That article is a riot.
"The biggest folding knife we've ever seen"
Have they not seen the Cold Steel rajah II.
or the Espada XL because those are basically double that knife.

Ohh man but if they used 3V in the
Rajah II...... ughh yes I'd buy 2 no shame.

Back on topic.
Bold move on CRKT. But jumping from 100 bucks to 750 for a production knife is a big jump. Personally not a fan of that knife but I'm sure people will still buy it. Just not many.

They did make a point about making PREMIUM products a little while ago.
Hey, I'd be happy if they just tried to make a halfway decent knife with a good heat treatment. They have so much potential with some of their designs but, always fall short on materials. It's sad, really.

It really is.
If they just moved up that next step, I think they would be favorites for a lot of people.

Why don't they follow the auto industry and come out with a second line of products under a different name?
You know, Honda/Acura, Toyota/Lexus, CRKT/Liberty Knives.

The thing is, they could pull that off. Just start out with what they now use as their premium steel. IIRC, Sandvik 12 series? Make that their basic entry steel and then add something like 154CM as an upgrade. And, never make any of the products in China. That would be a deathwish. Not that all products from China are bad but, you get the idea.

Just never, ever put the CRKT logo on the knife, box or paperwork. That also would be a deathwish.

Kinda like a Kershaw/ZT thing. That would probably work. It’s not like Tiawan can’t put out awesome products if they want. Just look at the medals from Spyderco, Cold Steel and Ontario for proof.

Oh neat! Let me just make sure I understand this clearly: A $750 dollar oversized folder, branded by CRKT, built in [unknown country] by [unknown OEM], issued in limited numbers and only reviewed so far by ad websites like Gear Patrol and Hiconsumption?

I can't imagine this going poorly.

This still does not make up for 20 years of substandard materials, laughable heat treat and poor QC. Great or at least fun designs from CRKT but horrible execution on almost every model I've had over the years. Let's see them upgrade the materials and quality on the current models with appropriate cost increase and a year or two of solid quality, then they might be on the right track.

I will only respect any post from here forward if the person who is crapping has some hands on experience with the actual knife in hand.
Really? That's going a bit far. Imagine how much less traffic and knife discussion there would be on bf if folks were only critical of knives they have handled. Taking it further, how many people are going to be able to handle this knife? Not many. Last, most aren't all that critical about the knife itself but rather the price and the company that commissioned it.

I know enough about what I like and a $750 crkt is not it and I have no problem backing up my preferences with my experiences.

That's what I was thinking. Just like Kershaw/ZT. It has worked well for them. Very well.

CRKT could be the budget line for places like Walmart and Target. They already have a good foothold there. The other company (say Liberty Knives, just because) could be aimed at retailers like sporting goods, and firearms dealers. If they would do something like that, I might even consider another purchase.

Let's be real.

Re-release ;

CRKT

-S2 frame lock
-Apache
-Prowler
-Falcon
-Kasper
-M-16/21

All in quality build and materials. They have some of the best designs on the market. I grew up on old school CRKT a few decades ago.

Quality frame , liner , button and back locks would do amazing things!

(Quality)

CRKT does NOT need new designs and locks. They just need to upgrade the time tested designs they already have. An All Star team is listed above.

Classic. Recalled already.
ROFL. "The most hard use, heavy duty we've ever made" and the damn thumb studs break. That's the funniest thing I've heard today. How inept do you have to be to fail at thumb studs/stop pins?

It's not much of a design exercise when you increase strength by making the knife a whole lot bigger and heavier.

This sounds good on paper but they can't get what they do now right. Even on the budget level, Kershaw has them beat on quality all day long. They need to be competitive with what they already do before doing anything else.

Here is a CKRT designed by Ken Onion, built by Lion Steel, 2014 Blade Magazine Overall Knife of the Year, that was definitely worth the price. Unfortunately it was a limited production run.

I had a Hi Jinx, got one cheap and was not impressed. the machining in certain spots like the blade tang was terrible, so was the action. It was heavy and hard to get out of the pocket. I got rid of it quick. 750.00 for that one ? I wouldn't dare go near it, even if it was perfect. At that point id go for another Thorburn, or a 95T, or an embellished Sebenza.

CRKT recalled the Lead Zeppelin, wow that was fast. I have made fun of LT and Cold Steel in the past for some of the ridiculous marketing and products, which I might have recently been buying a lot of, but at least Cold Steel get it right the majority of the time. New motto for needs to be "CRKT under-performing and underwhelming since 1994". They are starting to make SOG and their approach to improving their own line look good.
