New GEC #13 Congress series (Clerk, Speaker Jack and Whip)

These are all looking great guys!

I can finally make a valid contribution to this thread. My one and only 13 was waiting for me when I got home. As I've said, this is also my first knife in stag.

It's a sweet knife! The somewhat thick slabs make it feel a little beefier than I was expecting, but I'm sure I'll warm up to that. The stag is pretty well matched as well. It does look like I'll need to take a hair off the kick, but I'll just wait and see if the slightly proud tip bothers me first.

That is a great looking knife.

Just curious, which blade configurations do you like best?

They are each nice in their own way, but I think I'd say the Clerk. The wharncliffe is a very handy blade, and it looks like it sits a bit lower in the frame than the sheepfoot whittlers.

You done good! If you like the feel of the thicker stag, then you got one you like! My stag Clerk is kind of thin, but I like that. Nice looking piece Sad 🤙🤙🤙

Yes they are, I would say the whittler is my least favorite. But I don't usually care for multiblades (More than two) . I really like wharncliffes too for daily chores. It's a super effective letter opener[emoji57]

I do think you're right, the clerk , and speaker blades do sit lower. I'm away from home, so don't all 7 of my 13's at hand. So I cannot confirm that. Btw, I'm still trying to figure out how I ended up with 7 of them?

It is indeed a sweet knife. Nice choice on that stag, SadSappySucker! I genuinely hope that exposed tip doesn't cause you too much trouble because that is a nice knife with exceptional stag. Neither of my two #13s have that problem.
Also, thanks AShearer, I remember seeing your excellent array of #13s and they sure are cool!

Thanks guys. I actually didn't pick this one. Mike picked it for me, because I knew I'd be working when the selection process was going on. So I had no idea what the stag would look like. I'm already warming up to the thicker stag. It's still not my preference, but it's hard to focus on that one minor detail when everything else was done SOOO right! I mean seriously, this is one of the nicest finished knives I've had the luxury of handling. And boy are the pulls smooth!
Now I've got to decide if I'm going to jump on trying to find one in ebony. My logical side is saying no ones enough; but every other part of me is screaming do it!:D

You got a nice one Erik !!!! Fat Stag with pretty short transitions into the bolsters and good color . Glad to see you got a SLIP for it too . You will not regret that my friend . Really glad to see that you finally got a Stag .

I've bottomed out on pretty much the gambit of #13s. There are two variations that work for me and they are the Speaker Jack and Clerk. Here's why..... The whittler's main blade is too short and also subject to rub when you open the two secondary blades. The Whip is nice and thin but also is thin in the hand and the blade is slightly more narrow than in the Clerk. The Speaker Jack benefits from the hight of the sheeps foot blade so it is more pinchable than the others. So in the end I would rate them as 1) Speaker Jack, 2) Clerk, 3) Whip, and 4) Whittler. What's your opinion?

Those BladeForums 13s from 2013 are stunning... so clean, and the fluted bolsters look right at home on this pattern. The Whip and Clerk in ebony are as classy as it gets. I did purchase the new Clerk "Office Knife," and am awaiting its arrival.

These are all great photos, fellas! Tomsch, you have an outstanding collection of 13s!

Yes the BladeForums #13 is at the top of the list for multiple reasons. All of the #13 variations are great!

7 is a lot. :D
I like multibladed knives, I prefer them without blade shape redundancy. I really like the modifications that WhittlinAway did on his whittler: turning one of the pen blades into a coping.

+1 what Harry said.

I can't disagree. Nevertheless, I prefer one or two blades. The Speaker and Clerk are great examples of my preference. Then again, I really can't do modifications. I don't have the tools or space.

So, do you whittle?

A wittle bit. ;)
When whittling, it's nice to have a blade selection that includes a pointy blade, a curved edge, and a straight edge. A Stockman can work, but I think the Whittler pattern is more elegant.

Now that I think about it, I could imagine modifying the second pen blade into a small clip. That would give a nice selection of blade profiles.

I could see that. Okay. I can't whittle, or at least I have not really tried. I do agree the whittler is more elegant than a stockman. Stock,en are great if you can use all those blades, I guess ?

Well the slip was an after thought. I had read where you mentioned verdigris(?), and I got to thinking I wanted to do everything I could to prevent it. I ended up adding one to my order last minute. I'm not usually a slip guy, but I already intended on babying this one so no big deal.

Great collection! I have to say I think the ebony NF Speaker has to be my favorite configuration. There just seems to be nice symmetry with the long sheepsfoot. The classy look is further accentuated with the long pull and lined bolsters.

That being said, I think the Office Knife might be the most special. I love the script. Below are my only two 13s (sorry, for the hazy photo - should have waited for daylight). I was really thinking about getting a Whip too, but I have some 48s on reserve I need to pay for.

MIDTN, very nice knife. I hope that the one I ordered arrives nearly as nice as yours.

Well, I'm having Muslin Micarta envy. I mean, sure, I got the Whittler in the Muslin Micarta, but I didn't get a Speaker Jack, or a Clerk, or a Whip in Muslin Micarta, which means I really only took advantage of 25% of the available Muslin Micarta goodness. Hmmm...
