New Light!

I like the D-20. Its too long for EDC though. It rides in my manbag. Its bright, and has the good interface. I can't believe the light you can get for your $ nowadays.

I'll have to look into these Malkoffs. I'm wondering what they drop into? If they drop into maglites, then I'm sold. My maglites are just worthless now that I have LED's around. If you take my D10 outside and shine it at the woods, then turn the maglite on, the weak yellow beam is laughable. It does throw far though. You can vaguely make things out near or far.

Kyp,

This Eagle-Tac light throws 220 lumens ( https://www.eagletac-store.com/product_info.php?cPath=103&products_id=607 ) If you're willing to go 2x CR123 the Eagle Tac light throws 295 lumens!!!

There is a light people rave about. The Olight M20. 220 lumens. But its around 100 bucks.

And for $130 you can get a 700 lumen light from Wayne at Electrolumens

Some Malkoff drop-ins are designed to work in Maglites, but the their highest performers are designed for SureFire and flashlights compatible with SureFire's P60 assemblies. There is no reason to pay for a rare and expensive Malkoff unless you have a SureFire. Just go and buy a whole new light for the same price and 1/4 the size and weight of a Maglite... The Malkoff's top of the line product, the M60 LED module, is compatible with the SureFire G2, 6P, 6PD, G3, 9P, C2, C3, M2, Z2 and G2Z.

Got my D10 yesterday. What a great light! Perfect size for keychain carry for me. My Fenix P3D Q5 just became my wife's flashlight :) She loves my hand-me-downs.

Awesome!! At least your wife is willing to carry one. I can't get my wife to do that.

I just ordered a 6P (used cpf marketplace) for 45 bucks. I'll give those a Malkoff's a shot!

Thanks,

Andy

Andy,

I'm glad you started this thread. :) I immediately ordered a D10.

My hunting buddy was just showing me his new $17 hardware store LED flashlight the other night when we were coming out of the woods in the dark after a bow hunt. It is short and fat and uses 3 AAAs in plastic holder inside the barrel. The beam is fairly bright and has a distracting multi-colored fringe.

This morning, while headed out duck hunting, we saw the glowing eyes of some deer in a field where he'd seen a big buck a few times. I told him to slow down and I'd shine my new flashlight out the window so we could see the deer. I pulled out the D10 and told him it ran on one AA cell. He almost choked when I lit up the deer out in the field.

What a great light! Today, I used it in an elastic headband designed for holding a Mini-Maglight. I bought the headband years ago but never used it because it was VERY uncomfortable with a Mini-Maglight hanging on it. It is perfect for the D10.

I used to use my Black Diamond Icon headlamp for hunting. It's a fantastic light, but it's big and bulky compared to the little D10/headband combo. I also question the Icon's waterproofness; dropping a light into the water is a real possibility on a duck hunt. The little D10 is my new favorite.

Oh, and wait until you get your hands on a 200+ lumens thrower at about the same price and just an inch or so longer!:thumbup:

You're obviously referring to my Jetbeam II I.B.S. At 220 lumens, with a great flood light and good spot, it can turn night into day in a way I've never seen before.

Plus, with three light levels, it's easy to have exactly what I need with just a couple of presses. I have mine set at about 10%/50%/100%, and it works fabulously. I've never had a light like this for camping use, or even just around the house. I can flood the woods with light, spot light the tops of trees 200 feet away, or comfortably read in bed.

Great light.

Now if there was a 2 cell version with even more power/runtime, that could also use rechargeables -- that would be amazing! This light is almost too short in my hand, though the size is good for a pocket.

Guess I'll just have to keep waiting and reading reviews on CPF. The Dereelights looked good, but they either don't focus, have the multiple settings, battery combination I want, or have unpleasant PWM at the lower modes.

Now thats just cool right there. I haven't had a chance to get out into the woods with it yet. I need to do that soon!! Can't wait to see a deer with mine!

Great post. Glad you like the light.

It's sad that my P3D Q5 lights up a field better than my 1,000,000 candle power flood light thing I got from Coleman. If they made a light the size of that flood with an array of Q5's in it.... it'd be as bright as the sun. It'd probably melt the trees you were trying to light up.

That just sounds really cool. "Watch iss," and the tree melts.

Nice!:p:thumbup:

I ordered a D20, and it showed up yesturday. The purpose of the D20 was to replace 2 lights in my kit, the surefire 6P LED for a spot light and the Petzel tika head light. The high setting output is comparable to the 6P, with a larger hot spot equating into less throw. The low setting is more than enough to see in the woods with out destroying night vision. I had a old head rig from a mini mag, that works perfectly as a make shift head light. The best part of all is the standardization of AA batteries. The high setting will eat batteries in 1.5 hours, but realistically, you don't need that much light for a long period of time, and with the user interface, the amount of light can be adjusted to fit a specific level of brightness needed for different tasks.

Thank you Andy for the suggestion.

I just got my D10 in the last couple of days. MAN I love it. Sinks into my pocket and I don't even notice it. I love the switch settings, the only thing I wish it had was an emergency strobe function. I'll probably never need it, but I'd love to have it still. It's incredibly light especially with a lithium battery.

I wish the Nitecores had a strobe also, but some guys hate the strobe. I have a lot of fun with strobe. Ever P'd with a strobe light on? Neato.

Pics of a few lights: D10, D20, Kingpower K1 (1x aa), and LumaPower Incindio (1x cr123)

The Nitecore Defender infinity has a strobe, too bad the D series doesn't have them. I find the strobe very useful and had actually used it in emergency situations.

nice lights fiddle, hey we should start a sticky with lights we think are good for wilderness, and EDC buming, the ones that are kinda under the radar.

My D10 has been in my pocket sense I got it about a month now. Truly is a great light. I just got a good deal on a Fenix T1 from Lighthound It's a tough light that would be worth having with just the normal 60 Lumen mode ( It's more like 50) for 10 hours. let alone the 225 lumen turbo mode.

My Fenix has the strobe, if you catch someone not expecting it, it will make them turn away out of reflex. My engine crew tested it on each other at work one night :D However, a dedicated attacker will just head towards the lightsource.

I am really considering the D10 as an XMAS gift for the wife. I am really happy with my Fenix, but I think she would be better served with the Nitecore (it really does look like a pretty sweet light). I am just not quite sure she would carry it at first, or else it would get dropped in the purse and never be heard from again... (echo echo echooooooooo)

And the 'Innova' brand sold at Target is where in the sceme of AA lights these days? A 1 or 2 battery type light would be my choice.

And on the Maglight AA, what would be the best retrofit for the light/battery life/value that you can find? It's perfectly good but I think a quality LED retrofit would give increased burn time, brighter light, longer throw, and not be as expensive as spending say $60 on a new AA light.

I bought an LED conversion kit for my MiniMaglight at Dick's. I don't think it was worth the money. I would guess there are better options out there for MiniMaglight conversions, but maybe not. I did buy a Cree LED conversion for my SureFire 6P from the big auction site and it is a noticeable improvement.

The little Nitecore D10 is incredible. $60 is a lot more money than most people are willing to spend on a flashlight. But if you use a flashlight regularly (I'm an avid hunter and spend a lot of time in the predawn and evening dark) I believe it is well worth it.

Desmobob ok fair enough, would any of the Innova brand be worth buying at say $20 to replace the AA Maglight? The 420 is about what I see some of those 'Niteze' LED mag kits going for...
