New guy from France knife contest

Aloha Marsot. Welcome to Blade Forums.
This is a great place with many great individuals from all over the world. A common bond, our passion for knives, brings us all together. You will meet some very knowledgable individuals here, and make some good friends.
Aloha nui loa, hope to see you again my friend.:)

Hey, Ugly Jim,

A gentleman as always. That is the Paul Reynolds knife, isn't it?

The idea was to have a highly functional knife that was also beautiful but that would not bother an airport security guard. A gentleman's pocketknife. Personally I think the artist took some big chances with the material and design but he made them work beautifully. That's why we buy the knives but let the artist do what they wish with the design.

Tom

Hello Marsot,

The best tip that Icould give would be to resist the temptation to buy cheap, imitation knives.

If you're new to knives in general, you'll be thinking that 'genuine' knives are just too pricey. NOT SO!

Read through the forums and you'll see that the performance for these knives more than justifies the price.

see ya

Hey Frenchman!

Welcome to the forums and have a great time!

One of the long time members of this place is called Flava and he is from Paris - maybe you can ask him to learn more about these forums.

Anyway - as to talonite - still haven't got my first knife made of this wonder material - but you can find most any kind of info about it and other steels here:

http://www.matweb.com/

I almost feel related to you because my neighbor's wife's brother's mother-in-law's sister once visited France.

Welcome to BladeForums!.

Hello Frenchie, the best thing to know is that the addiction never goes away and you have choosen to be a very poor man.

Oh yeah and stay away from Vampire Gerbil;) .

Welcome to BF, one of the most enjoyable places I've found on the net. Tons of information [daily, and in the search engine], interesting debates, pictures of drop-dead-gorgeous knives, and pretty much a guaranteed laugh whenever VG or Razor are around. :D A great community of folks who're very generous with their knowledge and insights.

Hi there

Some moons ago I was "the new guy from South Africa", but back in those days they didn't quite roll out the red carpet with such style ;)

If you're looking at Talonite then I assume that you already have a couple of knives. Really great from the articles I've read (never seen it myself). Also note there's a cheaper 154cm option that is available from 1SKS.

Welcome to the forums. You're going to love it and you're going to wake up with the sweats at night, having nightmares about spending money that you don't have on the next knife, and the next knife and....

Welcome Sir, I hope you enjoy talking with Americans addicted to knives and knife collecting. I have no chance of winning as I am a Newbie knife collector. I am here because of the good graces of the fine people on these Boards willing to teach me about the art of knives. I have no clue what a French knife even looks like as I am still learning what is the most complex "hooby" one can get ADDICTED to. But I would love to add one to my very humble collection as I am still at that stage where I can only afford production knives. I am here to listen to the masters and learn, learn, learn so one day I can begin a REAL custon knife collection. One of the best ways I know how I can learn about French made knives is to own one and to study it, hold it, caress it, and care for it and then I will have earned my very first REAL collectible knife.
Again welcome and Thank you for the opportunity....wolf

Dear FNG from FR,

Don't bother with Talonite. Just get a Spyderco Wegner full size. It's the only folder you'll need. (Now, fixed blades, that's a different story ;))

Hey Newcomer...don't let these guys empty your wallet - a used Buck 110 will cut anything you need cut! (Have fun!!!)

It looks like I wasn't "Southernen Hospitabable" enough, er maybe not authentic enough...

So...

"Howdy Frenchy, kick yer boots off n set a spell..."

Be damned when I try to be safistikated...

FNG alert!! French New Guy this time tho!:D
Welcome, welcome. This is THE place to learn about talonite. If you have a question ask it. The guys around here love questions...even ones they don't know the anwsers to.:)

I ordered the knives from Will Fennel at Camillus a couple days ago. The contest ends when the knives come in.

Tom

P.S. I assume that the folks who advise against buying a Talonite knife won't mind winning one.

Hi Tom, Bonjour Marsot, Hi everybody,

Knives? you mean there's more then one to win?

If I keep entering these contests at this rate statistically I should have won at least one by the time I'm 60 :D

Well, as they say, if you don't enter you can't win. Besides Tom Walz, Rob Simonich, and Will Fennel are all pretty good guys, so...

Welcome to the Forums, bud. :)

Jack

I'm likin' my odds!

Hey New Guy From France! Bonjour! Welcome to the Boards! As far as Talonite, best blade material for an EDC (Every Day Carry) I have found. Just keeps on cutting. I like my Mayo TNT (Talonite aNd Titanium) for an EDC.
