New Light!

Kewl. I think I'll wind up using a lot of these rechargable AA's. Lithiums are $$. A battery powered Kyak depth finder huh? Now thats something!

A dry fit pic of one of my homemade power packs (PVC and assorted nuts, bolts, and springs)...

The whole gizmo operationalized... :p

That's a real sharp looking light, and cheaper then I was expecting.
Flashlights are really one area where I am lacking in knowledge.

Good Lord!! That must be a lot of fun when you snag a fish! What are you fishing for there? I notice that there is no spare room for a wife on that ship. Hmm. Very interesting!

Thats cool! That means you have a lot you can learn. The great thing about the new lights is that there are a bunch of them that are really nice, and also priced right.

No more! Don't tell us about any more! Please (yes, do)!

My wallet is starting to feel very neglected. None of its friends like Alexander, Andrew and Ulysses stick around long enough to strike up a good conversation...

Hybrid/Striped bass and/or white bass. The rods have down lines with a 2 oz. lead, a leader, and a live shad (bait).

Andy, there's a big kayak fishing club near you. The "plastic navy" fishes regularly on Lanier for striped bass. I've fished with that crowd a time or two.

Check out some of the General Fishing Reports on that forum. Those guys catch some really big stripers down that way.

Quick question for all you light experts. I was the store today and saw a package of Energizer "ultimate lithium" batteries. Are these the same as the e2's that I've previously bought or are they different somehow? I'm not much of a battery expert but I do realize that today's new high performance l.e.d lights operate much better when powered with something other than standard alkalines. And, since Fiddleback started all this crap and I should be receiving my D10 tomorrow or Thursday, I would like to compare run times and brightness between the 2 batteries.

Oh, the reason I asked if they were the same battery, my local Sams club had 12 packs of the "ultimate lithiums" marked at 13.99 - I'm sure that was a mismark. - I bought 2.

Just a quick update: I went for a short walk here down my driveway a few minutes ago, to see how the throw was on my D10 (I live a bit off the road; it's about a furlong* out to my mailbox). On max output, this thing is just amazing. I'm probably biased by it being my first quality light, but WOW! I can light up the tops of trees a good 150-200 feet away well enough to make out squirrel nests. The beam is pretty tight, but not too tight, with good flood as well as spot. That 130 lumens is more intense than I'd imagined or realized.

The low level is, as I'd thought, indeed great for getting around without losing night vision. I've tended to keep it set at around 15-25% though, just for a little more light, but that's plenty to navigate with and still have a little reach without being blindingly bright. I love the versatility of this little light. It's no bigger than my SAK, and rides well in the same pocket.

My one complaint is a small one, and concerns ramping: when you ramp down from say halfway to minimum, then jump to maximum, then press and hold to ramp back down again, nothing happens as it just reverses the ramping direction as per usual. You have to press and hold for a second, release, then press and hold again to ramp back down. Same for the opposite. It would be nice if it intuitively recognized that you were already at the end of the line, and automatically ramped down from max, or up from minimum, regardless of which direction you last went.

...I probably made a mess of that explanation. And since the technology in this light is so incredible as it is, I'm not really 'complaining' as such. I love this thing too much... :D

*If you know what that is in feet without looking it up, you get a free e-cookie of your choosing.

Kyp, I understand whay you're saying. The user interface with this light is a lot better that most of the others. Spend a little more time with it and it will feel like second nature.

These are great lights!

Oh, and wait until you get your hands on a 200+ lumens thrower at about the same price and just an inch or so longer!:thumbup:

I absolutely, positively have to get one of those orange Farmers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kyp, you hit on what is just about the only complaint I've heard about this interface. They fixed that on the new model (2AA, D20).

I haven't really been bothered by it yet.

Glad you like it. Take your old maglite outside and do a side by side. Truly mind blowing!! That light is so much brighter than a 3D maglite it'll amaze you.

Hey Fiddleback, how is the D20? I'm thinking of getting this light. I have the first version of the Nitecore Defender Infinity, and I really like it. I'm surprised the Malkoff drop in modules have not been mentioned yet. If you are amazed by Nitecores you be blown away by the Malkoffs.

Aye, I'm getting used to using it as a momentary-switch light now. Already thinking of hunting up a faster battery charger, too. :D

I hate to ask, 'cause I know it's just going to cost me more money, but... A 200+ lumens thrower at the same price? What might this be?

Dangit, now I want a Romisen for my mother, and a Fenix E01 or a Gerber Tempo for my keychain...

Yeah, once I get used to it, I'm sure it won't bother me. I love pretty much every other aspect of this light, and really couldn't have wished for a better EDC light. Thanks again for starting this thread, Andy.

Can't wait till the pocket clip comes out. Hopefully 4sevens will have them in by the time I get back from the beach.

I like the D-20. Its too long for EDC though. It rides in my manbag. Its bright, and has the good interface. I can't believe the light you can get for your $ nowadays.

I'll have to look into these Malkoffs. I'm wondering what they drop into? If they drop into maglites, then I'm sold. My maglites are just worthless now that I have LED's around. If you take my D10 outside and shine it at the woods, then turn the maglite on, the weak yellow beam is laughable. It does throw far though. You can vaguely make things out near or far.

Kyp,

This Eagle-Tac light throws 220 lumens ( https://www.eagletac-store.com/product_info.php?cPath=103&products_id=607 ) If you're willing to go 2x CR123 the Eagle Tac light throws 295 lumens!!!

There is a light people rave about. The Olight M20. 220 lumens. But its around 100 bucks.

https://www.4sevens.com/product_info.php?cPath=86&products_id=543

And for $130 you can get a 700 lumen light from Wayne at Electrolumens
