But with tree hunting like there gone and dun, isn't it good sportsmanship to cut down and release it for some other tree hunter to stalk?

Yeah, otherwise it's just cutting logs into a barrel.

(haha, you said "stalk" :p)

this was more like a mercy killing -- 7 old bull trees all locked together long enough they fell down and couldn't get back up.
this opens up some canopy and encourages the younger stuff to grow up stronger than if they were overshadowed by the big boys.

We just had a hell of a storm go through. Was wondering if we were going to get a tornado or not. I don't have a garage, or carport, so I always worry about getting hail damage. The wife and I drove our cars to the car wash, and parked in there, haha. I just filed for a work permit today, to start building an attached carport. I have to pay the $30 dollar fee for the permit, knowing it's going to be denied, because the town I live in requires a structure to be 7 feet off the property line. The carport will be 2 and a half feet from the line. After it gets denied, I have to pay $300 to get a variance approved. I then have to wait for that to get approved before I can start building, if it gets approved. Whether it does or not, it still costs me $300. When I talked to the building inspector, he said he's never seen one get denied, so I hope all goes well.
The drama continues, haha. So the building inspector shows up when I'm headed to the cabin, of course. No biggie really, he calls and lets me know it got denied, as we knew it would. Wife went and got the paper work yesterday, to file for the variance. Filled it all out, and she filed it today, with the $300. Turns out the board meets on the second Wednesday of the month. So, seems like that would be next Wednesday, great. Noooo, no. They have to put it in the local paper, which I also have to pay for. It has to be in the paper for a week before they can meet, and there's not enough time to make that happen in time for next Wednesday, so now I have to wait until the second Wednesday of next month. This town is such a joke. All I wanna do is build my carport, damn.

Isn't that the normal price or were you referring to their release?

Sorry to hear all that, Dubz. Cities can suck.

Anybody else get the urge to open up a meat packing plant? I would assume knives would be needed....

Fortunately there is a great meat market in my small town. And another great meat market that also slaughters local cows about 5 miles outside of town. So if y'all get desperate, just swing by.

Don’t know if this would appeal to anyone, but on their website Kershaw is selling a sprint run “random leek” that seems interesting. Hope it’s ok that I put this here.

It really isn't that big of a deal per se, but by the time I get the permit, we could have had
it built.

with my luck it would hail on the Monday before they met to approve it after spending the extra money. Luckily I can build ... destroy ... blow up whatever I get the urge to out here ... I am not that patient to get permission from others.

There was a guy down the street from me, that told the city to kiss his ass, that he wasn't paying for a work permit to build a garage, when he owned the land. So, he didn't, and built his garage, then later got fined. It's worth the extra money to me, to not have those headaches, it just sucks waiting.

I totally understand why you wouldn't build without the permit and have trouble down the road. I am just not sure I would play nice with others and the red tape. I've always lived in the country with no one very close it's kind of spoiled me I think.

Yeah, a large part of the problem is when you go to sell the property, you may be forced to bring it inline with code and/or approvals.
