Whelp, I can still climb a 5.9 after taking a break from climbing for 3-4 years (I climbed a little, but never regularly). I feel awesome.

I bet your forearms are gonna feel it tomorrow! I do a bit of climbing myself, mainly on an indoor wall. It's great exercise.

I love climbing, at my peak I could do almost any 5.11 you pointed to (indoor, about a 5.9 outdoor).
My forearms are going to feel it, but it shouldn't be too bad.

Well, sometimes you just wake up in the morning in the state of Missouri and want to drive to the state of Tennessee. Well, here ya go, about a 900 mile drive over the weekend. Left Friday night at 5:00PM and arrived at Lodge in Pittsburg, TN about 9:30 Saturday morning. I camped Friday night at a private campground near Clarksville, TN and Saturday night at Old stone Fort Archeological State Park not too far from Lodge. Your better off buying any Lodge cast iron in person. The quality (QC) varies in the "looks" department but it will all work. If you want one that is pretty see it in person first. I did make the side trip to Lynchburg...could not fit in the trip to Benton's. Had some possible weather coming in Saturday in the higher elevations and I didn't want to risk it...had to be home Sunday. Here ya go, pics of Lodge and Pittsburg TN...

I seriously am jealous as hell! But would a phone call would have killed you?! I'd have split the drive with you!!! :P

That does look cool.

The question is, does Guyon have one of these? And if he doesn't, why not?

I think his is made out of Ti.

lol, I was gonna say he has 3 of them.. one SS and two Ti, one user and one to put away.. and he has a giant cake pan for it to nest in... and a special backpack for the whole rig. :D

I like some of Metallica's more recent stuff but but it's defiantly not the same. It's difficult when a band has been around that long with such a huge influence and fan base. It's very difficult to stay true to your original sound while still growing and evolving as a band. You either keep churning out stuff that sounds exactly the same and get criticized for being stagnant or you try to stay relevant and get called a sellout or something. There's a very fine line in the middle but I'm not aware of any band that's been able to walk it for 30 years. Not to mention the dudes are 50 freaking years old.

Rush? Slayer..? I saw ZZ Top at a Christmas party this year and they definitely brought it.. not sure if they count, because they haven't had an album in years, supposed to be a new one soon though. But definitely Rush..

I like my cast-iron. Let me say that again.....like. I don't think I would drive 900 miles for cookware. But I'd drive anywhere for sharpened steel. :D

no, i get WHY adding weight is good

but i can't do that if i want to trailer it with my current vehicle

imagine all the ladies (hello ladies!) that come calling for gardening help when you have a mini-backhoe

hell, almost the city people wanna try my regular riding lawn mower. "sure, you can mow my lawn"

filling the tires with mineral oil ;) now that can't go wrong ;)

they should just sell no flats and be done with it

get the 2-part spray foam kit and fill them - then you'll have no-flats?
how cheap can you get mineral oil?
I can buy washer fluid by the 55 gallon drum - and then use the empty drum as a burn barrel. :)

Since I keep having the ad for it pop up, anybody have an opinion on WorkSharp's Field Sharpener? I've seen it at one of my local toy stores a while ago and took a good look at it. Intriguing, to say the least.
It's a nice tool for the $$, IMO.
One thing worth remembering is that canister stoves become less efficient in colder conditions or as fuel is consumed. In both cases pressure drops and boil times go up. It's one of the reasons that high-altitude climbers often use a heat conductor for the canister even though manufacturers do not recommend it (for obvious reasons).

Good link. Thanks.
You should be good with a canister stove. Just warm up the canister in your jacket for a bit before you cook. If you'll just be heating water or soup etc., you can't beat a Jetboil.
I like my Jetboil. The company is right here in the Granite State, so you know they are quality ;)!

Definitely Rush. Since '74, so...40 years and still kickin' it. And NO recycling. Every album is new songs.

I don't really listen to Rush. And I'm not saying they suck but they don't hold a candle to Metallica. Don't really listen to Slayer either. And ZZ top is classic but not really in the same class as Metallica either.

Took the glow plug thing out of the Tec-S3 and had it replaced with Tritium. I like it a lot better with the tritium in it. Its also brighter than i expected. I kept hearing its not as bright as people say, so i wasnt expecting much to avoid being disappointing... but really its plenty bright enough. Even in day light i can see a green tint to it, and in the dark i can see the thing over 30 feet away in pitch black.

Also got a few new beads. Willydigger made me a "Baby Villain" which as you can see is mighty small. the squares on the scrabble board are 3/4". To the left and behind the Baby Villain is 2006 Emerson skull beads and to the right is a normal sized villain for size comparison. Both the 2 villains in the front are made out of copper ore acrylic. My favorite acrylic so far. Its hard to photograph it and get all the color in it, but it has silver in it that really looks great in the right lights.

He also made me a custom worldwood bead out of bocote, because i love bocote!! Here are some of my beads, some are still tied to knives and other gear but this is a good portion of them.

And here is one im waiting on now, this is a new model he just made called the sharp tooth "lockjaw" he also made another Lockjaw without sharp teeth. But this one here is MINE :) Its also in copper ore!!

Just took the dogs out for their "late night constitutional" and we have freezing rain... it's coming down as rain and freezing when it hits the ground. We get very much of it and I know someone who will NOT be driving to town in the morning.

Those are pretty awesome. Been looking at some tritium to hang off the back of my backpack.
