Attention New measures to stop scams and dishonest behavior in the Exchange

This is what makes it so difficult. They’re controlling known accounts with years of positive feedback, and are even going through and reading posts and messages in the account to get a feel for how the user typed and what they’re doing or selling.

They almost got me on a custom knife I was having made but what threw me off was the knife maker asked for a rushed payment late at night because of “material costs”. I thought it was odd so I didn’t respond, but the scammer knew I was working with this member to have a knife made and tried to get me to pay him through DM.
As a buyer you can choose to only use G&S. That's what I do.

I wish I lived in Tennessee which is literally 30 seconds down the street but I live on the Virginia side and the gifts and services kill me in taxes.

This is one of the main reasons I always provide step by step packing pictures and label creation with drop off receipt. I know I said this before but it doesn’t take nothing to offer this to every buyer. I feel like it’s only fair to go above and beyond for someone purchasing anything from you. I get it if some sellers don’t have time to do anything other than send tracking but it protects everyone really. plus it shows you value your buyer!

I’m ok with rule number 1. It’s an easy thing to do.
However not being able to edit posts poses multiple concerns and would ask to reconsider based on the following concerns:

1. If a seller finds an error in the listing it’s impossible to fix and may lead to more disagreements and confusion.

2. It will most likely lead to more work for the mods by fielding requests to modify, as well as mediating the afore mentioned disagreements.

3. Sales posts with multiple knives listed will require potential buyers to comb through multiple comments to determine if a knife is sold or available.

I would suggest that you allow editing of the posts but require the price be in the heading and lock the heading content. And if possible incorporate a “tag” option to the post to mark it sold with an indicator in the forum list or heading content.

I do respect the effort to incorporate more security in the site, but a little common sense, diligence and vetting is the best security. I have many transactions here and on other platforms and have yet to be scammed or hacked.

Also curious as to whether we can edit the thread title after 30 minutes. I always did this and it makes it easy to see SOLD right in the title and avoid having to scroll through the replies just to see it's already sold.
Thanks for helping keep the scammers down!

Did I miss the answer to this? Can the title be edited after the time limit?

I don't believe so. Post in the sale thread in BOLD that the item is sold or no longer available...as well as any changes in price along the way.
This will allow prospective buyers to see most recent status.

If I'm in error, someone will correct me.

I do hate to say this, but would there be a way to make the Knife Exchange private unless you have a paid subscription? Just from what I have gathered looking at some of the selling posts, and now including mine, sellers are now having to put on there that we will not directly email you or text you. I might change mine to say I will only reply to someone that has replied they have DM'd me in the post and I will reply directly this way.

Only PAID MEMBERS should have privilege for access to the Knife Exchange.

This is how the green forum does it and while obviously on a much smaller scale, it seems to have the desired effect there.

Everyone needs to know that the forum platform was never designed as a sale platform, so Spark only has so many options to make things work as needed. There can be no perfect solution, so we will all need to adjust to the current realities.

1 & 2
Spark said, "The For Sale areas now have a time limit on editing posts of 30 minutes,"
So you have 30 minutes to find an error in the sales post. If you find that you have entered erroneous information after that, Report the thread, and a mod can edit it. (Seriously, how often do you find an actual error later than 30 minutes after posting?) If it is just missing data, you can just add it in another post.

3.
For threads with multiple knives you can post summary posts as things sell.

Spark Spark the post edit time limits do not seem to be working across all areas. I just observed a post (OP) in the individual gadgets and gear for sale area that was made on Monday but edited today. I saw this elsewhere today too, but cannot recall where it was. Just FYI.

knarfeng knarfeng & SpyderPhreak SpyderPhreak

Here is an example on one today. Time limits are not working at this point, at least in the folding knives FS by individuals sub.

I have also noticed it not working

Not being able to edit… don’t like it at all.
Nanny state.
Break rule —> warn —> break rule again —> put on restriction… repeat / increase punishment. It’s worked for humanity for ages.

If you need more mods, get more mods. Create a criteria, solicit volunteers, interview, decide, done.

Not knowing what something is worth… it’s nobody’s job to teach you… it’s your job to watch & learn. Overpay once? Good… you learned something. Not all education is from books, nor should I be forced to spoon feed anyone.

I don’t approve of catering to the lowest common denominator. It stifles excellence… and is poor leadership. (get more mods)

Can BFC create a watermark for ad pics?
You already have the data:

Having every seller write notes by hand, into perpetuity, is wasting everyone’s time & resources. A one time, data driven engineered solution, would be way better.

Not knowing when to read the room. Priceless.
If directed at me…

If so, mods, supermods, staff, etc. have their big boy pants on and surely aren’t going to get in a huff over suggestions / opinions / feedback.

If you mean site staff are inflexible, I disagree… they try to make meaningful improvements.

It’s hard to tell from a “one liner,”… (without substance).

Goods and services time stamp don't relist a item to bump to the top before 14 days and 30 Mike Mike to edit I think this is the new SOP I'm tracking
