Need to lose some weight....who's with me?

Keep up the good work guys! I used to weigh 255 back in 2011 when I played football and when I tore my ACL (which ended my career) I lost 56 pounds while being almost completely sedentary. A big source of motivation for me was progress pictures. I took a progress picture every two weeks and to see those little changes (like my huge love handles coming off lol) kept me going. Just stick with it guys because the end result is worth it! PM me if you guys need any help.

Ok, here's my list of who is "IN" for the Busse Weight loss club. If you have set a goal of what to lose but I don't have it on the list or if it is incorrect let me know. If you haven't set a goal I'd suggest you do so. Setting goals is the first step to achieving them. ;)
If there is anyone not on the list that wants to be let me know. If there is anyone on the list that doesn't want to be....to bad. ;) I added a couple that were a little wishywashy in their posts.... ;)

Eric Isaacson - 20 lbs
Bema
David Brown- 50 lbs
GravelFace
Dericdesmond
Eslam98-
Swamp-Hog
Lora7
Joshua J
Techno- 26 lbs
M67
Hindsight
T.A.C.
Wheaticus
Gixxer1237

Plus me!! :D

I am just working on the high stress diet.... lost nearly 19lbs in 5 weeks, a sad side effect is the associated heart attack...!!

I survived Valentine's Day without too much trouble. I even brought in candy and cookies for everyone at the shop and didn't eat a single bite. I stared longingly for a couple days until the candy was finally gone but I made it. I just checked and I'm down 3lbs. I'm going to battle this little by little.

I've added you to the list. Welcome to the group.

Thanks, Eric! Just weighed myself. Turns out I'm 197. I was 195 about a month ago, so this is not going well so far :p

I went back to read through the whole thread after this, and it was nice hearing everyone's stories (great job, Salvo and Azwelke). I should contribute.

I started addressing my health in October, 2012. 222 pounds and I think 40% body fat. Around 86lbs of just fat! My goal hasn't exactly been to lose weight, but to just be healthier and more active. So I joined a gym and slowly, very slowly, but surely have been improving. Last I checked in November, I was 198 pounds and 22% body fat, and I'm still working on it. I've been picking up the powerlifting recently so I may not be so successful with the 15 pound loss, but I've been overweight my whole life and can't ever imagine myself at the so-called "ideal" weight for my height (5'10", 160ish lbs).

Some things I've picked up from a working out point of view and not only diet changes:
  • It's not hard to pick up a new habit. It only takes a week or so of doing it consistently
  • Eat whole, organic, raw, etc., all the new fancy words, when possible and safe
  • Eat slowly. Give yourself time to realize you're full before stuffing your face more
  • Learn new things. I found new interests in mobility and agility stuff (parkour, breakdancing, animal flow), boxing, powerlifting, and yoga. Still not into running though :grumpy: but I'm trying
  • Find something you enjoy. Or if you can't find something enjoyable, take it as a challenge and strive for the goal
  • Do things progressively or you might hurt yourself. Always cool to see yourself improving, too
  • SLEEP!

The Busse girls mentioned mud runs and obstacle course races a while ago. I signed up for three Spartan Races this year, and in the process, you can also sign up for their Food of the Day/Week and Workout of the Day mailing lists. These are geared toward active people, but there are still great ideas on healthy eating in the food one. More knowledge, more power

I should have mentioned, I have 10lbs to drop before may so add me to the list. I'm trying to get my 6pack back...

I've lost 10 pounds in the last two weeks. Gonna get back to my post divorce weight again.

AROO!! I've been getting the Spartan WOD emails and am really trying to find the courage to do a sprint, but those burpees intimidate me. Good for you for signing up! You'll have to post about your experience.

I've been on the Spartan WOD mailing list for about a year now. The burpee challenge about did me in. I've always hated burpees, 30 days of them definitely did NOT change that at all. A few of us girls have been looking at a few different mud runs this year. I am determined to finish a Tough Mudder in a relatively impressive time. It'll happen or I'll sign up for more races until it does. :)

Will do. My first Spartan Race will be the sprint in April, then a super and beast in September. They are a bit pricey to run often, but I'm trying to get the trifecta.

I said running wasn't my thing in my last post only two days ago, but I started running yesterday and I'm starting to like it.

Have you done them before? They seem pretty tough, but I heard that the Spartan Beast is more challenging.

I haven't done any mud runs...YET. On their website, Spartan Race breaks down the difference between each level. The way they explain it, the Spartan Sprint is a 3+ mile race with a minimum of 15 obstacles. The Super Spartan is a 8+ mile race with no less than 20 obstacles. The Spartan Beast takes the take, coming in as a 12+ mile race with 25 or more obstacles! There is a link to a race called the Spartan Ultra Beast on their FAQ page, they only show that race happening one time in 2012. It was about 26.2 miles of obstacles. So basically, its a marathon with mud and mountainous obstacles to keep you from crossing the finish line. Maybe some day it'll happen again...

You are a beast! I tried the 30 burpees/30 days and lasted only a few days. I don't mind doing a bunch within a single day's workout but day after day... Yuck.

I'd like to do a Tough Mudder, too, or a Warrior Dash. Locally, we have a Marine Mud Run, which I did last year. I'll do it again this year and see if I can beat my time.

Ok.....it's time I join the group.
As they say, the older you get the harder it is to take the weight off.
In 2004, I dropped from 267 to 222. I've slowly crept back up to my new high and current weight of 273(6'6")

My wife, a registered nurse who works for my doctor, has convinced me to commit. Joining this group is part of that commitment. It helps me to focus and I , as my wife can attest, relish a good challenge.

So my goal is 235 (38lb drop) which is a good weight for me given my height. I will check in regularly to track my progress and I wish all of you that have also committed great success.

Thanks, but I wouldn't say beast is the right term yet. I'm training to be one :) I used to hate running and anything that went along with working out. Something changed last year and now I want to inspire people to be healthy. Good luck beating your time! I think that's the best way to go about it. Don't worry about anyone else, and do it to progressively be better than what you used to be

Georgecatl,
I've added you to the list. Welcome to the group and good luck.

SuzeZQ,
Do you want me to add you to the list or are you just playing along at home ;) Either way congrats on the weight loss.

I've lost another 3 lbs this week, a little less than I'd hoped but I was traveling with my daughter for a couple of days and being fed to well at a college she was visiting. (the free meals with desserts was too hard to resist ;) ) I'm down 7 lbs from my starting weight.

Lost 1 lb. Need to stop the drinking.... Cut down but still some alcohol most days... Went to gym too. Progress not perfection. Sweets I can do without, but a beer or two after shoveling my driveway? Priceless

For anyone who walks, runs or bikes outside and uses their phone for tracking distance or just to listen to music as you move. There is an app that I discovered last year and had forgotten about until I went for my run this morning. The app is called Charity Miles, they donate money for every mile that is tracked using their app to the charity you choose from their list of organizations. It tracks your distance by using your phone's GPS so it isn't something you can use on a treadmill, but I like the idea of giving back while I'm sweating off the pounds. I just wanted to share it with you guys. :)
