New Benchmade Blackwood 610

I don't think it outshines the AFCK/806 as a defensive design really. On looks alone I'd probably opt for the 806. What that thing needs is a flipper or a wave. And the original henchman pointy point instead of the drop point. But I'm sure gonna try to find one to hold b/c it could still be pretty stellar . . . .

I've been waiting for a bigger AXIS lock knife. Looks like this is it for now. I'd prefer something different than manure green handles...maybe Chaxknives could do something for me.

how about an Auto?

Oh, hell yes.

I like the looks of it for the most part. It looks very grippy but perhaps not as versatile because of the handle shape. I wonder just how much that monster weighs - much over 5 ounces just does get carried as a pocket knife for me.

The retail price I saw was nearly $200, MSRP is $250. That seems about 40% too much for me to spend on this knife - $140 is the most I would consider paying for one.

I certainly hope this is not what BM considers as a replacement for the AFCK.

the BM 610 reminds me more of a TSEK 805. i'm grabbing a 610... just because i like folders on the larger side. :p

Here is another pic (borrowed from EDC Knives)

I really like it. It is on my short list for sure. Seems to me that Benchmade made a great decision by adding Blackwood to their list of designers. The Skirmish was a big hit. This will be as well.

The handles don't look that bad, they look like they're the same color as Microtech's LCC micarta.

It's a good thing it's backed up by an axis lock...the placement of your pointer finger on that knife is in the perfect spot for some serious self-cutting if it were to fail. I want a choil for grip....I really think it's the best way to do a knife at this point....if someone would combine a flipper plus choil grip, it would be an amazing defense folder.

I don't really mind if this replaces the AFCK because I never really got into it.....it was a nice knife, but it didn't seem like anything special to me. I'm really glad Benchmade might be diversifying their lineup....once I bought my bali and my d2 minigrip, I was very satisfied that it was all I needed from Benchmade, with a minor exception here and there.

But now I want one of these....it may be too huge to carry in real life though, so I have to try it out in a store....at that size, it should be roughly as long as my 41MC....meaning there's no way it'll fit in my knife pocket....the para only does just enough as it is.

I like the way it looks. One problem though is the blade & handle length. When folders get bigger than a 3.5" blade I switch to a fixed blade. Maybe they can make a Mini-610 with a 3.5" blade and handle scaled down accordingly.

I like it, although the handle itself looks skinny to me. I think I need a point of refference. Show it next to a 710 or something.
As for the blade, I have no real problem with it. However if this is supposed to be a SD folder, then I would have wanted a recurved blade. I also wish this would carry a bit higher in the pocket. Give a nice bit of handle to grab onto while it's still clipped.
I like, though. I hope to see them come out with some other variations.

I actually designed a system just for that....the flipper just has to be relatively high up on the blade...or, we could have it be long (higher up on the blade still) and have a cutout in the shape of the bar.

high end steel,Axis lock and good handle design but for me the 2 tone scales are a turn -off(all black please!).The blade design reminds me of my Griptilian-a compliment-on steroids and the whole impression? The BM610 is the 2nd incarnation of that other giant defensive/utility folder-REKAT SIFU.I'm sill still "miffed" at BM for discontinuing several of my faves -806D2,Ares(?) but if this 610 is as good as its touted...then it could join my "family"-all black handle though.:grumpy: :D :grumpy:

I wish it had some recurve in the blade. Also wonder how the handle will handle lateral stress (bending on the flats), as my 805 and 806 flex a bit. Rather see one piece scales.

Benchmade has always had issues with not making any knives in the middle.

They always make things way big, or too small. The 705 is just too small for my hands and the 710 scares the crap out of people.

We have forever needed something else like the 721 that had a 3.25" blade.

I agree.. The 710 and 806 are great designs but they are HUGE!!!!
My Ares is good at around 3.5 so I carry that one. But the med. size knives from benchmade are few and far.
