You forgot the highest value stainless Steel, where's bucks 420hc ? It takes and holds an edge very well and the knives that buck uses it on are very affordable.
Overall my favorite steel is 1095 ( said it before and will say it again, stainless Steel doesn't age well it just gets scratched and crappy looking )

Well, looks like the Busse fanboys decided that they couldn't stay out of it and rallied the troops to push this poll into absurd levels of innacuracy.

Take note OP and others thinking about doing polls on here, this just shows how online polls can always be skewed in favor of whoever has the largest organized group of people to throw at it, which really make them useless for anything but arguments.

For what it's worth, I would choose M390 over INFI every day, I prefer edge-retention and stain-resistance over toughness in my folders and small fixed blades.

Lol, what a cry baby.

If looking for the most common and popular steels for the general populace and production knives produced, there are many steels listed in the poll which I would not list simply because they constitute a niche segment.

Steels I would exclude due to having a niche segment are along the following steels:

  • CPM-4V
  • CPM-9V
  • CPM-10V
  • CPM-15V
  • CPM-S60V
  • CPM-125V
  • 52100
  • SR101
  • INFI
  • 5160
  • K390
  • K294
  • ATS-55
  • Vanadis 4 Extra
  • LC200N
  • H-1
  • X15TN
  • N680
  • N685
  • Acuto+
  • M2
  • Maxamet
  • CPM-Cru-Wear
  • Z-Wear
  • VascoWear
  • HAP40
  • Super Blue
  • YXR7
  • OTHERS (leaves it too open-ended)

I didn't even vote in the poll, what are you talking about? Do you actually think the results of this poll mean anything valid?

LOL, do you think the polls would have meant anything before the fanboys showed up(your words)? So then why bring it up at all about fanboys ruining the poll? Crying about fans of a certain steel coming and voting in a legit poll is called being a crybaby. Just own it. Just for the record, I would not ever take m390 over INFI or cpm3V, but I have different priorities than you. toughness and anti chipping are my main criteria.

When a steel has 1 vote the first day, and then 90 votes 2 days later, while none of the other steels in the thread go up more than a couple votes, then it's obvious that someone rallied a bunch of people to just swing by to upvote and leave. Why start a thread in the Busse section to get people over here to upvote INFI (since most people who hang out there don't hang out in GD and thus didn't see this poll) except to mess with the poll by skewing the numbers? It takes any validity of the poll and removes it, and lets everybody know it was the Busse guys that did it; not making a very good name for yourselves. 'Excellent job hogs', 'INFI RULES LOL', etc. gives a poor impression of Busse fans for those who aren't, and leaves a poor taste for anybody hoping to actually gain anything from this thread (not me).

You also failed to read my whole post, or else you'd see that I would choose M390 for *small* fixed blades and folders, I would choose 3V for when toughness is actually useful instead of just a sales tactic.

You are wrong on so many levels it is not even funny. So you like people to not vote basically. In fact, yes, getting the fans of INFI to vote is the right way to show people the real interest in this forum of INFI. You don't like it, that's your problem. It is called Freedom. But I agree that there should be two polls, I would say that you break up a poll into folder knife steel and fixed blade steel.

No other steel in this list has it's own subforum (mainly because no other steel in this list is proprietary to one brand), so no other steel can have a fan go to their subforum and tell people to go vote for it. Everybody else who picked their favorite steel saw this thread while in General Discussion, so those votes came naturally. I'm with RamZar on this one, INFI is one of those steels that is too niche to include in a broad spectrum of widely available steels, it doesn't fit this poll.

Wow, thw butthurt seems extra strong with this one....why? Its just an online poll? There are thousands of members here on bladeforums, us INFI fans make up a small percentage of that total population. If everyone here or even just 30% of the forum cared to vote, these polls might look a lot different (or not because INFI is pretty damned special...)

Tell any group of people not to vote? Simply because you don't like their presence here? Isnt that akin to fascism or socialism, or some otherwise not very cool -ism? Common now...

