Mo photos...

Great pics! You and Jroden do an excellent job with your photos.

Had to go look at mine again to see if mine had that cool ZT logo on it. ;)

No such luck.:D

Fantastic photos! looks like your liner also needs a good stonewashing...

Thanks.
Yeah, it does have a bit of rust. I'm debating whether or not to send it back or just fix it myself. The knife is going to be a gift to my son, so I'd like it to be perfect. I appreciate Thomas W's top notch service and attention to the problem.

Photoshop :-)

I snagged the logo from the box and applied it for artistic effect and
so that it would look kinda like an Ad for ZT.
Oh, and thanks for the kudos.

Question if I may ........ those of you that found rust on your 0551.
Where has this rust been located ? Can you see the rust without taking the knife apart ??
I have #280 and have looked it over fairly close and havent seen any rust on the G-10 liner side at all. Is this where you all have seen it ??
Everytime I read about rust , I take mine in hand and look it over closely ......I find nothing.
Is there a pic of the rust area ??

Well, I was overjoyed for a moment and then my curse kicked in.

When my knife arrived today I did the usual F&F inspection then moved straight to the sharpening stones. When I was done I noticed two things, the first being I could push the lock bar over the right after lock up and the second was rust on the liner side

At first I thought the rust may have been from using my water stones to sharpen but I dug a little deeper and found this.

The lock issue is one that I have seen before and I figured it was probably from too much oil, from the looks of it that seems to be the issue.

So before I fix the issues myself I would like to hear from Thomas or Rick. I can fix it myself and really don't want to send it back but if you want it for inspection I understand. I'm also not upset by this but rather just wanted to give you the heads up on a possible problem.

If you have the time and don't feel comfortable taking care of the rust/discoloration yourself, contact Kershaw and let them take care of it. Especially for a gift for your son.

I used wet-dry sandpaper to clean up mine, but could see how if I got a little too aggressive with the lower grits I could've thinned up the liner too much.

Jroden5446- Blue collar hands unite!!:D

Today I finally noticed why this knife feels so good in hand for tip usage, the downward curve of the total knife acts like an extension of your pointer finger, feels very natural to use it like so (at least to me)

Ive pulled the G-10 to inspect for rust (found none at all) thank the Lord , but after putting it back together and adjusting the pivot back etc. ......
Ive found the knife to be smoother operating (funny , strange) but it may seem that putting it back together in the right sequence order has a lot to do with it.
Iam glad now I took it apart

After switching the clip to tip down carry and some more opening and closing, the blade now opens a LOT easier with one hand. No more swinging the knife out like a madman when flicking open, and I was even able to open it left handed(no flicking though)! If it continues to smooth down over the next few weeks this thing will be very smooth opening.

ZT 0551 #0178 arrived yesterday. Thanks jpj.

Fit & Finish is exceptional.
* G-10 nicely done and fitted.
* Grinds all symmetrical.
* Blade centered within a couple of thousandths.
* Blade very sharp.
* Lockup excellent, 50% of lock bar covers 60% of tang.
* Of course, no blade play; lockup tight & positive.
* Opens as smooth as glass.

Liner on G-10 side had 2 minute spots of "corrosion".
Since I already had it apart I lightly bead blasted the liner before reassembly.

This is a very impressive knife.

To say I am impressed with this knife is an understatement.
This is a sweet way to be introduced to ZT.

A job well done to all who had a part in this creation. :)
