New ZT0550 Thread !!!

I have one already and another preordered and I checked with my dealer and he was able to tell me that I was number 21 out of the 200 he is getting. So I know I'm in. You should be able to do the same.

Oh! Nice. Thanks. I emailed Kershawguy, he placed me on his list. Just wasn't sure if it was going to happen for certain or not.

I put the 0551 thru the cardboard ringer over the Christmas holiday. I spent about 30 mins on Monday cutting up all the cardboard boxes that had collected from the receiving of gifts and the kid's presents from Santa. I though for sure the blade would be like a butter knife when I was done. Surprise, Surprise!!! It's still pretty damn sharp; the Elmax steel is holding up very well.

That's good to hear! I'm waiting to receive my second one before I decide which one I'm going to carry and use. The one I have right now is pretty much perfect.

I'm sorry if it's been covered in this HUGE thread already, or if I'm confused but the original prototypes for the zt0550 that I saw had a finger choil, has that been dropped? I'm totally new to Zero Tolerence knives, and Rick Hinderer but have just recently been able to handle a XM-18 and a few ZT knives, Both impressed me greatly. I am really excited about the 0550 so I just wanted to be aware if any changes have been made. Again if this a mix up on my part my apologizes.

NP. The top rendition is pretty much what we'll be getting. No blade coating and no choil. ;)

Got mine today, really sweet knife. Unfortunately, it arrived very dull which is something I've commonly experienced with Kershaw/ZT. However, I've sent in a 0200 and 0300 for sharpening and the guy doing the resharpening of the ZT's does a fantastic job so I'm thinking I'll send this one in at the same time I send in my BM 790... I feel like I'm always waiting on a knife :D

Sorry to hear that. Mine came with a very sharp, even and toothy edge that a quick loaded strop job fixed right up to extremely sharp. I know what you mean about always waiting on a knife though. Not the same as what you probably mean but I buy at least 3/4's of my knives on preorder far in advance so all I ever do is hurry up and wait.

It happens. Maybe the person doing the resharpening has more time to focus on the actual edge than when it originally leaves? Who knows.

It came with a nice burr so I stropped it on the 1"x42" belt, but it was still dull. I don't plan on using this particular knife so I figure I'd just send it in.

It would almost be easier to buy one knife and maybe a backup along with a sharpener and be set for life, but we all know that will never happen.

Hopefully 3rd times the charm with this benchmade; I've sent it in twice for sharpening so far and they somehow keep forgetting to do it..

Looking for advice re. order placed with Bladehq. I pre-ordered on 12/19 and my card was charged same day. Their website had indicated ETA end of December beginning of Jan. I emailed them yesterday for an update and was informed that due to the earlier issues the delivery was now expected end of Jan.

The practice of charging in full for an item that is back ordered aside I am willing to wait if this is the best chance of acquiring this beauty, I have contacted kershawguy to get on his list. So one question, perhaps Thomas can chime in, is are these guys in line for an allocation?

You can trust Cam and BHQ. I'm on his list too. I've done business with them for years now.

Thanks for the reply Reeek. They have very good feedback which is one reason that I placed the order. Its funny how waiting for a new knife makes me want to order another one just to ease the jones ; )

As for BHQ, they are slated to receive 200 0551's I'm told ;)

My ZT/H 0551 has been sitting idle, since work has been short-handed.
My body says: no more OT.
My billfold grabs the pencil & puts me on the schedule.
Daym!

Which is prudent, because I'm looking forward to the black 0551 (currently on hold) and the pre-ordered ZT/H 0550.

I had intended to pick up a couple nice fixed-blade knives this year, but as long as ZT & Rick Hinderer are putting out these superb folders....
Daym!
