New Benchmade Blackwood 610

Love the handle shape, but the blade shape does not appeal to my eye. Something more like the Neil Blackwood grind that looks and works like magic would make the 610 a masterpiece.

Neil Blackwood is one superbly talented maker/designer!!!

When I saw Blackwood in the title I was envisioning an attractive blade shape...oh, well. I like the handle shape alot, but 6" is way too big. Who's got pockets that deep?(pun unintended!)

It would be awsome if the handle was cut off at the second screw for the clip.In fact how hard would that be to mod??

looks like the clip folds over itself and is a deep carry, you couldn't really cut the handle without making a new clip-or be left with nothing to grab when trying to draw it from a pocket.

I don't find the blade shape especially interesting, but I don't dislike it either....now to decide if I should get the 710 or this....want to try one in real life though.

on knifecenter, it's 50 usd more than BM710...
I'll go for the BM710 !
Proof that everybody has different taste in knves...I like the blade shade but not the handle!

I like the blade shape and the handle. The knife center does not say it is as big. According to their specs it is a little bigger then a 806. But they are prolly wrong and it is just a little to big. They need to make 3.75 version.

IMO, going just from looks, the handle shape puts this in the running as the new king of 4"-bladed defensive folders. That's nearly a full-sized guard on that thing! With the finger grooves, security should be rock solid.
Couple the handle with the axis lock, and it should be a real winner. Yeah, the blade shape isn't fancy, but it's a proven effective shape for just about everything. Although if the handle really is nearly 6" long, that makes it too big for comfortable carry (at least for me) ... bummer. So close, so close!

Guess, we will have to wait one or two years to get the mini.:)

Make it with Ti handles, and price it less than $250, and I'd be all over it. The two tone handles don't appeal to me, but the blade and handle shape are fine. Maybe silver G10 and Carbon fiber would look better. I've still yet to handle a 710 (, yes I know...) so I really don't know if the comparison would make a difference to me. I love my Cuda Maxx, and the LCC D/A I have is no small knife, so maybe the large handles of the 610 wouldn't bother me.

We'll see...

The Handle looks like it would fit like a glove, lots of security in grip in various positions. The blade, although no fancy curves or grinds, looks effective, both practically and tactically. The pocket position, with the clip placement, appears quick and comfortable to extract from the pocket.

Might be a touch large to wip out in the office to open a few letters, but a 3/4 version with a slight recurve in the blade made from M2 would get my credit card excited.

So i wonder if this is the trend to come, Form fitting handles.

I do an dont like it right now, so i will probably like it the more i look at it.

Blade, is straight forward, have no issues with that really.

The colors are a bit bland imho, it needs some spice i thinks.

Sure would like to see a picture of this one beside a well known 710.

Time will tell if this is going to be a hit or not, and may tell me if i really like it or dont, i hope, may have to buy one to satisfy that part.

@ $190, it doesnt seem too badly priced for a knife of this size, materials an workmanship from BM of course.

Well, I still personally really like the knife, but when you can buy an S30V titanium handled Skirmish for 155, the 190 doesn't seem fair.

damn, that's a big knife. I like the ergo grips. But 10" long it is....with stainless liners so it's probably thick as well. Why not titanium?

I think they use steel liners or inserts on all the axis lock knives because a Titanium liner would wear quicker against the steel lock.

I think that knife (610) looks great! Coated blade please! Just wish he hadn't chosen that clip (a la 420). I have a 420 and the skeletonized clip feels kinda flimsy when you grip the knife.

I don't like the handle at all... It looks like a joke to me. Flat-out ugly, to be honest. I like the blade shape - reminds me of a sebbie.
The big reason why I didn't get an Ares is the handle-to-blade ratio... too much handle length for the size of the blade. That's another reason why I'll steer clear of this one.

It's weird to be disappointed in a Benchmade...

Peace.

Thanks for the xmas gift Moms!

Wife's getting me the Harsey T-2 w/french walnut.

XMAS will be great this year!:D

I like it. Gotta give Benchmade credit for cranking out big ol' custom quality folders like this and the 630. Little knives are everywhere so it's nice IMO to see good quality large prod. folders being made.

Yes, but they need replacement bread and butter knives too, like the Ares and AFCK. The handle is growing on me, how about an Auto?

BM shows the blade at 4.3", so that's a wee bit better on the ratio. I can just about see myself getting one, esp. since I have to get a new blade for my 806 and new tang pin for my 42. Seems I have BM on the brain at the moment. Doesn't help that I have a short list of 4 other BMs I want.
