I'm completely disappointed in this group. The members on here seem to only deal with other members. If this is a closed group you should make it a closed group. Non-members are treated rudely and with disregard so why would someone want to become a member.

Are you referring to paid membership?
Do you have any examples? Because I have dealt with many "registered users" in the past, and will continue to do so as long as they seem trustworthy. I give no priority in my sales threads, the only stipulations I have ever had are during trades with new members.

I guess I would have to see the threads or posts that gave you issue to cause this post ...

I know some can be difficult or quick to correct new members ... but the majority of members are great to welcome and help new members .

Now if you came for only buying and selling knives with no intent to contribute to the forum in other ways ... yes some take that as offensive ...

I don't personally get offended ... but I do not buy or sell to people that don't contribute to the forums and are only here to buy or sell ... but that's just me.

So what kind of problems are you having? ... Maybe we can help you.

HiPlainsGrifter today on a knife , sold it to the guy that respi red 2 hrs after me. Never heard from him, and my email was posted. Happened 1 other time also. I did make 1 purchase on here. But 2 outta 3 times were bad experiences.

Every person has a right to sell to he sees safe. I would never hold it against someone.

If your a non paying member or without feedback you have a chance of scamming or causing issues.

Ive bought with and without membership... So if your saying this about one sale your sadly mistaken. You also have to do your due diligence and research and ask questions.

Heck you don't even have any posts out side of the sales threads. You don't even participate in our community.

well I can't speak for that member but my guess is that you are new with very little time or posts ... and people are picky about selling to new non-known people ... until they hang out awhile and contribute some.

There have been too many get ripped off or have lots of problems and lost knives and or money dealing with the wrong people.

I'm new to the knife game. Looking to get involved. However as with any new relationship it's how you get treated in the beginning that makes you decide if you're going to stick around or not LOL. Every member on here their feedback started at 0 just like mine. My suggestion would be if members are selling only to members that should list that way. Or the thing to do would be to make the group closed to where you can read only but to interact and send messages you pay a fee and join just like eHarmony LOL.

If you are going to mention members by name, it's polite to tag the member (@HiPlainsGrifter ) so they are aware:).

It isn't that you can't buy having zero feedback ... yes everyone started at zero ...

but it is more about get involved in the forums ... contribute to discussions and gain some time ... some trust ... some familiarity with other members and even friendships ...

then some will give you a chance and sell to you and you can start to build a good reputation and members see you're here to join the community from your love of knives and related items ...

and show you aren't just here to buy sell or flip knives ... if all you want to do is buy and sell there are many sites dedicated to just that ... this forum kind of offers that as a bonus to being part of the community ...

and it's for just this reason that most members shy away ... too many come on thinking they will just jump in and buy and sell and make money or get real great cheap deals ... well after you contribute some and get to know members then you have those chances ...

but to come in bad mouthing members isn'tgoing to get you far ... and I am not trying to be an ass ... I am genuinely trying to help you understand Blade Forums and how and why many members do what we do ...

and the selling is closed ... you must have a Gold or higher membership to list items for sale or trade ... but non paying members can buy ... it's just a matter of whether a member will take that chance selling to a non paying and so far ... non contributing member ... that's part of the "new" relationship ...

I hope you will stick around and share some of your oersonal experiences and what knives you like/dislike ... what knives you own/or might be interested.

It truely is a great place with a vast amount of knowledge if you are willing to join in ... good luck.

Some have certain strict criteria as to who they will sell to, but it is a minority and not the forum as a whole. After all we all were new at on time. I have no problem dealing with new members, though I prefer them to be more than members of a day or 2. The ads are open to the internet and I am cautious of someone that may have just come on to scam me. $ amount also plays a part-more likely to sell a fresh member a $100 knife than a $800 one. All that said the longer you are here and the more feedback and participation you exhibit will result in more credibility as both a buyer and seller. The more we know of you the more confidence we are going to have in the transaction-That is only logical.
Tip- be sure to read the ad fully. An I'll take it in the thread may not be what is asked for or required to make your claim. Some ask for direct contact or post in thread and direct contact. In the end though they can sell to whomever they choice. It would be ridiculous to sell to someone you felt you were going to have a problem with, no matter how long their membership(or membership level) has been.

There are over 300,000 members here. If just 1% have a paid membership, that's over 3,000 different people. It's quite possible that it's more than that.
While your experience so far has been unfortunate and probably annoying, you have to remember that you've only experienced and interacted with a tiny sliver of the forum and it's members. I don't say this to take anything away from your experiences so far, just pointing out that it may be a little to soon to judge the community as a whole.

Stick around, chat with people, share what knives you like and your opinions and things will fall into place.

Yup. Make friends by chatting about knives, sharpening, and miscellaneous stuff in other forums. Read about some of the reasons people don’t rush into selling to new members.

Keep trying to make deals and eventually you will have credibility (or not).

Adjust your expectations. These forums have been going on a long time, so the formula must work more often than not—to an extent the sales are self-policing.

To this knife game????we are just a bunch of guys that are passionate about knives, there are some great deals to be had on the exchange....we just don't care for people who come here to buy knives and turn around and try to gouge others(although nothing illegal, it's just disrespectful of the guys that are passionate)seems that this shouldn't need explaining

You've been a member for a little over 4 months with 11 posts (11 thread interactions/contributions) but you're disappointed with our "group?" Might want to adjust your expectations a tad. Stick around and let people get to know you a little bit before painting with such a broad brush. You have the right to feel however you want about individual members or BF as a whole but "we" also have the right to assume you're just another ship passing in the night. A shot across our collective bow so early in your tenure here isn't likely to do much but confirm existing doubts and hesitations about wanting to deal with you in the future. Your enthusiasm for knives is shared around here. Keep that in mind moving forward and you'll eventually be a valued and trusted BF member. Wish you all the best.

Sellers can sell to who they want, for whatever reason. It's within the rules. With that being said, if you have no posts and no feedback, some sellers will be cautious about you. Especially if your few posts are only in the classifieds section. Contribute to the many threads here, introduce yourself, post some pictures of the knives you own and give us your personal experience with them. Once you become personable, then you'll have a better chance in the classifieds. I think this is mostly due to newbies in the past, who only come here to sell or rip people off and don't participate in any other areas of the forum.

Welcome to the forum by the way.

Your relatively new and not contributing outside the exchange. People are cautious with newer members. Nothing wrong with protecting themselves. You are a member, you don't have to have a paid membership. Welcome to the forums, sitback, relax, enjoy the forums, participate in the discussions

As a non member I've had no issues buying from the exchange.

I don't buy much there because most of it is US only so it's an extra bar to meet to grab a hot time. If 6 people are jostling to get the item there's not much of a chance that the seller will chose the hardest person to ship too.

My first couple of attempts to buy from the exchange went the same way (I would probably be much more cash liquid if it had stayed that way) but then, one of the guys I had been interacting with in a sub-forum here posted for sale and we did a deal, and another. In the time since I have said "I will take it" on multiple knives worth $100s US that have been on the way to be before I have even made payment. As others note, this is not eBay or Amazon or in fact a Marketplace, it is essentially and enthusiast's forum that has a For Sale area. Yes there are some that will only be here for the buy/sell aspects of the forum but as a result you can strike the problems you have seem. Remember, you are not dealing with businesses here generally, you are dealing with an individual selling their personal property, a loss to them is felt harder than a loss to a business so they will exercise whatever caution it is that makes them feel most comfortable, this is their right to do so.

Get "known" just a little outside the exchange and the "world" does open up to you a bit more.
