Never Fear, The Northwoods Zulu Spear is Here!

Derrick, It's a feather in your cap that you keep us (your customers) up to date and correspond to questions, comments and complaints so readily. The mere fact that we follow you let alone purchase your fine products is all I need to know as to what a fine company you have. It does seem that the harder you try the more discussion you receive. I believe that it's the high standards you set that encourages us to seek ever better results. And, as hard as business can be you have delivered. Keep up the good work.

Alan

People take for granted that packaging is a cost rolled into the price of the knife. Be it a plastic bag, cardboard tube, leather slip, or something fancier, some are cheaper than others. But when the cost of a paper box is near equivalent to the cost of a leather slip, and there is no option to eliminate either at a reduced price then please continue to utilize the slip as packaging.

Oh.. and about the next Northwoods product...... wood covers this time? *cough* ;)

No goldy locks cows out there for those of us who prefer leather in between limp and stiff? :D

The GEC slips are made with stiff on the front and soft leather on the back... works out pretty good.

Maybe we need a Bladeforum committee to lotion up the cows..

My denim micarta should be here Friday. I ordered based on appearances. I'm a little concerned it will be a brick in the pocket--
Still, it will be a beautiful brick!

I could not resist this knife! I dropped a dime on a Giraffe bone, with dark, variegated color.
Tony Bose made a very similar knife with what he called a Modified Wharncliffe blade, and when I found a near identical blade on an Antique Schrade listed in their catalog as a Zulu Spear, the name changed and history was made. Tony made me this knife subsequent to that event! I can't wait to compare them!!

Now that is cool!:thumbup:To have a part in the process of a pattern so widely known is absolutely amazing!!

On giraffe bone... It is dyed and stabilized and because of its density it takes the dye in interesting ways.

So were all of the giraffe bone Zulus dyed with the same color dye and the differences are due to the nature of the giraffe bone?

Because it is generally more dense than cow, giraffe absorbs dye differently - more reluctantly if you will, but orange and blue and brown dyes still result in at least some of their intended color. Different color dyes are definitely used.

Out of 80 or so knives I saw one blue, one green, a couple mostly white, and the rest were 60% shade of brown, 30% orange tones... that's my very rough approximation. If you use this link below (my knife I ordered #35) and change out on the number in the link (change the 35 to 36 and so on..) you can see all of them yourself.

So now that Northwoods has checked the Zulu Spear off of the bucket list... is it time for a Lanny's Clip?

What do you think, Derrick? Too soon?

Awesome knives. Good strong pull, yet perfectly pinchable. Nice thin slicers. Beautiful bolsters. This is my first denim micarta, and I really like it.

Well done, Derrick.

Your denim looks great buzzbait!

I wonder if the stag will have a shield..... it will be interesting to see. I think it will look better without the arrowhead shield, but it's hard to say for sure.

Postman brought this today!!! Smooth mammoth with lots of depth to the grain. Thank you Derrick and GEC!
