By local do you mean Beckerheads from "near" (in quotation marks because I think the closest is Derek at about 2.3 hours away) here? Or?
We could host a pretty nice one I think, only problem would be getting people and food and the like up the mountain (since only atv's can make it up and it's pretty steep), and getting someone out in case of an emergency (nearest hospital is around 40 minutes away from the house, plus you would have to allow around 10 minutes to get them off the mountain). Other than that, it's a pretty nice place. We could probably fit about 8 people in the cabin if there was someone in every sleeping spot, plus tents and stuff outside. It's got a big fire pit, enough small trees to chop on for years, and there are quite a few trails around people could walk if they wanted. Another issue would be grumpy grandpa, and extremely active 83 year old who doesn't like visitors.
I'll keep working on dad, maybe I'll convince him that a gathering on the mountain would be fun.

Ordered the replacement housing for my Craftsman....ouch. Gonna see if I can bend the table back, though I might just make myself a new (homemade) one. For the cost of both items, I coulda almost bought a new grinder. Right at the end of the phone conversation (had to call as the website wasn't listing my 1 year old model ???) the lady asked me "how many do you want?" and I had to keep from laughing out loud. Seriously? I hope they are sending the right part....I guess I'll find out in a week or so.

Thanks brother, hell i dont mind cleaning it if your giving it away HAHA, actually that will give me one more use out of this acid i got sitting here. Was about to toss it out since im done "making" stuff until after the move. But I can clean the head all up and then etch it in ferric chloride. Make a cool little project. Thanks bud.

Still pretty far, but not too bad. If you're anywhere near Fredericksburg, know any good knife stores there? I'm gonna be there this weekend and I was looking to see if there were any good knife stores near there.

Same here...the trail hawk is def on my list of gets and projects. In fact it's kind of next but keeps getting pushed back due to random "scores" that I can't pass up lol. I'll get a Zon gift card from someone for my bday in June, if I get enough I'll grab an onion work sharp, if not a hawk it is!

That'd be sweet man. There was plenty of guns in TN so that could be an issue. Even an unofficial gathering could happen. I assure you all the folks I met were standup and very respectful and it didnt seem like it was just because it was Ethan's place.

Cool stuff, looks like a lot of cutting edge on that one. I like a lot of cutting edge.
Id like to go ahead and start the full sized Hex Hatchets now that im finished working on the Hex Hawks... They will have just a hair over 6" of cutting length... But i have to spend my money on moving to a new home away from all this nonsense.... Much more important.... But eventually.

Thanks 'Hoss! I have been making the majority of mine like that since I started. It ain't for everyone, but it really appealed to me to keep them rectangular. And why not put as many eyelets in as possible? I like to attach stuff, or attach it to stuff, so why run out of options? While I definitely appreciate the offer of the kydex and foam, I think it would be put to an even better use to go to someone that might be interested but doesn't have that stuff or the ability to get it.
You know I said at the beginning it would make a heck of a nice paddle. Turns out, I wasn't wrong...
Surprisingly, no, I Haven't tried to wear it as a neck knife yet. Just used the neck lanyard to hold it up so I could snap a pic. I will let you guys know how it goes when I do.

Thanks Julio. Having seen quite alot of your work in person, I feel absolutely confident that I have no desire to ever go into making kydex for a side business, and after drilling the 54 holes that were required for this thing, that only reaffirmed it for me.
Thanks man! I am really happy with how it turned out, and have a little bit of fine tuning to do before I get it finsihed up completely.

i got a SF shovel for my dad a couple years ago, they are really nice but i have yet to put it through a lot of use.
whenever i need a smaller shovel i use an old ww2 era entrencing tool. (dated 1945) one of the ones with the wood handle and folding head. those things just love to work.
