New Strider Pivot

i had an smf that broke without me ever using it. the stop pin fell out. they replaced/repaired it free (except shipping) and i had it back in my hands in exactly two weeks.

of the 3 sng's ive owned, all needed pivot adjustment at some point. i always liked the fact that i could maintain them with only a hex key. a proprietary break down tool is disappointing.

only strider folder ive owned that was "perfect" was an anniversary ar from tadgear. smooth and sharp out of the box, but just too large to carry.

I have had 3 SmF's and all 3 were perfect.

I still have 2, I traded one of them that was never used. :D

CRK charges $400 for an Umnumzaan and $450+ for inlaid / embellished Sebenzas. Should they have a no-hold-barred we'll replace it for you whenever warranty? I don't think so.

I think that Strider has an exceptional "you break it, we'll fix it" warranty that happens to not cover people being stupid when taking apart or modifying the knives.

See this would be a good comparison if the quality of the knives were on par with each other. I dont own an Umnumzaan but you dont see people complaining about the F&F nor have major issues new out of the box with them. Same cant be said about Strider. Off centered blade thats scraping the side? Their response is "its within manufactoring tolerances." Strider is an excellent, strong knife thats way overpriced for the quality/materials/CS you are getting. The no questions asked warranty was its only saving grace and the only thing that some people might justify paying the Strider price tag for. I'm sure there are people who just love Strider and would pay any price for their unique, beastly knives which is cool. Just dont compare Strider vs CRK in terms of value. It makes no sense to me. Its pretty obvious which company takes better care of their customers.

Don't believe everything you read on the forums. ;)

Lots of parrots and sour grapes around on the net, mostly by people who never owned or even seen a Strider up close in person.

Striders F&F is much better than you think it is and the quality of materials they use is excellent.

Striders F&F and overall attention to detail is not bad by any stretch of the imagination. It's very very good actually.

Is it on par with CRK? Probably not. Is anyone really on par with CRK? No. I haven't held a knife like my CRK's, ever. Including customs.

Strider makes an excellent knife and backs it with a great warranty. What exactly is the basis for your gripes?

The off centered blade issue was one that happened to my brother's SNG when he got one brand new. 3 weeks of trying to contact Strider about the problem before they even responded with an email saying "its within manufactoring tolerances." You would think a company that sips all that military koolaid and crap would take care of a major issue that my brother who went off to the airforce had with his SNG.

They do. It's called a spanner wrench.

If they didn't fill the pivot THE ENTIRE LENGTH with loc-tite, I wouldn't mind.
Both my SmF's had so much damn loc-tite that the hair dryer didn't work, boiling it didn't work, soldering iron wasn't doing the trick...I had to stick an allen key bit in the pivot and stick it on the stove element for a stupidly long time, burning all the loc-tite out.
Pretty damn stupid way of doing things on their part.:thumbdn:

3 Weeks...

I can get in touch with them in less than 5 mins if I really needed to. ;)

It's call a telephone, you might have heard of it.

You push the numbers on it and Heather Answers on the other side.

It's call a telephone, you might have heard of it.

They didn't ANSWER their telephone the three times I called.
But it's fine, because I just fixed the issues myself, saving me cash, time, and aggravation.

Are you seriously mocking me? 3 weeks of phone calls, emails, and even a frickin letter sent by snail mail. Must be nice to be so ignorant that you can mock others when they have have legit problems with a knife company you so blindly love and refuse to acknowledge them.

Never had that issue. ;)

I either call them or PM Josh over on the other forum, no problem getting in contact with them.

I'll bet they never have issues with the pivot backing off though. :p :D

I didn't have an issue with the Loc-Tite. Soldering iron for about ten minutes and it just unscrewed. Was damn hot though.

There is a reason all great infantry arms are designed to be disassembled by hand or with very basic tools. Chris Reeve got it right with the sebenza, complete disassembly with a single allen key; included with every knife.

I doubt that seriously. ;)

I have never had any problems at all getting in touch with them.

Yeah, but it's nice to be able to tighten the pivot when blade-play develops without going through an entire ordeal.
There was loc-tite on my Umnumzaan pivot too, but just enough to keep it from backing out normally.
I was able to disassemble it with TOOTHPICKS, no burning required.

It's no secret Strider's QC, communication and overall MO isn't that great in a lot of instances. Most people have just gotten tired of sharing their experiences with it. They get told they're lying or they're a hater but do some research and you will see.I had a horrible experience with them.

They have never answered the phone. I've tried many times during normal business hours. They seem to prefer email.

The fit and finish on mine were awesome; the stupid glued-up pivot is my only beef with them.

I usually just PM Josh on the other forum if I need to contact them, but I did call a few times and had no issues there. :)

lol Strider fanboys like you give all other fanboys a bad name. Thats cool, theres no reason to argue with someone who refuses to speak or think logically and just mocks other people's problems. As they say, ignorance is bliss.

P.S. If i brown nose the guys over at Strider like you I'd probably get instant service as well :jerkit:

IIRC, they state that they prefer e-mail communication, and are often unavailable to answer the phone.
