New Strider Pivot

Yeah, but it's nice to be able to tighten the pivot when blade-play develops without going through an entire ordeal.
There was loc-tite on my Umnumzaan pivot too, but just enough to keep it from backing out normally.
I was able to disassemble it with TOOTHPICKS, no burning required.

I tried mine with toothpicks (cut them in half) but then realized I would much rather just wait for the tool.

lol Strider fanboys like you give all other fanboys a bad name. Thats cool, theres no reason to argue with someone who refuses to speak or think logically and just mocks other people's problems. As they say, ignorance is bliss.

P.S. If i brown nose the guys over at Strider like you I'd probably get instant service as well :jerkit:

I am not a Strider Fanboy I can tell you that. ;)

I own a lot of knives....

But I do really like the good ones and not just Striders. :)

When I buy a second one, it will come with the tool (and the one-piece thumbstud/blade stop!)

is it safe to say when strider says changing the blade grind will void the warrenty they dont mean the edge geometry ?

I've had 3 striders. Great fit and finish. I would like to be able to adjust the pivot easier, but I understand why they make it the way they do. It would make me bitter too if I had a bad experience with their cs, but so far I haven't needed anything adjusted. My smf is on par with my umnumzaan quality wise.

What under 3 weeks is alot of time? That was total time including mailing back and forth when I had to get one fixed. ;)

That's better than most IMO.

Mine took 36 days for them to fix it from the time it arrived at Striders shop. My PT came from the factory with the lock bar going all the way across the tang and getting stuck. They didn't change the lock bar or anything, they only made it not stick. On top of that they charged me $15 for return shipping but they maied it back to me parcel post with no insurance for $4 and wouldn't refund my other $11.

Also the knife came with a 65 degree edge (yes, 65). I sent it to Tom Krein and I'm never dealing with Strider again.

That's still not bad time wise since most wait times for other companies are over a month to 2 months. ;)

They likely had to make a part for it to get it back in spec, I do know that wait times for things they have to make take longer, then they have to be hand fitted.

The edge grinds are at a min of 22.5 degrees (50 degrees inclusive) per side on Striders, they always have been AFAIK.

Not sure on the postage thing to the UK, but I sent 2 knives overseas in the past month, one to Japan and the other to South Africa and they both cost a lot more than $4 even without insurance added.

It came back with all the original parts, it only had a little bit of the tang smoothed out.

As far as the shipping goes, my wife's in the Air Force and we're stationed in the UK. We have an APO address on base at the US Post Office. It would have cost $15 ($14.60 actually) if they sent it back to me Priority mail with insurance. When I asked why they only used $4 they told me the other $11 was for packing material and a trip to the post office. The post office is only 1 mile from thier office so those must have been some expensive packing peanuts!

I think stuff like that should go out of pocket for them. the knife was screwed up from the factory, they should fix it for free and ship it back to you for free. every knife I've had to send back to the maker was shipped back free of charge.

Yeah $14.60 sounds about right.

Kinda odd to me though what they did...

Any word if this pivot will be used on all their knives? I remember reading about them experimenting on different designs.

Strider knives are great. I love them and have 2 - PT and SnG at the moment.
Strider quality is OK, but not the best of the breed :) I had two knives with loose pivot screws (no locktite of any kind) and one SnG blade with loose stop pin. Both were brand new out of the factory. To me it was not a biggie, as I deal with the issues myself. I disassemble, fix and clean up Striders with no hesitation. I think of Striders design (with one piece g10 as an advantage for disassembly). All my Striders are in perfect condition now with strong 100% lock-up, centered blades, blue locktite on the pivots and good smooth actions.
Strider warranty which used to be one of the best in the industry lately changed to a mediocre one to say the least. I understand the reason behind the change by reading some of Josh's posts on the greener forum, still to me it is a step down. I should say that I had never dealt with Strider CS and do not know how good they are. I've seen different experience from different people on forums.
Strider pivots are great, as I like the form and function. I do not care too much about this recent change. I will be able to deal with any, if needed :D

I just got the new PT with the 3 pin pivot....not sure how i feel about it yet. I read this entire thread and saw a couple people mention the 'other forum' where there was a strider section. Can someonw either email or PM me this other forum as I would like to read up on some of the strider specific topics.

Re: the original topic, the new pivot screws:
This is from Mick Strider:

"the only reason i changed it is because it was too small to broach well with the torx, and we were forever stripping the torx heads out of fasteners.

Simple, reasonable.
