New Zombie TV Show ( The Walking Dead )

I really enjoy the show so far .. I hope it does not take a koo-koo for cocoa puffs turn of events like the TV Series LOST :D which lost me after season 3

there seems to be a few gaps in the storyline thus far.

did they REALLY write dixon out of the storyline after hightailing it to the cdc? i mean, it could be that he found the car meant for morgan but that seems like a stretch especially since he amputated his hand and likely didn't do a great job of cauterizing the wound to last very long. no mention of him aside from the bitter comment from dixon's brother, or any indication as to his whereabouts other than the van he stole from rick's rescue group.

is the random family REALLY dumb enough to drive 4+ hours from atlanta to bama in a zombie apocalypse? hopefully we find out what happens to them.

in terms of leaving jim, i suppose they couldn't stick around till he turned due to the fact that they were on the road with no real security measures like they had back at the camp. not that the tin cans helped much when the big attack went down.

hopefully this last episode brings some of the underlying questions to light.

yeah, a few :)

one can walk into most any target, walmart, best buy around here and get "35 mile walkie talkies". everyone one of those guys should have radios on them. buckets of batteries (or by month 1-2 solar)...

as well, i bet with EVERYONE DEAD, grabbing some claymores and building a perimeter wouldn't be so hard. there's your tincans :)

dixon is the type to not die easily apparently. maybe he's always been a zombie and didn't know it. probably got himself to a pharmacy, and is high on codeine, oxycontin, and antibiotics and reading porn with one hand. cough.

random family is probably pretty dumb "we got family there" - well chances are they're dead, cuz EVERYONE IS DEAD. that's a LOT of dead folx.

the CDC thing should be interesting.

I'm not saying i'm exactly proud of it, but there you go :D

(and I hate them because they scare me -not really)

Though they are kind of confusing in a way when I over think the whole zombie stuff. I mean, they can go without half the body but one shot through the head "kills" them. too much thinking, headache on the way, damn.

I would say that they are actually more secure where they stopped to let Jim out. They are mobile, with at least two options of ways to egress the location. In the camp, they were hunkered down, had tents all over the place... the only option was to stand and fight, or run haphazardly in scattered directions

Those 35 mile walkie-talkies are actually more like 4 miles, max, unless you are talking mountain-peak to mountain-peak. They are attenuated severely by trees, buildings, etc. Other than the peak-to-peak scenario, the only way those frequencies can go extended distances is with radio repeaters, which are going to be quite rare in that scenario, and the cheap "35-mile" radios don't work on the split frequencies required to utilize the repeaters anyway. At least none of the radios that I've seen in Walmart or Target. Haven't paid attention to Best Buy and whether they have repeater-compatible radios. Cabelas is the only general-box-store location that I've seen lately that has them listed; I don't think even their counterpart, Bass Pro Shops, carries repeater-radios.

I'm totally with you on the claymores, though. I don't see why they aren't armed to the teeth.

I like the entertainment value of the series, but things about zombie shows in general irk me to no end:

Why would you not use the highest capacity firearms you could get? Revolvers and pump guns are too slow on the reload, without constant drilling, for dealing with multiple individuals, not to mention hordes. The visuals on struggling to get more rounds into a wheelie under duress, (Resident Evil), or fumbling bullets or shotgun shells at the loading gate, (Shawn of the Dead), or at the break for a SxS shotgun, (Zombieland), sure raises the on screen tension level though.

Why would you take an unhinged cracker on a stealth mission into the city?

If camped out like the survivors, why would you not put up a barbed wire or wooden palisade perimeter for creatures that cannot figure out glassed in doors at the department store?

When Glen was captured by the vatos, why not just kill the captive and walk with all of the guns and ammo? Glen shouldn't have let himself get taken. In a world with scant medical resources, risking gun shot wounds over regaining one guy is extremely stupid.

As others mentioned, why wouldn't everyone have a walkie?

If getting bitten were the only way for the zombies to get you, why wouldn't you wear improvised armor, or tough to bite through clothing, rather than tee shirts and light pants?

I get it though, I really do. Characters in zombie flicks have to be stupid or foolhardy in order to be regularly preyed upon by undead creatures who cannot believably form sophisticated hunting strategies.

Just give me a .22 with large capacity magazines. If it just takes a shot to the head you could spend the afternoon on a roof clearing an area. Have lunch...maybe clear some more. retire to a fortified position and post guards. I'm sure you could scare up .22 rounds at every walmart or sporting goods store. Think of a ruger 10/22 with a 50 round drum mag...lol All just fun food for thought.

+1 on the comms and wearing tougher clothing...although Atlanta in the summer...the Zombies might not get you but heat stroke would...lol

anybody know where I can watch episodes online? Can't find any sites anywhere, it looks like everyone pulled their episodes.

The Zombie Combat Manual covers this very thing.:)
Remember though, you can get infected from the scratches as well; open sores on zombie+scatch wounds=a new zombie.
The proper clothing protects against both means of attack (don't think plate armour though...you'll end up as a canned meal for ghouls:D).

If the TV versions of the characters (that survive) goes anything like their evolution in the comics, they will become a lot smarter and tougher when it comes to survival. Right now there's still a hint of hope that someone will save them, so they aren't all flipping out about finding ammo or a safe place to stay for a long period of time. Give it a few months..

Anyone know if that guy who plays Rick can grow a beard?:D

Think rabies. :D Nasty stuff!

i'd be more worried about someone swooping in and taking what i have instead of saving me, like those hospital workers, they've been predated on before.

very much like the original Triffid story, it's less about the "monster" than the human condition, and having man turn on itself, as well as bloom. people can be your worst enemy when they freak out, and your best resource when they shine. mostly, though, they like to freak out and become mobs minded with alpha leaders - ptui! bang bang - i'm the alpha!. being protected from zombies, means being protected from that type too ;)

good thing they learn to toughen up.

It's about time. The series could be much more dynamically written and even now, the character development has been a big "So what?"

You've gotta make the viewer care about someone who is under constant threat of becoming zombie fodder. Then these zombie encounter scenes move from repetitious to providing something truly terrifying--the possible death of a character you would actually miss. This show hasn't managed that basic feat yet.

AMC-HD is currently having a video drop out.
I'm watching via Dishnetwork.

I'm not going to watch AMC-SD, going to wait until the 10:00 showing.
I want to see the season finale!! :(
