Navman Appreciation - Photo Thread

Yeah...Modified sheepsfoot is what I would call it. It is one of my favorite blade shapes for everyday tasks.

A couple of beauties Josh made for me with cross draw lefty sheaths!
The small Bowie with walnut has an AEBL blade with a nice swedge and the vintage micarta b&t has CPM s90v.
Both came out perfect! Thank you Josh you were fantastic to work with helping me spec out exactly what I wanted.

Your Cheapskate status should be revoked, nulled and voided.

Cheapskate #8

Josh's knives are not cheap, by any means, but I have held many more expensive knives whose quality simply did not meet Josh's standards. In my cheapskate thread, I clarified that "cheapskate" does not only mean that a knife cost just a few dollars; it encompasses any knife that you find for a good deal (e.g., if you buy a pristine Randall for only $200 at an estate sale, that counts). I did not list Josh's knife in the cheapskate thread as: (i) it wasn't cheap; and (ii) I did not want to potentially associate his work with a term that many might view as negative, without adequate context. For the same reasons, I have made the same choice concerning knives I have bought from other makers.

I view the price I paid as a bargain in comparison to the genuinely excellent knife I received, and I look forward to buying many more Navman Knives in the future. I'll just have to save up a little bit longer than I normally do. After all, I am a cheapskate.

Okay..so, I have been asked multiple times why I don't charge more. I want my work in people's hands to use and provide feedback. I use the steels I do because I think a knife should cut for as long as possible. With modern abrasives, a user can maintain an excellent edge on high wear resistancec steels without much difficulty. I try to keep cost low so people will USE the knives and not put them on a shelf. I will continue to do this until it becomes financially impossible.

When you buy one of Josh's knives, you are buying a true handmade knife, not one built with a cookie cutter or made with a CNC.
On top of which, as an added benefit, it feels good to be supporting the efforts of a brother who has spent his life in service of his country.

Josh’s knives are an incredible value and excellent tools. I don’t understand why they aren’t all snapped up minutes after posting. I have 3 and hope to get more at some point after previous commitments are taken care of. I kind of feel bad not getting the white handled one he has posted, like I’m letting the team down.

I concur absolutely. Maybe there aren't yet enough Navman Knives in circulation to generate a broad reputation for quality. I sincerely hope that changes soon, as well it should.

Watching how quickly Josh progressed in leatherwork just re-affirms he's a world class craftsmen. Dude never stops tightening things up with detailed little touches (that have got to be a pain in the ass to do). The lines on that birdsbeak puukko are beautiful!

There's something to be said for skill, but having good taste is elusive even for some of the most refined makers... Josh has it, down to the aesthetic of his logo ;)
