How’s the job search going Dubz?
Waiting for a guy to call me back for a warehouse job. He acknowledged he got my application, says he's gonna call. I got some inside pull. Not bad pay, but twice the distance of my old job. With soaring gas prices, that'll suck. Always use it until I find something a bit closer though. Been seriously thinking about purchasing a motorcycle to ride in the nicer weather. Sure save a ton on gas.

If you don't mind a non-cruiser a KLR650 is a good commuter. The price ain't bad if you can find a used one.
Doesn't really have to be anything fast or fancy really. Mostly about the gas mileage. I had a chopped Honda 750 years ago, haha. Bought it at a garage sale for a song.

EDIT: Just looked up the bike you mentioned. That would certainly suffice. Have always wanted an enduro/dual sport.

Well hopefully you can find something close and not too shitty. Haha.
Wishing the best for you my man!

*Beckerhead jobs?.. Might be a good thread. Maybe we’ve done it before though. I don’t remember…

haha yeah, but the cost of the bike... and then the gear... and then the maintenance... and then the registration and insurance (cheapest parts). Doesn't actually save money overall. I mean... if you want a bike, get a bike! But unless your car gets 3mpg, I can't imagine you'd ever make up the difference.

Vik, that's insane!

Got part of the front-end disassembled on my little bike right now. Waiting for a tool-part to see if I can get the correct half of the fork apart without having to do full disassembly. The plan is to replace the fork springs (stiffer) and fresh oil.

I'll get a moped then dammit. :D

Cost is always a factor. To be honest, I'm not much of a motorcycle guy to begin with. Prices did get crazy fast.

I casually looked at dual purpose bikes for a year or more. First I was charmed by the TW200. I wanted to go see a Yamaha Tenere 700, but was told that those are 'unicorns', hard to find. I looked long and hard at the KLR650 and its "doohickey" dilemma. But, if I got a light weight, fun bike, it would probably be a KLX300. Water cooled, fuel injected, 6 speed transmission, built like an old school dirt bike, they look very handy! (Then, naturally I got a cafe bike.) 😁

I have always enjoyed bikes, quads, mopeds, etc.

I use a little XT250 to commute to the farm (about 20 miles round trip) a couple times a week.

It gets about 78 mpg, and the insurance is about 100 bucks a year. Gas is 6.25 per gallon now. The bike paid for itself over time.

It is still pretty dangerous though, and gear is important. People don't give riders much leeway.

Slightly modified for street:

Just got back from an 85.5 mile round trip ride out of town. I used a set of soft saddle bags to carry half a dozen reels back with me after they were loaded up with braid and monofilament top shots. This retro bike is really laid back in the engine tuning department, not a rev monster at all, but lots of low end and midrange power on tap. Mileage seems to be in the mid to upper forties, I don't really track that.

Summer is definitely knocking on the door, mid nineties today.

I love those Yamahas. Great bike man.

It's a 2001, I think.
Modified for the late, great, Hefty Lefty. Note the smaller front wheel.
It's a cute little street commuter - I just need to stiffen the front suspension so it doesn't dive under breaking and unweight the rear wheel, which leads to a rear skid. That's why the forks are apart right now. But these forks don't match the manual in a way that is somewhat problematic... research goals for today.

Recently I picked up a piece of furniture from my uncle who had just sold his house. He asked if I wanted a big ass knife. The answer is always yes.

BK5 for scale

I think it's an old SOG Tigershark. It looks like they're somewhat collectible, but this edge needs cleaned and the sheath shows a lot of drawing and storage wear.

I havent paid SOG much attention, but I'm digging this blade. I'm sure I'll find something fun to do with it.
