From Becky Ackerman

‎Hanna Ackerman update day 49:
Hanna has been moved from standard risk to very high risk. We go to the dr. today & hopefully her counts are where they need to be to start her next round of chemo. with this recent chromosome finding they were telling us about, it means the leukemia is more likely to come back. if her counts are high enough, she will have a spinal tap & have a medicine through iv. Drs said it will be a 9 hr day today due to how harsh this medicine will be on her body they need to be sure it's out of her system before she goes home. This will continue every tuesday. Hanna will go to the dr. 4 days a week until They check her again in approx 3-4 weeks. The drs. will look to see if these intense chemos & medicines are working. If they are then they are then they will continue treatment as planned. If these intense chemos & medicines are not working she will be in need of a stem cell transplant.

Hanna continues to be in our prayers, looks like a long road ahead but she sure is a fighter.

Is there anything we can do to help? Besides keeping her and your family in our prayers. Is insurance covering the treatments? Can you PM me an address to mail a get well card, or a stuffed animal or something? I have a young daughter and my heart is breaking for your family. Let me know if theres anything else I can do. Your all in my prayers.

Here is the latest update from Becky on Hanna, (they are at the hospital right now), a bit of good news!

The whole situation was explained thoroughly today & gives us a much better feeling about hannas outcome. Her MRI scan came back completely fantastic, she still has the bad chromosome factor, but with the two combined it doesnt look as bad as once thought. She will not need a stem cell transplant unless god forbid the cancer comes back. Her treatments are still going to be very rough with side effects. Her counts are great so, she will be starting treatment today. She can go to school the rest of the week.

Another update from Becky

I'm sorry not MRI, my phone put that by accident... It's a test they do to see how many leukemia cells are left in the body. They are classified M1 (less than 5%leukemia detected), M2 (5-25% detected), M3 (25%or more detected.) She is M1. Hanna started at 100% leukemia cells and now has 1 per every 10,000 leukemia cells. The dr. said that was amazing!

That's good news indeed. I hope things continue to get better each day for her.

Go Hanna!

Glenn

She is still very high risk for it coming back, but the doctors were talking about some other numbers where a good number that they hope for is 8 1/2 - 9. Her`s is a 10! Everything they were told today was very positive. Starting tomorrow, she will be able to go to school for a half day four days a week. She will be at the hospital all day on Tuesdays, then she has to go for a shot on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, so she will be back home around 10 each of those three days.

That's some really great news, John. At least one of the cancer-fighting kiddos that we have worked with have been classified as "slow responders," which sounds like the same genetic coding that Hannah has. The good news is that they know so much more about it than just a couple years ago, and adjust the care plans accordingly.

God bless her and you all.
