NASCAR ,anyone, someone.... Just me ?

The 'Silver Fox' was a master at that as well. I just recently became aware of how few races he ran vs. what he won...his winning % is phenomenal.

Evidently, the Smoke-Kenseth deal is water under the bridge...they were both laughing and joking about it last night. What will the writers write about now...?

I don't think you will see anyone run away with this race because of the mandate for the smaller Daytona/'Dega fuel cell(14 gal.) So, lotsa pit stops and probably some good tire strategy because of the xtra hard tire.

Agree with you. Shame Pearson's son didn't really get a fair chance in NASCAR. Some gotta' win.........

Safe racing .

Uncle Alan

If David Pearson raced as many races as Richard Petty it's possible there would have been crowned a new King.In 547 starts Pearson won 105 times.
Just over eighteen per cent.

Did you two watch it?

Sam Hornish Jr. passes Marco Andretti AT the finish line to win the Indy 500 today.

I must be gettin' old.
Totally forgot about Indy.
First one I've missed (while home) in many, many years.
DOH!

CRS !
Watched the Braves kick the shix out of the Cubs & plumb forgot Indy.Game was comedy of errors & the most inept clowns lost .

Once followed Indy & related racing but once NASCAR appeared [originally ] with cars I could identify & relate to ...........

Lotsa' snakebites at Charlotte ! At least Jr. held his point spot & Smoke wasn't too banged up.

Uncle Alan

Watched Indy off and on...would've loved to have seen Marco win that one...it was like Hornish had a turbo boost on that pass.

The kid was real good in his win last night...I think he is tomorrows' big star.

Tony was hurting bad...fractured shoulder blade...ouch!

Not a bad race, but October will be better as I'm sure Goodyear will have a new(softer)tire and NASCAR will go back to the standard fuel cell.

Monster Mile ahead!

Rocketman finally back in a familiar position...

Qualifying results from the Monster Mile:

1. (12) Ryan Newman, Dodge, 154.633.
2. (19) Jeremy Mayfield, Dodge, 154.361.
3. (24) Jeff Gordon, Chevrolet, 154.063.
4. (2) Kurt Busch, Dodge, 153.774.
5. (29) Kevin Harvick, Chevrolet, 153.662.
6. (6) Mark Martin, Ford, 153.531.
7. (11) Denny Hamlin, Chevrolet, 153.466.

9. (26) Jamie McMurray, Ford, 153.146.
10. (20) Ricky Rudd, Chevrolet, 152.931.

Rudd qualifies Smokes car in 10th and will probably take over for him at the first caution...

Ray seems to be doing something right again. The era of Dodge dominance emerging again ,or maybe a fluke ? He & Pretty [whine ] boy had a long streak of wins that was both amazing & boring.
Mark was okay in the truck race. Would like to see him get another super soon.
Maybe Ricky can shine again with top-notch equipment. Hope the Monster doesn't devour too many tomorrow.

Safe racing.

The Daytona News-Urinal published these stats today.

Odds to win today.

J. Johnson 5-1
G Biffle 7-1
Mark 9-1
Kahne 10-1
Kenseth 10-1
Edwards 12-1
Pretty boy 12-1
Smoke 12-1
Jr. 15-1
Harvick 15-1

This really don't smell right to me. # 48 is coming into this on points, right? This is probably his Jonah track, right ?

Pretty boy starts 3rd & Jr. starts 11 th. Isn't this track rated just behind Darlington in being an a$$-biter ?

As Ricky Ricardo asked," 'splain me this,Lucy ".

We'll know when the fat lady sings, won't we ?

Safe racing !

Rookie Hamlin on the pole in his very first race ever there...
Smoke qualifies 18th w/a broken shoulder blade...
Welcome to the 'Roval'.

Back in the stone ages the term rookie was for the military. Any new face was usually a "local driver in his first Grand National race here today " . There were fewer new faces because you had the regular circuit drivers with just a new face now & then.
This old bird really needs a program & line up,heck I usually stay a few driver switches behind. The team owners are murky too these days. I'll read what you newbies write & be thankful.

Jr. looks better & you have to admire Smoke's determination.

Safe racing !

Uncle Alan

Smoke runs second fastest in the early practice...amazing. Gotta think he runs somewhat conservative come the green flag, with an eye on all the rookies and hard-heads...another 'up close and personal' with the wall and he could be in big trouble...
Jr. is hard to get a read on. He hasn't won a race and hasn't even been in contention to win one at the end...BUT...he's 4th in points...where'd that come from? Will he be this years Matt Kenseth from '03???

JR won at Richmond, couple weeks back.

Denny Hamlin survives a blown tire and spin to win at Pocono.
2 Kurt Busch
3 Smoke
4 Brian Vickers
5 Matt Kenseth
6 Greg Biffle
7 Kasey Kahne
8 Scott Riggs
9 Jeff Burton
10 Jimmie Johnson

Remember "The Pied Piper of Hamelin ?

He toodled his tooter or piddled his pipes,er,whatever to lead the rats out of town ?
Well another Hamlin situation arose yestiddy ! Denny led a mob of racecars to the finish line .
Truly amazing for a rookie, particularly one that had NEVER raced on that track before , won in a walk-away .

Smoke a candidate for ironman of the year ?

Safe race even if Pretty Boy had a spectacular wreck. He was unhrut ,thanks to all the NASCAR mandated safety devices.

Well Hamelin's headed for fame & fortune & on the surface, looks like he can handle it.

Uncle Alan :)

Gordon's brakes failed at over 200 mph at brake-in for turn 1. He spun and must have been doing 140 or faster when he slammed driver-side first straight into the wall. There were some tense moments before he shakily climbed out of the wreckage. He was obviously still feeling the effects when they interviewed him a bit later - sort of babbling dreamily about his close brush with death and how the modern safety devices did their jobs.

My bad Leatherbird...you are correct...still very much racing 'under the radar' so it seems...don't think he cares though...

Hamlin is impressive, funny thing is that Carl Edwards won at Pocono last year in his first ever race there too. If Denny can keep from 'racing' around his hauler for $100 bets he might amount to something  .

Fairy boys' (no offense to you Gordon fans...well, maybe just a little :p ) wreck was unbelievable...that kind of impact has been a killer, literally, in the past. It's downright amazing that he walked away from it.

Smoke, it seems, is becoming more and more 'Earnhardt-esque' as his career progresses. His performance was oddly familiar to those we were used to seeing from the #3.

Be they full'a crap in some rules & chickenshix policies, thanks to NASCAR for continuing to make racing safer.
Their grand muck-muck is running for public office in Daytona . Wonder who will benefit ? Maybe he is civi- minded. Good for him.

Seventeen days & counting....

Safe racing !
