4'
Spyderco Yojimbo, right front pocket (EDC)
Spyderco Ronin or S.P.O.T., neck carry

For now this is my SD package. Has advantage as SD weapon, i carry a O.C. spray as non-lethal weapon, knives are controlled use of force objects, non stray bullets, no overpenetration, also carry firearm Glock 19 ( i am a LEO)

For cutting chores i use a SS Cricket, mostly opening bags and boxes, slicing fruits for the kids, stripping cables and twine,

Yojimbo and Ronin are only intended to cut "soft" objects

Started carrying knives when i was about 8, bought first quality knife (Spyderco) at 15
Have three daughters, oldest (7) can carry my S.P.O.T. when she wants too.
Good luck

I´m not U.S. citizen or resident, but if this helps:

Usually carry a multiblade folder 2 1/2 to 3 inch blade.

Every day use cutting string, paper, tape, cardboard, plastic ties and containers, fruit and such at lunch, clean fingernails, etc.

Got my own knife and started carrying at age 8, a boy scout pattern folder, had used knives before that, often at school to sharpen pencils, etc.

1. 2.5" (work) to 4" (home/yard)

2. General cutting, yard work and gardening, opening mail or cartons. Whittling.

3. Started carrying at around 13 or 14.

i found a "strange" thing in these replies, that the older the person the earlier they started carrying. I live in Belgium and until now, it is still "normal" to carry a small folding knife on your person here. I am 33 years old now and have been carrying various cheap knives since 8 thru school, stept up to quality knives in high school and university. No one ever objected me for carrying a knife. My knife saved my life twice and that was before i got into law-enforcement. Never had a problem with the knives even in school. It was "normal" then to have a knife as a boy, and never got in trouble by it. I hope u get enough replies to have a statistical correct result ( around 600 samples). Good luck

"it's better to be judged by twelve then to be carried by six"

I usually carry a knife between 2-3.25". I use my knife for all sorts of utility like cutting boxes, ties of bundled paper, opening packages, peeling fruit, removing splinters, removing tags from clothes, cleaning my nails, scrapping battery posts, removing coupons, etc.

I was given my first knife at five and I started to carry around the age of six.

Hi Sal,

I carrry a folder with a 3" blade and I use it mostly every day for opening mail, cutting fruit, cleaning my nails, around the house doing chores and many other uses too numerous to mention.

I'm also in the 2.5 to 3.5 inch carry range. Most of my day to day uses involve opening boxes and packages.

I've carried one on and off since joining the Boy Scouts at age eleven. I'm forty-eight now.

1. I carry from 3" to 4" folders and a sak.

2. Utility purposes, opening boxes, tiny bit of prying, peeling an apple, cleaning wild game, had a big mess of squirrels this morning, opening the mail, i use a knife for what a knife needs to be used for.

3. I got my first little knife when i was around 7, but really didn't start to carry a knife until i was 16.

I really hope we can help make a difference.

Hi Sal,

I normally carry in the 3-4" range (for my main knife). I usually also carry a leatherman juice and a Simonich Bitteroot (around my neck). So...sometimes a lot shorter than 3-4" (Bitteroot)...but my main blade is in that range. Today, I'm actually carrying my Gunting inside my pocket. Many times I will carry more than one main blade. I think we all know how this is....

I carry for utility and self defense. Also for fun (that's the stockman I carry for Whittling sometimes). I'm too old to open things with my fingernails and teeth.

I started carrying when I was 10.

I live in Texas...so I could go up to 5.5" if I wanted. By the way...my oldest son now carries when he's not at school. I started him off with a small SAK.
