New guy from France knife contest

Welcome to the forums, but rememeber I warned you once you get hooked there is no way out of this place. I found BF a couple of years ago, and I have wasted way too much of my time in the place. There is all the information you could ever want to know about knives in the archives, use the search function and it is amazing what you can find out.

What to know about Talonite? Technically, due to its minimal iron content, it is not a steel. Talonite's composition is approximately as follows:

C 1.05%
Cr 29.86%
Fe 2.64%
Mn 1.44%
Mo .07%
Ni 2.46%
P <.01%
S <.01%
Si .58%
W 3.85%

Its remaining balance of roughly 58% is Cobalt.

Do I win the prize?!? :D

Welcome Marsot!!!

I dont speak a lick of french, and I dont have any talonite knives. I do, however, like French Fries, and Opinel knives. Does that count for anything?

Anyway, glad you've joined us. Read and learn!

You have just entered into a wealth of information about anyhing you want to know about knives. Read, digest, learn.

Bonjour Marsot! Comment ca va?

Allez, Come to belgium and we'll have a good pint!

BTW, (this not to be commecrcial :D) there is a knifeshow in Gembloux in November, it's in French, and I'll do my best to speak french once again ! And then I'll buy you a beer.

From where in France are you anyway? We might organize a meeting some day since the French knifemakers guild is no more and the Belgian Guild excepts anyone who has something to do with knives (actually we have more fun then we actually do things with knives, but who cares ? )

Greetz, Bart>

P.S. what's in my signature is no joke.. I like to get mails, as long as you can accept english ones back, since I can't really write french too good, but I can read it perfectly, same with German.

Welcome! To learn all you need to learn, use the search button. It has become invaluable to me! Almost everything I have wanted to ask has already been adressed, so I just search and see what comes up. If nothing comes up for your search, post a thread and I'm sure the gentlemen here will help you out.

This really is a great place to talk knives. Enjoy!

Welcome French knife guy!.:).

I have a question...Are French fries called "French fries in France, or are they just "fries" in France? And how about "French Toast"? Or "French Dip"?

Do yourself a big favor, and buy only one knife. Otherwise, you will be thought of as a "collector", or worse yet, an addict.:).

BTW...Thank-You for helping me win this contest!.:D.

Welcome New Guy from France!
I'm sure you will enjoy your stay here as much as i am. :) Check out balisongs, you'll love them. :D

Greatings new guy from france. Yes, opinels are great but they lack a lanyard hole :(.
From what i've seen Rob Simonich makes great knives from talonite but alas i believe he's transcended taking orders.

Hey French Guy, Marsot:

Welcome to BF! (BF stands for...Blades for Frenchies!)

Anyway, there's a French guy around here named Nemo, and Nemo is friends with another French guy named Fred Perrin. You might want to look them up because they know more about knives than most mere mortals. Fred is a famous knifemaker in France (or so he says), and he makes some really great blades. You can probably purchase them very inexpensively from Fred there in France and sell them to us stupid American guys for mucho profit. This is the best advice that I have to offer. Besides, Nemo and Fred probably live right down the street from you.

Oh, and Talonite is cool stuff. Buy a Chimera from D.C. Munroe, or buy one of those ventilated TnT's from Tom Mayo. Give Mayo a watch and he'll give you a knife; he's strange like that.

Bonjour Marsot!

One nice thing about Talonite is that the maker doesn't have to have it heat treated. Grind the blade, finish it, put a handle on, and you've got a knife.

Dear Marsot: You cannot buy any talonite because me and rob and will want it all......if you try and go behind our backs we will waste Tom W. and that will be the end of it for everyone....
PS-same goes if I dont win this contest....so look out!! :(
oh...I meant to say: WATCH out!! :)
:p

Hi French Guy From France,Marsot,etc.,etc.,
First, you'll need to change your username to just one name since you now have too many:( Lets see,Frenchy might work.Don't let other people ask questions for you, they end up twisting your question around and it looses its meaning. Finally, read these forums carefully, there are contests hidden in some of the posts:D

I have to answer this one :D. As shocking as it might seem, "French fries" (we call them simply "frites") are not from France but from Belgium. I have absolutely no clue why they are called "French" I hope it won't stop you eating them ;)
