New guy from France knife contest

Bonjour M. Marsot a BladeForums,
Je suis un peut nouveau aussi; bienvenue.
Bonne chance!!!
Rob

Pleased to meet you, Marsot!

Hope you're enjoying the forums. I've been hanging around here for almost a year now and it is a fun group of people as well as a great source of information. It amazes me how much I've learned.

I think that Talonite is great stuff, but I am not yet convinced that it's time to give up on the steel alloys. If you intend to use a blade in an environment where rust is likely to be an issue Talonite and the Stellite variants make a lot of sense. Otherwise I think you can still do better with top-end steel. I prefer 440V for pure cutting and BG-42 or D2 for toughness.

Of course, one of the nice things about modern metallurgy is that we can argue about such small differences in performance. Any of the better alloys, steel or otherwise, are more than good enough for most uses.

Welcome to the BladeForums!

Welcome Marsot. After it's all said and done the best thing to do (if you can afford it) is buy a blade in Talonite and experiment w/ it yourself. You results may vary depending on what you cut on a daily basis. And it's another excuse for a new knife! Enjoy the forums.

Tomwalz, the guys who "advise" against talonite can't afford it, but they certainly would LOVE to own such a knife :D

Hey Mr Walz,

Who won??? I wanna congratulate the lucky bastid! :D
Or is shipping in the US that slow - can't beat belgian shipping sometimes 2 months for a knife :D - ?

My dear friend,

This is one place where you can ask the most ordinary question and receive the most profound answers.

After a while, you will come to the conclusion that if only the United Nations were founded on the same philosophy and principles, there won't be any need for a Security Council.

Peace Be With You.

Dear New Guy From France,

Hi, I don't know any French, so a "Hello" from the USA is the best I can do.

Sincerely, New Guy from the USA:)

Greetings FNGFF ("Freaking New Guy From France"):

Welcome to BF. Here's the scoop.

Talonite comes from alien spaceship technology acquired by the US government during the Roswell, NM sightings back in the 1960s. You need a Talonite blade, for when the mothership returns, your possession of this superior substance will be your only chance of being recognized as a superior intelligence.

You heard it here first.

Est-ce q'il y a un gagneur?
Choisi moi! Choisi moi!!!

Roughly (and I do mean roughly!) translated...
Is there a winner?
Pick me! Pick me!!!
(or did I miss it?)
Rob

Comeon Bobby B!!!! Gimme a chance!!! Hey new guy from france. Love the new cars you make over here in the USA. We call them FORDS......wolf:p

Hello, knife-folk, I am a neophyte in your midst. Brother Tom Walz has asked me to act as his representative for a short while, until he recovers from a horrific, extremely debilitating case of the "News".
(New Software, New Equipment, New Business, New Computers, the list is endless.....) And, until he recovers, I will attempt in the interim to be his voice in the wonderful world of Blade Forums. Large shoes to fill? Without a doubt. Will I succeed? Might...,
with your help. A bit about me; not a real knife person, maker or collector, but bought a WWII surplus Canadian bayonet when I was 12 or so, that I was totally in awe of, went thru the throwing dagger phase a couple of years after that, until my parents discovered all the holes in the back of the wood shed (and came up with another use for the wood shed), and had a terrific Case Knife in the Navy. Now just have a Leatherman in my briefcase and a mini-SAK on my key chain. Don't get me wrong, I love knives, I'm just not IN love with them. But that doesn't make me a bad person, right? Right? However, I've seen and hefted Talonite Cuda's made by Camillus and Rob Simonich, and I gotta tell ya people, I'm IMPRESSED. They have this sort of lethal beauty that's hard to describe, but sure can be felt. So maybe I'm in love a little bit.
Anyway, about the contest. Yes, it's still on, and I will be contacting "le homme Francaise" soon to tell him of his good fortune.
And then we will pluck another name from the old hat and THAT person will be wielding the "Alloy of Champions". So stay tuned, there's more to come. Thanks for your attention, please let me know when I
get too verbose, and have a good weekend. (Hi, Dr. Walt, it's me)

Welcome to the forums!!!

Don't worry about filling Tom'w shoes. I could smell hsi shoes all they way here in Alberta, Canada, so please wear your own!

Oh, and please don't use words like "verbose", as they are too... um... not knifey-like! Knife-like is o.k., bastid is a must, BUTT is used to bring a message Back Up To Top (thanks Timmy!) and if you are willing to praty wit da mankeys, you'll do fine here!

(we are in love with knives, yet not a very serious crowd! Have fun while you're here!)

Welcome Marsot,

I hope your wanderings and conversations here bring you much insight and pleasure. Personally I have always found Bladeforums a great source of knowledge and advice. And a great place to greet others with a discerning interest in sharp things. I hope you get as much from it as I do.

Best Regards,

James

Welcome my friend. Mes amis in this forum are fine humans. Here is advice to live by.

1. Never question how great a Sebenza is. This is trolling.
2. When people here talk about "cutting the cheese" is the only time they are NOT referring to a knife.
3. DA is not German for yes.
4. You missed your chance to trade a Battle Mistress for several ghillie suits. Quelle domage.
5. Yes you can sell knives here as an individual for a small fee. Just don't BTTT too often.
6. BTTT means revenez au dessus de la liste. It is to be used "avec prudence"
7. Automatic knives can be bought MANY ways from many people on these forums. Just don't ask your questions in a post saying "où puis-je acheter les couteaux automatiques bon marché?"
8. Not too many smilies.

maintenant, voulez vous acheter mes couteaux?

Boneswear Amigo.

When working on any knife,IE: Cleaning, polishing, sharpening etc, ALWAYS hone it to a razors edge LAST!!!!!!

The results are in, and as soon as we get an address from Marsot, his Camillus Talonite Mini-'Cuda will be on its way to him.

And the second winner is (Drum-roll, please.....) "The MAGICIAN"!

Both have been e-mailed and we hope to hear from each soon.

We really had fun with this and wish to thank all participants for their contributions, plus hope to have another contest in the not too distant future.

Again, our sincere appreciation to everyone.

valsetz
(for Tom Walz)

Cong-Rats!!! The Magician pulled the Talonite rabbit out of his ......hat...
Sorry, Wolfmann601, I was pulling for you the whole time!!!;)
