New GEC #13 Congress series (Clerk, Speaker Jack and Whip)

I'm really enjoying my whittler. The size and weight are great. Now I need to work up the courage to sharpen the thing. At least the main blade is flat so if I'm careful I won't scratch it up too bad. Living and learning!

Wow. That looks terrible. Might have been better to call it an Office Knife but just went without the engraving. At least the rest of the knife (F&F wise) is solid.
Yeah, I really like smooth ivory/white bone, but I've been considering trading it for a Clerk with different covers.

The Office Knife's laser dots do look a bit odd but they might actually mellow out once dirt and oil get on the handle from handling & use. Actually, I think the Ivory Bone would've been better served by simply adorning it with an unusual shield, Diamond, Prop, Gimp and you'd have Old School elegance for the office enough!:D

Pity there were no interesting acrylics on this pattern, Tortoise, Dead Skunk, Brown Snake or Church Glass could all have been knockouts.

It is commendable though that GEC try something different.

Thanks, Will

Had a go at sharpening and it turned out pretty well, at least for me. Just a few light scratches, but after stropping it push cuts paper. Next stop the pen blades!

You gotta remember that the bone will wear. I bet after a year in the pocket that its all worn to much smoother transitions.

Anyone else surprised by how pixelated and not crisp the laser etching is? It's not too noticeable from arm length, but close up it is very noticeable. I still think the etch is a great idea, and I love everything else about the knife (bone color, pull and snap on the blades, fitting/construction) but I wish it was closer to the look of engraving. Still a winner!

Interesting. I see a lot of extra dots, enough to wonder if it's on purpose? It sort of reminds me of an old needlepoint pattern. The only old Office knives I've seen were Delrin or French Ivory, and I assumed the design on those was done with a heated stamp, like the Schrade "skrimshaw" style. Anyway, I don't hate it.

Just received my 2 Whips . One had a Whip Button with it and the other one did not . Random insert I guess . The one shown in the top position is always the same one .

Shown with their brother the Whittler

A top down view to show the Stag thickness and to compare that with the Whittler .

And to show how they fit in the suggested Slip by Mike
Pretty happy over-all with the ones that I got.

Looks good! I'm struggling with which one(s) of my #13s will become users and see a sharpening/re-profile.

Looking good Harry! I still don't get the buttons? I have 7 13's, no buttons? Not complaining. I really don't care, but what are the odds?

Some beautiful stag, Alan & Alan :) and Harry!

ALLHSS, I love the Office Knife. I don't expect anyone (but us knuts on here) to look at the laser engraving thru a 10x loupe! :D

Didn't think to take Before pics... catfish & bream blood patina. And my homebrew dye job. I was shooting for the old Case XX Redbone color.

Not bad, but no cigar. ;)

I've been carrying my Clerk Office Knife since I got it and I'm convinced. Definitely a keeper. I'm guessing the laser etching will look better with time/wear/carry.

Your dye job looks great! Well done.

The pen blades were tougher to sharpen! But all the blades are now done, stropped, re-oiled and the knife is ready to go. :)
