NEW SOFTWARE & SERVER UPGRADE: Task List, bug reports, monitor this thread

o_t_e,

Safari browser 1.3.2 (v312.6), it came with the Mac, 2005.
Could the system be too old ? Worked fine until now.
Other forums are OK.
Hope I can get this worked out.
Thanks !

I sent my subscription charge (PayPal) almost a week ago, the day after I was notified. Somehow my Knifemaker/Craftsman standing that was paid for removed and I now show up only as registered and without my avatar. I called today at "One-Stop" as soon as they opened to get things corrected but that still hasn't occurred. I hope you get it fixed soon . Is there something else that I need to do? Thanks.

Friday, everything worked well, today pages/profile will not download properly. I can't stay on the Blade Forums site opening pages half the time.

I see the same, other Forums are OK and run without problem.

Doug: I believe the whole state of PA has been Banned from Blades Forums, because of too many LOL Cat Posts. Sorry about that. :D

I can't email every person, I'm sorry, especially when you are experiencing intermittent problems. Are you on dialup or cable? Have you tried an alternate browser?
I understand about email, just though someone out there might know what my problem is and it's very difficult to get to this thread.
I'm on high speed satellite. Blade Forums is the only site I'm having problems with and it's slower than dailup. Was intermittent, now it's full time. I'll try a different browser.
Thanks,

I tried using the mobile vBulletin for BF on my phone (HTC Droid Incredible) this morning, everything was very slow to load. When clicking on any specific thread from a list regardless of how many posts were in it it took a long time (45 seconds to over a minute). Seems to be constantly loading, loading, loading even when just scrolling. Not necessarily a problem, but I think it will be frustrating for some.

Doug, download Firefox or Chrome and see if that is the case across the board. Of all the Mac browsers, Safari is my least favorite.

Just noticing the "Reply Toolbar" gets edited into the post unless the edit window is scrolled all the way up. Just in case it hasn't been seen or reported yet. Minor problem.

Doug, I understand how it has worked up to this time, but at some point, new hardware and software will likely not work correctly with older software/hardware. In your case, I do not think that it is a hardware issue, but rather a software issue.

First thing to do is upgrade your browser. You can either upgrade Safari or download and install Firefox. I personally would steer clear of Chrome for reasons unrelated to what's going on here. To give you an idea, the current version of Safari is 5.x, so if your version actually is what you say it is above, then you have some catching up to do. Assuming you have the inclination to stay with Safari, you may have to update it and restart your computer several times over to get it up to the current version supported by your OS. In other words, update Safari, restart your computer after the update is complete, and then update again (and keep going until there are no more updates available for Safari. Then, start updating programs potentially related to web-performance. Anything java, iTunes, security patches, and Quicktime come to mind. Some of these are going to take awhile and like the Safari update, you will likely have to download/install the update, restart your computer, and then check for more updates.

Without being there to see for myself, I cannot say for sure, but I honestly think there is a good chance that this will solve your computer issues. Also, when you go to do the updates, target specific updates rather than just do everything all in bulk. I have found that if you try to do too many updates at once, it can sometimes...for lack of a better word..."overwhelm" the system on a re-boot and some programs won't install or start-up properly.

I will also PM you my TX and if you want, we can chat tomorrow by phone. I want to be in front of my computer so I can better help if it gets to that point.

I've temporarily disabled the facebook interface to try to track down bugs with connections

From here in PA too...
Using Internet Explorer 8, version 8.0.6001.19019 - 555's IE should be the same since they wre upgraded at the same time.

I have Windows Vista, 555 has Windows XP.

The main pages look fine, but as you start clicking in to forums or deeper pages, the page formatting on most pages starts to look more like flat-file, words, indents, font styles, but few pictures, and the red X's where icons that link to other things (like profiles) would be. Links to pages work. Some pages come up fine, some come up with that 'flat-file' look. Frequent errors of Failure to Connect to Webserver. Most pages stop loading with the yellow ! at the bottom, "Done, with with errors on the page".

Hughesnet "highspeed" is marginally faster than dialup, but nothing like DSL or Cable. The speed is also highly variable - a page may load instantly one moment and a minute later take 30 seconds. Could there be issues with the 'data received' confirmation from out here being too slow, 'timing out' so your site isn't sending sending the next packets of data?

Can you copy and paste the "errors" messages?

Figured it out, my issue, not the forums. Sorry.

1) Yes BladeForums is very slow to load for me also. I tried at work today and it's also noticibly slower there.

I can see at the bottom it's loading things but slowly.

2) I'm unable to sort posts in the For Sale Forums by Last Post Time:

Bottom of the page- Sort Threads By drop down box / Last Post Time / press Show Threads = HTTP 404 Not Found

Almost every time I try and load a page here, I get a blank white page with this in the top left corner.

Failure To Connect To Web Server

If a page does load, it is not complete, just generic text.

I just doubled the amount of cpu in the vm, we'll see if that helps things.

That's helped with the 'flat file' look for me. I'm still not getting all the images/clickable icons before it goes to 'done with errors'.

Thanks!

In the past, I could Reply to Thread and attach images because the "paper clip" symbol was included. It appears that option has been removed.

I searched for condor and got 5 pages of hits.

I went to Advanced Search, put "condor" in the keyword field with no quotes, nothing in any of the other fields ... seems to be working fine....

I tried it again, but this time not checking the forums box up top. No problems now.

richard, I doubled the cpu on the server. It should come up faster for everyone
