Next two on the bench...Twins!

Thanks Borgano and welcome to Bladeforums! Your English is great by the way.

Good eye Frank, The Inquisitor will indeed get something similar. But still a little "different". :D
Thanks for your input, greatly appreciated.

Patrice, those are looking real nice.

I know I'm coming in a kind of late on this, but I noticed you only tempered at 350. With at least some Damascus a higher temper gives a better/darker contrast between layers, not sure why that is though. 350 might be a bit low anyway. 400 usually does it, but you might need to re-sand them to get the full effect...

You can up your temper temperature without re-quenching. I do this all the time when I am testing blades for proper hardness combined with edge geometry.

I'm really interested in seeing if this will change the Damascus, interesting!

You don't need to re-quench, just re-sand and temper higher. It can make a drastic difference in the appearance of the etch.

You'll have to decide whether or not it's worth it at this point to try it though. Maybe just try it on one and see.

I don't think I've ever sanded damascus past 600 grit, beyond that just gets lost in the etch.

Thanks, I'll try it on the other one, the more traditional one. Then I can compare the results and will post them on here.

What would I do without you guys. :D

Almost didn't post this as there is not much to see but hey, we all like pics right?

Just redid the lower part of the guard as one solid piece. Now it needs to be shaped properly.

Thanks for looking.

Wow Patrice... are gloves really THAT expensive in Quebec? It seems like you've been wearing the same pair for the last couple of months. :p
Don't they have Harbor Freight up there??? ;)

Did a little (about 5 hours :() work on it. I am getting to the point where I am starting to run out of steam, as I do on each knife it seems. This was suppose to be simple, right. Some things I like some things I am not sure.

What do you think?

PS:I went all out Erin and splurge on a new pair of gloves. ;)

I like it Patrice, it is looking really good from way down here in South Texas.

Well Pat, I think I owe you an appology. My ignorance on the through tangs being made for easy take apart and not with a permanent pommel sure didn't produce anything but very bad direction. I will watch more and say less. Frank

Man that is looking good. I'm really digging the handle.

If you want a darker etch, try a mix of about 4 or 5 to one distilled water to ferric, and let soak for 15 minuets, then clean with water and clean 0000 steel wool. Normally takes me two to three etches to get the look I'm after.

Thanks for the good words guys.

I'll give that a try Will, thanks.

Frank, not sure I understand what you mean? This is a take down.

What I meant was I thought that almost every through tang was made to stay together anbd not be able to be taken apart. Perhaps there are more take apart ones than not? Frank

I have no idea what the ratio is Frank. Might be the subject of a future post.

The rattlesnake tail was part of the original concept but got pushed away. But I think I am going back to it. Now I only need a name for inspiration. The Rattler?
Thanks for the good words Tai.