If the majority of people on this forum aren't passionate enough about their blade steels to take 30 seconds to cast a vote, why should that be our problem?

Also whoever posted that huge list of "niche" steels, I'm really having trouble with the logic.

Nobody here was 'passionate' about voting for INFI until someone else started a thread saying 'go, be passionate about INFI here'. Any semblance of authenticity to the INFI votes here is negated by the thread over in the Busse subforum telling everybody about the poll.

It sure gives insight as to how fanatical INFI owners are, that's for sure.

Why not? It's a poll, set up in General, to get a wider view. Yes, we like INFI, but this poll is open to anyone, popular vote, no next level "college" BS. It is as fair as can be. You cry foul, and you haven't even voted.

...Sounds like most of my friends after each presidential election... "I can't believe that candidate won, how is that possible?"
My response: "Did you vote?"
Theirs: "Well no... But it wouldn't have mattered."
Me:

This is fairer, yet same argument. Gimme a break.

I saw the first poll and didn't know that a second one has been made. It can be tough to keep track of everything going on in this forum. Based on my experiences and tastes I would have voted for INFI with or without the heads up from Cobalt if I had seen the new and improved poll before...I know many would have done the same.

Have you seen the Busse forum? The passion (and for some, fanboyism) is strong with or without a poll to validate said passion.

The pleasure comes in using and enjoying it more so than voting about it (or any steel), anyway.

A wide majority of us participate in various areas of Bladeforums beyond the Busse forum and are a part of the community just like you or everyone else here. We have every right to voice our opinion regardless of how we find out that a new poll had been posted...

But once again, we're all fans of sharp metallic objects, regardless of alloy composition and the results of this poll ultimately are meaningless in the grand scheme of things, so why does it bother anyone so much?

Can't we all just get along and celebrate the awesomeness that is a well made blade regardless of blade steel?

✌

This poll is a classic example of powerful an easily-guided group of people really are, if it wasn't for Cobalt pointing out that INFI had 1 vote while M390 (or whatever the leading option was at the time) had over 10, nearly nobody from the Busse forum would've come over here to vote, they would've stayed in the Busse forum like normal (if you doubt me, just read most of the repsonses to the thread there in the Busse subforum). Because 1 person decided something needed to be 'fixed' everything got skewed way beyond the normal. This isn't about freedom to post, this isn't about suffocating the INFI people, this is about a fanatical group of people getting pointed towards something and being told what to do. Is that allowed? sure. Does that mean this poll is accurate? no.

I understand the passion about INFI, the fact you have a highly active subforum basically dedicated to it speaks highly of the love some have for the steel.

Just don't tell me 90 people from there would have discovered this poll naturally, because that's just simply not true.

So...we're being led like sheep into General, and told what to do?
Am I reading you correctly? :)

You have the same power to inform others of this poll.
I know for a fact that one of our "easily guided" regulars came over here and threw a vote for M390. So, please... I've been a member here for over 10 years, a Busse forum mod for over 6...and I assure you that our regular posting members are not "led easily".
They are free thinkers, like you, who caught Cobalt's thread and decided to participate.
Trust me. If we were all "led easily", INFI would have over 500 votes or more by now. ;)

This is General Knife Discussion. Open to all. If no one else wishes to vote (such as yourself), to give a more balanced view in this poll, we should not be faulted for that.

Just imagine Cobalt's thread didn't exist. Do you still think INFI would have even half of the votes it currently does? No, it wouldn't.

Cobalt's thread took it from a GD poll to a GD-and-Busse poll, thereby skewing the results quite noticeably in favor of INFI.

You don't need to convince me that GD is open to everybody, I already know that and agree, but don't keep telling me that the numbers of this poll would be the same without Cobalt's thread, because that is not true.

Oh, and before you decide to use the 'didn't vote, stop whining' argument, I just voted for O1 based on my love of any knife I've owned in O1, including my favorite knife.
