Kershaw1085 ripped me off. I waited several weeks and never received anything. Still haven't. Ironically, the knife I was promised was the Monochrome he sent to Risen.
This is what I posted in his reviews area:
Distracted/Annoying Trading Partner
Kershaw1085 ripped me off, more by distraction than by intent.
It has been four weeks, and I have not received the knife he promised, although he acknowledged that he received the one I sent.
This was an uncomfortable trade. We first communicated around Monday, October 11.
I sent out my knife on Wednesday, October 13; he was supposed to do the same. I did what I had promised to do, and sent him the delivery confirmation #.
On Thursday, October 14 I received the following email: “hey man thanks I didn't get a chance to ship out today works bin crazy but I will 100% ship out tomorrow before work.”
No communication from him after that.
On Saturday, October 16 I sent the following email: “The USPS says the package is set for delivery today. Please let me know when it arrives. Also, have you gotten to the post office yet?”
The next day, on Sunday, October 16, I received this email: “yes I did get the skyline today its sweet. I did not get a chance to ship out the monochrome today the boss has bin giving me over time I will make sure to throw in something for making you wait I don't have work Monday so I will 100% ship it.”
A week later, nothing had happened. I had received no communication whatsoever, and no knife.
On Sunday, October 24, 2010 I emailed him. I wrote:
“What is happening?
--I have not heard from you at all since last week. No updates, nothing.
--You said you had last Monday off, but nothing went out.
--I figured you might be busy at work, but just noticed that you posted yesterday on this thread:

How is it that you have time to post, and to suggest another trade, but not fulfill previous committments?
I would appreciate a reply.”
Just to be sure, I also sent it via email through Bladeforums as well.
That finally got an answer. He wrote: “sorry man to be completely honest I forgot, got a lot of trades going on/works bin crazy i just wrote a note on my hand to ship the monochrome out to you tomorrow. sorry for the misunderstanding i was not trying to rip you off in any way could you send me your shipping address agen?”
The next day, of course, I did not hear from him. That night I sent this message via email and via Bladeforums: “I haven't heard anything. Did you get to the po like you said?”
About ½ hour later I got this reply from the Bladeforums posting: “I sent it out today but i forgot to get a tracking number you should get it in 3-4 days.”
That was on Monday, October 25. It has now been two weeks. I have received absolutely nothing. Pursuing this matter with him would be pointless, and not worth the frustration. Especially without tracking numbers.
I have no reason to disbelieve anything he wrote; he is engaged in multiple trades, and others seem to have gone well. And I cannot believe he particularly wanted to defraud just me. However, I never received anything from him.
Thus, there is the possibility of something going terribly astray, as in this case. This trader can get distracted and forget about you, or worse. My advice is to keep careful track of what is happening, and be prepared to do lots of follow-ups before you achieve a successful trade. Be cautious with this trader.
I can provide the full emails upon request, redacted with all personal information.

Having read this thread, I am now convinced he is not of good faith. Even more maddening, one of the knives he is now offering for trade is the one he ripped off from me.
Is there anything more we can do about this thief?

Heck, I wish you had posted about this guy sooner. If I'd seen this pattern before posting neutral feedback on him, I would have made it a negative, for sure.

Hi All,
I want to thank everyone, again, for their participation in this thread. I hope it benefits BladeForums and its Members, and that it helps to prevent against future trade deals from going bad.
Regarding kershaw1085, it was mentioned in a related thread thread that a Google search was done on his name/alias which didn't turn up much other than activity here (BF), and that most of that activity was in the trade forums. There were also suggestions that these findings may indicate kershaw1085 may not be so bad and may still make good on ASBOB's deal. Perhaps.
Since that other thread was temporarily closed, and since this thread is directly connected/related to the topic at hand (imo), I'd like to share one final observation on this matter.
kershaw1085 is an alias. One of the beauties about having an alias is that you can actually have many. So, we don't know if the person behind kershaw1085 uses only this one alias, or if he has many, as well.
With regards to indications that kershaw1085 mostly participates in the trade forums, that tells me that his primary reason for being here is to continually strive for trading up. In light of how he handled his last couple of trades, I don't see it as a good sign. He knows about these threads, yet he chose to focus on continuing to attempt more trades rather than set things right here.
I don't know what the end result will be with this guy, but I will keep tabs on it, just out of curiosity. Some folks have asked why this guy hasn't gotten banned. Who knows. I'm not going to ask because I don't want to get referred to some other thread only to end up with a "because we said" result.
Now, about ASBOB's thread being temporarily closed, since my part in an exchange led to that closing, I'd like ASBOB to take over this thread if he wishes. This thread has not gotten as distracted as the other, so focus can still be given to the main topic, kershaw1085.
I admit to not having much tolerance for folks who assume too much in certain areas. And in the case of ASBOB's related thread, I let it take away from his issue. For that, I apologize to ASBOB.
ASBOB, since you've shared your experience here, as well, regarding the same person at issue, kershaw1085, please take over this thread for me as I step away from it, to keep the kershaw1085 issue alive.
I believe BF is a great source of information, so it's still worth checking in for certain types of news.

There is lots of news. To be honest, this feels like a soap opera; I think we should retitle this thread, "As the World Turns".
Esav was in touch with our main character, and demanded that the lad get in touch with me and square things. Kershaw is under a temporary ban, by the way, pending his successful efforts with me.
On December 5, yesterday, he emailed me as follows:
"hey man sorry for not emailing you back I will admit I was pissed at you for leaving me bad feed back with that sed I did send you the package weather you believe me or not. I would be willing to do what ever this takes to make it even i still have your skyline I only opened a few postage letters with it. it is still brand new or I could send you 20$ in a week or two when I have the money."
To which I replied:
"Regarding the feedback: I left you negative feedback after:
--repeated lies and attempts at evasion by you
--repeated failures on your part to even reply
--several weeks of waiting for you to do the right thing after you swore you sent it by priority mail. That is far more tolerance than was required.
I have never received anything. That is all the evidence I have. And if you sent it to me ("I did send you the package weather you believe me or not"), how can you still have it ("i still have your skyline ")? One part or the other of your email has to be false.
Knifecenter is one of the larfgest online knife dealers. They list the Skyline at $35 ($34.95: http://www.knifecenter.com/kc_new/store_detail.html?s=KS1760). Add in $5.00 for shipping at usps, and $5.00 for my time in packing and dealing with this, it comes to $45.00.
That is a legitimate price. Let me know if you need my address, again. I will only accept cash. If I don't have this in hand by next Monday, December 13 I will report to Esav that you never paid and ask him to take the appropriate measures."
Esav replied to me, "This guy is a ditz. An airhead." And agreed that the deadline I set made sense.
Kershaw replied:
"for 45$ this close to xmass the date you gave I couldn't do I could maybe do it after xmass. what if I send back the skyline and a BNIB sanrenmu 730 and a used but not abused gerber clutch?
who's is esav?"
I replied:
"My offer stands. If you send it by any number of express mail services it can get here. I am tired of playing with this."
At this point, Esav was also losing patience.
Our hero now tried a new gambit:

"No. That is totally incorrect. The $45 by next Monday or nothing. Unltil and less you agree to pay the money do not communicate with me again."

To tell you the truth, this would be funny to me if I were reading it. But having to actually deal with it is a major pain.
