First time in 3 years I was able to get a bike ride in . Only 2.5 miles , but it's a good start . I feel better physically and mentally when I ride a bicycle. Stopped at the Gun club and pulled a couple of Bass out of the pond with my newest handline .
Awesome man.

I just drag a Basserino off the back of the canoe when in transit mode, then use what ever they are biting on when I/we/theys/those/thems/thys get to the fish killing grounds.

That bike looks like it was bought ,rode a half dozen times and put in the garage. I have the original dry rotted saddle and original Raleigh tires that still have the mold tits on them. It is the best unrestored Sports I have ever seen. Up until the 70's the middle class in England didn't have cars for the most part these Raleigh 3 speeds were transportation not toys they were advised as all steel and built to last

They certainly are serious not-too-hilly transportation.
We picked ours up off CL, but the head-tube lug had slipped. A local custom frame builder rebrazed it for us on the cheap, including primer. Pulled and re-pinned the head badge too, so it wouldn't get damaged. Its original Brooks saddle was still usable too. And it was REALLY tall.

A lot of Sturmey Archer hubs came with 18 tooth sprocket change it to a 20-21 tooth sprocket a $5 peice makes them a lot more versatile . That one came with a 20 tooth sprocket

HUH!
I actually have a new SA hub in a wheel rebuild that my dad gave me, tho I'm going to give it to my bike tech friend. I wonder if those are adjustable too. I like the concept of 3 gears, but never liked the feel. And paying the price of a derailleur and shifter just for three external gears hasn't seemed sensible either.

These days my main rides are single-speeds, but the latest rebuild got a shmancy White Industries ENO 2-sprocket (manual change) freewheel. The road bike in "the mountains" (hilly western Mass) has 1 front sprocket and 6 in the rear, which covers moooost terrain.

When I'm in riding shape a SA 3 speed with 20 tooth sprocket and 42-44 tooth crank is fine. Amazing the change you get by going 2 teeth up or down. I looked hard at the white industries 2 cog free wheel for my Surly Steamroller but went with a single cog. I have 2 single speeds Surly Steamroller and Electra loft . My Surly flatbar Cross-check is geared 1x9 I have 7 bikes before my feet got bad I was pretty serious rider

Ooh, Steamroller is a nice frame.
Mine current main bike is a (discontinued) IRO Rob Roy. I always coveted the ENO freewheel back when I was on a much tighter budget, rebuilding salvaged frames with used parts. This time I went for it, and it saved me the trouble of swapping out my dad's old front sprocket to get the right ratio. My dad aged out of single-speed and it came to me. Swapping over parts was an upgrade from my old repainted Panasonic Sport 1000, which was always a bit tall.

I'm a bullhorn rider, mostly.
Sucks about your feet and biking! Bike shoes surely can't help either, they're pretty lousy fit-wise. I used to ride with SPD sandles, but they were disco'd.

Surly Steamroller was my first good bike. I bought it used but I don't think it was ever ridden except on a trainer. For years I fixed up decent brand bike I bought at yard sales found in scrap etc. We moved to FL in the 80's our car promptly died , I got to work on a bike I put together from 2 bikes I pulled out of the trash. I was saving to build myself a Surly Long Haul Trucker in the mid 2000's when we were told they were closing the factory I worked at. We went through a couple of rough years after that. Shortly after getting the steamroller I was in a bike shop and they had a new old stock Long Haul Trucker frame in the color I was planning on building earlier after some discussion, wheeling and dealing even a little trading I had my Trucker the only thing different from my original planned bike is it's gear 2 x 10 instead of 3 x 8 at a reasonable price too! I bought a Surly flat bar Cross-Check the year they came out . That was about the time my feet started giving me issues. I searched for years for the Raleigh Sports in decent shape my size that they didn't think was made of gold. That one was worth the wait , it is the best unrestored Sports I have ever seen the original Brooks saddle was dry rotted but everything else is perfect I have the original Raleigh brand tires . I have an Electra Loft one nickel plated single speed/ coaster brake A 95 Univega mountain bike that I put 2 in wide slicks on drop bar and bar end shifters and I have a Bikes direct Gravity 29 plus . I have quite a bit of money in bikes just setting. It's frustrating to finally get the bikes I have wanted an now not be able to ride like I want

A lot of my problems are that with the foot problems I am hurting so much after working that I don't have anything left to do anything and it takes all weekend to recover . I have always been a big guy and put on weight from not being as active and stress . I am a maintenance plumber in a hospital so I spend a lot of time on my feet

oof, plumb, I hope the Raleigh gets you back in the saddle!

Univega made nice machines back in the day. We have one in the family on its 4th owner.

I got the two main bicycles tuned up early this spring, but then was wary of allergies and traffic, and then got covid last month. Now I'm REALLY wary about aerobic exercise, but am working up to it. I used to blast out 15mi hilly single-speed rides in under an hour several times a week. Now I'm afraid of my 5mi warm-up loop! Soon, tho. Must.

My bout with COVID was nothing, I've had worse colds I've had the Raleigh 5-6 years my 3 Surly's are my go to bikes with the Raleigh being my cruise around with the grandkids bike . If I had it to do over again I probably would skip the Univega the Electra and the 29 plus the really don't get much use when I was riding regularly

Whilst clearing room in the garage this spring, I was wheeling the old Schwinn cruiser back and forth with flat tires from years of non use. One day I planned to swap in new tubes to at least hold air in the tires, so I bought 4 new tubes for the cruiser and for my Canondale single speed. I stopped to think, "These tires & tubes were good when I parked them in the garage 17 years ago, they were not outside, they just might hold air still." They do! I rode the cruiser around in front of the house for 15-20 minutes just reacquainting myself with it. That was over a month ago, they are still full of air.

Back in '02 I was without a license until sometime in '05, so I had 3 different bikes to choose from. The cruiser, the single speed and a 15 speed Schwinn Probe mountain bike. I put that mountain bike on the train when it was time to go out to downtown L.A., I would ride it 11 miles to work and back many times. Now, it's out in a shed, still atop flat tires.
It's better having a license again. ;)
