I normally cary knives with blade lengths ranging from 2" to 4", usually more than one.
I use my knives for anything that needs cutting because cutting is more elegant than ripping. The things I have done this week with knives that come to mind first were to:
* open packages (the plastic "clam shell" types)
* cut off the plastic wrapped metal wires that hold toys in place in packaging (barbie horses)
* prune back some flowers in the yard
* impress a few friends with the beauty of abalone handles on an exceptionally well made knife
* cut leather exactly to size
* remove wrapping and tags from new hats and drums
* replace the string in a gas powered string trimmer that had become tangled inside
* trim and shape twigs into skewers for cooking marshmallows
* cleanly remove a hangnail
* cut a burr out of my dog's fur
I started carying my first knife when I was 7 years old.
Best wishes, Sal.
