Nick Wheeler Prototype Fighter. "Oh YEA "......

I'm a few days behind where I had hoped to be right now, but still moving forward and feeling good about it overall. :)

Just so you don't forget what this thread is about.......... ;)

I had the pleasure of meeting Joe and inspecting his knife yesterday. One of the nicest/friendliest persons I have met so far.

Nick, I am not a forged blade guy but that one knife has me rethinking my likes and regretting not being able to get one of these. Excellent knife; I now totally understand the Wheeler Fan Club.

David The pleasure was all mine glad you liked the knife I think it was well received by all who saw it

I'm in the Vegas airport right now waiting for the red eye home

Btw I loved your stuff

A lot of u might say that this is sacrilege to alter a Wheeler but as you know some of these had a temper line but it was not brought out i have another one of these coming and the proto had such a neat temper line i gave it a quick etch I'm not yet done polishing it out but I think it looks pretty cool

Here ya go

Thanks guys

This was just a quick etch and the photo was taken after I just unmasked the guard and gave it a quick rub down with
Flitz The blade was then covered in oil and the pic was with a cell phone so I think it looks pretty good

After some more work it should look really good not anything like if Nick brought out the temper line but for my user
Blade I'm happy as hell

I also had the chance to meet Joe this past weekend. Sorry for the PA announcement Joe, I didn't know how to find you :D.

The blade is beautiful, and feels incredibly graceful in hand. Just some amazing craftsmanship in my opinion.

No problem the pleasure was all mine

Glad ya liked the blade

In a sea of very tactical blades that where at the show I was not sure how this more classic styled fighter would be
Received but I guess classic good looks and balance and feel will always rule the day

Thanks again it was great to meet you

Joe, I'm a little disappointed.......I thought the handles would look a little better. That almost looks like blue masking tape.

Paul

Just FWIW- I would NOT recommend anybody do this, unless they do it the way that Joe did. Otherwise, the chances that there would be etching solution down inside the guard and handle that would later cause rust and other issues would be VERY high.

Nick I did not dunk the blade

I masked everything including the ricasso

I held by handle tip down and applied acid with brush

No etchant came near guard so none could get in handle

I just masked everything in case of a slip or splash

Okay, I "yelled" at Joe for no good reason. :foot:

Of course it looks really cool! I was just concerned about the acid getting down into the handle.

What he did is just fine. When I saw the tape I ASSumed he dunked the whole knife which, IMHO, is a huge no-no.

I still love ya buddy no worries

Nick was concerned that people would dunk there entire knives in acid which would be bad so please don't :)

When do you ever need a good reason to yell at Joe? :D
