New Benchmade Blackwood 610

Definatly not a suitable replacement for the 806 if that's what BM was thinking. I'm not a fan of Blackwood designs in general, this is more reinforcement of my feelings on the matter! :barf:

Personally i love this knife. I love the handle shape of this knife and seems like it would be very comfortable in the hand, but i fear that the weight and size of it would restrict carrying...along with the price for me.

I handled one at the store today. It made my Commander look like a pup. It wasn't as heavy as I thought it would be, felt good in the hands. A smaller version and I'm in!

Great blade (too big though), but what were they thinking when they designed the handle? Urrrg :barf: !

FWIW I handled one last night, very tight, smooth, and well built. I really still do like the blade on it, very versatile. But...the ergonomics of the handle were simply freakin' awful. Too wide at the tang, and narrow at the rest of the handle. It turned out to be one of those deals that as soon as I'd picked it up I was glad I'd handled one before racing off to order one off the internet.
They're saying it's the largest folder produced by Benchmade to this day. I wasn't impressed.

Needless to say, it won't be replacing my beloved Skirmish any time soon.

I don't much care for the handles, as I think that they are hideous. But, I am sure that the pix don't do it justice.

Just felt this knife today and MAN IS IT HUGE! The handle is thicker than i would have imagined and the handle is long. VERY solid lock up and feeling knife but it is big. I dont think i would be able to carry this knife around in my pocket all day as the weight of it was alot. I may have to invest in one of these when I need a tank of a folder...it will either be a Manix or this when I need a tank.

hmmm 200 for that or 100 for this....................

I played around with one of these at my local brick and mortar yesterday. It is gigantismo for sure. I didn't initially like the small thumbstuds on such a huge knife. Then, I realized that the blade is heavy enough to do easy kinetic openings. The ergonomics aren't so atrocious in my opinion, there is simply a lot of extra handle protruding from your hand when it is open. Also, the handle is quite thick. The opening/closing action is very smooth though.

does anyone own one of these beasts and a digital camera?

almost every shot i have seen of the knife shows a single side. Would like to get pics of the blade, lock, scales spacers etc.

I would consider this one as a great steak knife.

Don´t get me wrong. I am not kidding, but i sometimes think "how would these or that knife look, if used at the table?"

There are some fancy and praised knives out there that would look a bit ridicolous, like sharpened toys. Maybe that 610 would have the appeareance of a stoneaged bone combined with a high tech blade. And maybe it has the appearance of seriousity.

Maybe, if i see this one and can grab it a bit, my opinion may change.

Size does matter.

;)

Oh, i really am glad that BM comes out with a simple but effective blade design. I like that and hope, the 520 will loose it´s back grind aswell.

i edc'd the ambush for a while.i really loved that knife, beautiful blade shape, nice handle, but i hated the lock[cant remember what its called now],gave it to a pal.i was looking for the same thing in an axis.i like the 610[the length dont bother me,it appeals to me] but i feel the blade shape detracts from the overall appearance of the knife.i would have expected a racy looking blade from mr blackwood but maybe benchmade had to keep production costs down.having said that the blade does have a utilitarian shape that would'nt scream "tactical" if a cop pulls u over for a routine search[but with that length it could be a dull butter knife blade and the sheeple will still freak.or any knife for that matter].i still want to edc 1 though

each time i look at pics of this knife i want it more[well we all want it more but i'm referring to the 610].

I just got mine today, gotta love New Graham!

Initial thoughts:

It's a beast, just the way I like them. If I want to carry a tactical I want it big and bad, anything else and I'll stick with my slip joints.

Extremely low riding in the pocket with the folded clip.

Smooth action and the small thumb studs are just fine, once the blade opens 1/2 way gravity takes over. You "flickers" should go nuts over this one.

Excellent Fit and Finish.

Nice tapers throughout the handle, widening at the front and rear. Plently of gripping points for use as an impact weapon when closed. Not that I'll use it for that but you SD guys may like it.

It's big but I'm wearing loose fitting light slacks today and hardly notice it in my pocket.

Only con's I can think of at the moment would be that the black has somewhat of a shiny finish to it, never seen G-10 finished this way. The blade is full sharpened right back to the choil (a good thing), unless you have small fingers hands choking up and putting a finger in front of the guard is not an option. Of course I don't think this was the design intent.

Overall this is a winner and will give my AR a run for it's money on the "biggest balls" for a manual action folder. based on blade inspection I would also expect this to outcut my AR by a strong margin.

Get one.

I got mine today from GPKnives.

It's frigging Huge, but man is this a great knife.

Thick, Beefy... Sharp as all hell!

It reminds me of if Busse collaborated with Benchmade.

Hi, Cpirtle...

Did you say you got your 610 from New Graham ?
I'm checking the site everyday and it's not listed...

I'll try to contact them again...

Yep, $155 too, best price going by far.

It's not on the site yet, I emailed Mike and he had a few that just came in. This was last week though so not sure what they have now.

I emailed New Graham right when it was announced asking to be notified when they arrived so I could purchase one. They said they'd let me know...guess they forgot...

Mike told me their web guy (NGK-Webmaster) has been sick, not sure if he handles the waiting lists but that could be the reason. He also told me it's why they have not been posted on their site yet.

Just lucky timing on my part I guess
