New ZT's for 2017 what do you love?

920 isn't bad, rest are meh. Looks like I'll be sticking to current offerings for my next ZT.

Behold! The best new folding knife release from Kai this year!

Sad but true.

Yup What is ZT thinking. I wished they would bring out more knives like their old stuff :(

What other American company is even close to changing designs and pushing the industry forward? Case? Buck? Spyderco? Gerber? Benchmade?

Why would a company, any company, sit back and let the rest of the industry run past them?

People are complaining about "art knives" and "pocket jewelery", but have they actually used the expensive toys that they bought? I hope we could all agree that a regular old Case traditional would suit most of the knife needs we have in a day. But for those of us that like variety and choice, why complain about a company that provides that? If you don't like them, fine. Don't buy them. That just makes it easier for those of us that do want one to get it. Everybody has opinions. You are entitled to yours. I am entitled to disagree with you.

Wait, first you say not to complain, then you go on about how folks are entitled to express their opinions? You're gonna have to pick a side on that, I'm afraid.

Last year 4 of the 6 new production models announced at the 2016 SHOT Show were at dealers by the end of January 2016! The other two were out middle of March 2016.

Good to know, thanks! Soon as I can I am getting in on a preorder for that 920. I been wanting a les george or at least a les design for a while! This is it!!

The only one that interests me is the 0460 -- but it interests me a lot.

Unlike many, I'm glad that ZT has moved away from their early direction. I don't mind a beefy Ken Onion folder but the gray-camoed blades pushed them into Tactilol territory for me. I like the move towards greater variety and artier knives. I don't need to kill a cape buffalo with my EDC so they get their fair share of pocket time.

need action video of the ZT 0850 please. its not KVT, is it PB washers?

Since it doesn't say speedsafe assisted opening, I would guess it would be just PB washers.

The 0460 looks just like the packrat!!! Does anyone else see this, I love it BTW 😊😊

None of the new ZTs for 2017 interest me. The only ZT that is appealing to me is the 0562. If the 0350 didn't have the recurve, it would be interesting, but it does.

What we haven't seen yet is those wacky ZT limited and special editions. I wanted the ZT produced Hinderer Eclipse so badly but they don't make a regular version of it. Oh well ZT you lost out on the resulting sale. I would have bought it in a second.

That's what I really want to see for 2017 a standard issue Eclipse. I also want to see more ZT Emersons. They're already making a bunch of Emerson Kershaws why not ZTs.

Um, Spyderco for sure. The diversity of designs and materials is staggering.

Spyderco for sure.

Just in 2016, Spyderco delivered 52 new models of which 16 were brand new models and another 16 were Sprint Runs / Dealer Exclusives of existing models but with different steels and handle materials. Of course, that includes all their offerings made in U.S., Taiwan, Japan, Italy and China.

Personally I like the new models, I'll be getting the 055, 460, and 920 for sure. The others aren't quite my style, but I can appreciate the appeal for others. I'd share my actual thoughts, but I dont think thats what people here are looking for...Unfortunately as far as this forum goes ZT just cant win it seems.....they push out new designs and people just whine that its not to THEIR liking. I understand the comparisons to the volume of output Spyderco has, but they aren't really that comparable to me. The majority of their production is done overseas, they don't have to do their own CNC programming, machining, finish work, etc. ZT's are made in America, by Americans....funny how people constantly take that for granted. Not to mention the volume that ZT produces and sells far eclipses Spyderco's output. What exactly do you people expect?

I get that forums are about sharing opinions, but it seems like on this forum lately its just about bashing what you don't like, with no actual constructive criticism and a complete loss of perspective as to our place in the larger marketplace. Im sure that ZT's going to be just fine without the support of a few whiners over here, and I'll gladly carry the "unusable art knives" in this years lineup. Im sure my thoughts will be chalked up to the usual fanboy banter, and I'll get slandered in W&C by the usual suspects...have fun, Im out on this thread. Good on ZT for doing something different, y'all can get your manual folders with no innovations from Benchmade:-)

Well the claim was that ZT is pushing the industry forward like no other brand. I'll have to disagree. Spyderco pushes the knife industry forward more so than ZT IMO. ZT as of late caters to the trends. Sorry but CNC machining is superfluous to knife making. Believe it or not knives were made before CNC! ZT can do cool carbon fiber inserts and sweet milling and bearings etc. I don't really see that as "pushing the industry forward". Spyderco experiments with blade steels, edge geometry and lock types. I think THAT is pushing the knife industry forward. But that's just my opinion. And I'll say it again, I really like ZT!!!!

Well, I would say that the 0920 would be perfect if it just had a different blade on it. Something like a more classical drop point without that silly recurve. The handle is amazing looking. I'd be all over it except for the blade shape.

The 0850 does have some interesting design features and the blade shape is pretty good except for the weird cutout above the jimping that totally ruins it for me.

The 0460 is just way to curved with the trailing point clip and the acutely shaped handle to be of any decent edc use in my opinion. But when I first saw it I thought it was much bigger than it is. As a smaller knife its better.

Anyways. There's an attempt at "constructive" criticism for what it's worth. Bottom line, everyone has different tastes and needs and my comments just reflect mine. I'm less into the pocket jewelry styling and more into knives that have classic and practical features while also incorporating modern materials, machining, etc (i.e. stuff like the 0562CF, the 0392 series). I was hoping for more of that sort of stuff and ZT went another way this year. For folks that prefer it, that's great.
