New ZT0550 Thread !!!

I wanna thank the Kershaw guy , for his service and time.
I feel as if I got lucky and got a good one persay .......its a little hard to open at first , but after reading everyones post and solutions ......I find its not bad at all ...... as a matter of fact , I love this knife.
Its my first ZT and probably wont be my last.
Iam gonna move the pocket clip to Tip Down carry and see if that improves it even more. .....
I just moved the pocket clip to tip down carry and it improved the opening alot ........meaning I must of been putting to much pressure on the lock bar unknowingly.
Being new here I know nobody cares what I think ........ just my 2 cents worth here on this knife. ........dj

I'd also like to take a moment to sincerely thank Dave the KershawGuy.I came into the game very late,& he still was able to get me one in the first delivery.
This isn't the first time he's done this for me.

Thanks Dave:thumbup::)

Hey guys just so you know I have taken my inventory to Kershaw for inspection and I will have it back very soon, I will then continue to contact 62 more of you that are on my standby list. thanks

Dave

Sweet! Hope I'm one of the 62! :D

I've got #251 & it works fine. For those of you who have a problem with the "detent" theres a simple test to see if its too strong. There is a lot of blade to grap, just try opening with 2 hands. Is it very hard to open? If not the problem is where you are postioning your thumb when opening. Also you have to make sure not to put pressure on the intregal lock on the other side. On this folder the thumb studs are also the stop pins so there has to be a compromize on how far from the pivot it can be. I had a little difficulty when I first got mine and found out you have to push the thumb stud almost directly up, not at an angle.
I have a feeling that all the detent's are fine and the people who have problems opening the blade just have to experiment on different ways to position your hand. Someone mentioned moving the pocket clip to the pivot side so there could be more leverage.
YES!!! That was it!

I bow down to you in gratitude:thumbup:. Yes, I'm used to opening the knife by pushing at the thumb studs directly to the right from the handles, but with this knife there wasn't much space between the handles and the studs, and I never quite thought of taking care to push directly up. It also seems like even holding only the pocket clip puts extra pressure on the lockbar making it difficult to open. As suggested I'll try moving the pocket clip to see if it helps.

My thumb is red and throbbing:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:.

Happy Bday Dave! To those with opening issues try swigging the clip and frame locks do break in, it's the privilege of owning a new one

So, after a week the fairly hard use and only a quick strop on leather each night, my 0551 was dull enough for me to finally introduce it to my belt sander. I am quite impressed by how the Elmax held up over the week of use edge wise, and how good the stone washed finish still looks

Today I finally noticed why this knife feels so good in hand for tip usage, the downward curve of the total knife acts like an extension of your pointer finger, feels very natural to use it like so (at least to me)

I'm thinking I need to make the drive down and visit your belt sander :)

Great looking edge sir!

Well Im pleased to report that #0382 made it to my hands today. Awesome knife lock up is good, blade centered. Does have the liner rust, but no worries. Shout out to Dave for getting me on his list. I couldnt be happier. I also know where #0383 is, it was in the same shipment same conditions.
