastern time.

Safe race & look out next Sunday !

This week's qualifying was a wee surprise to me. The Dodge boys are looking good BUT it is the "World 600" & so much can happen during these marathons.
"Gotta' make it handle " quoted Paul Goldsmith years ago. Still a truisim, particulary on that tri-oval. A smart driver would stroke ,staying in the lead lap & then, trying to stay out of harm's way, head for the front. It worked for Freddy Lorenzen [ Elmhurst Express ] back in the '60's. I remember once he stroked a bit too much & almost lost the race, barely squeaking by. Think that was the race that he dumped his cookies just after climbing out of # 28.

Safe racing !

Uncle Alan
