No Knife :-(

I'm done. I told myself my first cranky reply and I was out of the thread. I don't mind discussing things, but if it's already been gone over in the thread I should not be spending time on that as opposed to filling orders.

Any further replies will be regarding resolution of saIes.

I honestly feel that I've reached the point where I've said what I can say. I think there is plenty available for anyone who wants to make a judgement one way or another. I'm not saying I'll refuse to reply to anyone, just I think this is all academic until the tracking goes active.

Not to mention discussing in hindsight can be really sore for me... I don't like being told how I should have felt or what I should have done when I was curled up in a ball on the floor of my shop trying not to scream from the pain and wake up my fiance.

Agreed, some folks just have to get their bit in, even if what they're saying has already been said and replied to by you. At this point you've explained to us what's going on, admitted your communication suffered due to your medical issues, and told us your plan to make all these orders right. I have a knife due to me, and I'm prepared to be patient for a couple more weeks and see what happens. If I don't have it after 2 weeks I'll come back and rattle this thread again. On the short list of things Ian doesn't need right now is a lecture from any of us about how much better we'd have handled things if we'd burst a disk in our back. I respectfully request we cancel the sermons, at least until we get a few more weeks in and see how the follow-up is progressing.

Thanks. :)

I'm in no position to preach back, and you all just want the blades you paid for.

Best wishes to everyone, and back to the grindstone, literally.

Wishing you the best Ian. I have two of your knives and you were nothing but a pleasure to do business with. Personally I think you are handling this as well as possible, given the circumstances. Prayers to you, your wife, and new addition to the Hall family.

Ian,
Haven't heard from you.
Hope your health hasn't deteriorated?
Looking forward to getting my knife.

I hate to see this happen ... Remember all the other guys that did this. They all had one thing in common . They all start and end up in the same place . Hall of shame .

I hope your health is on the mend.

I know you "hate" being told what you should have done but many here have or have had health issues. I think the bottom line here comes down to communication and no matter how much one hurts when they have the money of another they really need to stay in contact. A 5 second E-mail can speak eternity when money is involved.

BUT you know all this...........................................................

You know I was going back and checking a few things and Geez... This is on two full months since these guys paid . We all know this is unacceptable but for finished knives ?? They should have made it to the mail come hell or highwater. I buy and trade knives and even make a few that I sell and once I am paid I make sure item goes out the next day. If things get a little hectic I will send my kid down the following day.

Ian you type up a good game but you know what. Its time to get these items overnighted to these guys. I know you claim you make hundreds of knives a year. Which I call BS on just square up with these guys and go away.

August 8, I received an e-mail with tracking number from USPS, indicating HallHandmade had purchased Priority Mail shipping service. Current tracking doesn't show the package has been scanned yet. So it seems he's paid for shipping, which I take as a good sign.

I have never seen "pre-shipment".

Do you pay for that or does that mean that the shipper has printed the label to start the process? Can you print this kind of a label prior to paying for shipping?

I learn something new about the USPS every day, or at least try to!!

Between the time that you pay for shipping on-line, and the first time the shipping label is actually scanned by the USPS, the tracking information shows up as pre-shipment. UPS works the same way, a shipper prints a label and I get an e-mail that my package is "on the way", though if you check tracking it indicates the shipper has "electronically notified the UPS (or USPS) of having printed a shipping label. Then I'll get an update the first time the item is scanned. You don't get a label or a tracking number until you pay, so it seems Ian has paid for shipping. He hasn't been on the forums since 8/10, hopefully his situation has not become more complicated.

I buy a fair amount of online goods. Most places ship pretty fast. Some places though, I will get an email with a "your items have been shipped" when they have not. Some services send that email when the shipper buys or prints out a label but it can often be days until they actually drop it off and it is updated as "received".
Best of luck guys, its not over until the item is in hand, as ordered.

You say you have a contingency plan with funds to back it up. If so and you cannot deliver, plus you have taken a customers cash, you should send them a refund.

Your original ad says sheath included, that implies the knife ships within two days. Your ad however does not show the sheath. it appears you listed the knives for sale before the full product was finished.
Take a moment to really read this. The op and Mr. Hall have been acting like true gentlemen. You should learn from that. If you don't have a dog in this race keep it positive.

I don't have a dog in this race .. But you know what . I am a member of this community and I am also a knifemaker . So when I see fellow bladeforum members getting the shaft I am going speak my mind . I have been around a long time and I have seen this con before . Go back and look at every time a knifemaker screws forum members and see how it all starts and ends ... As a consumer we all should have each other's back.. Just because Ian has posted up that he is going to make good we should take his word... Please .. As a knife maker he is an embarrassment to the guys who do the right thing and don't get in over are heads. We pay are dues and don't sucker people for free equipment and other tools

I am still hopeful of a positive outcome here, but Mr Hall needs to get some of these out and/or communicate. Seems like excuses continue to build. Back, pipes, fiancé, etc. many of these we're supposed to be completed and ready to go a week ago. No shipment yet?
I think Hall deserves a little benefit of the doubt, but he will soon be stretching those reasonable limits.

We are all supposed to cut Mr. Hall some slack, huge slack because he has/had health issues. I agree, health issues can screw up one's life terribly but...................................................

it does not cause people to talk in circles, either the knife was ready, the knife is ready, the knife is shipping (photos of the finished knife would sure be important here) or a refund is heading into paypal.

Short of a coma or death, a Maker should be able to get a finished knife in the mail or cash into paypal.

That's fact!!!

Not sure what I am to learn. I just tried to give Mr Hall some advice from the customer's perspective. He obviously did not need it, and that's fine by me.

To me, listing a knife for sale w/o sheath would have been a deal breaker. My money would have remained in my pocket until I saw the sheath.

All knives are shipped as of today. One customer requested a refund and it has been sent.

Edit: I wrote a few paragraphs but realized I was just buying into the hate and drama again. People will think what they will think. You can look at my work and history, and make your own judgement. If knocking me down to build yourself up is how you get your rocks off... then have at it. I won't be staying here to watch though.

If I need to be contacted to respond to the thread, my email is ian at hallhandmade dot com and cell number can be found on my website. Notifications are not working on BF as far as I'm aware.

I may edit in a final follow up to confirm all orders have been recieved or otherwise closed. We still have several days of transit before I can truly take my leave of this situation. Otherwise I am done here.
